Careful running the tank down low. You can clog your fuel filter with the guck that is in the bottom of your tank. It's worth having an extra gas filter along with you. Sorry to hear about your clutch troubles. What a pain. (Also when you replace the gas filter you need something to keep the gas from flowing out the tubes. Use an old pencil. They are the right diameter and do the job. Unhook the end going toward the engine first, put the pencil in that. Use one of the caps from the new gas filter to block the end of the old gas filter. Then do a fast change of the new for the old, leaving the cap on the new filter which goes toward the engine. Then pull that cap, and the pencil and rejoin the hose on the engine side. Done! Takes about 15 minutes depending on how hard it is to get the screws out of for letting the skid pan down on that side and putting them back.

The first thing you should pack when you drive any car anywhere is a premium road side assist package from your state body. NRMA, RAA, RACQ, RACV... which ever applies. I drive old cars... guess how I know. Love your videos guys. Just watching how you deal with things is a pleasure and seeing the places your going makes me want to get back on the road instead of the 8- 5 work I'm doing.

Your clutch is always engaged when driving! it disengages to change gears. Obviously your clutch is slipping which means at high revs it'll start losing power.

Thank god for premium road side assist, an absolute must have! A few years ago I broke down in Byron Bay and had to get towed all the way back to Adelaide. They covered everything including a weeks accommodation and my flights back home 🚌 Loving your videos, giving us so much inspiration for our current van build!

Don't let fear stop you. Just be prepared. Take some useful spare parts with you, so that if you do break down, even if you don't know how to fix, someone who stops to help will. The aussie way. I've travelled for years all over oz. on my own (female) and never had a problem, although I do listen to my instincts a lot.

Hey, guys, my son is about to (well, maybe about to...) embark on some short term van life from Perth, wants to head over to Tassie with his best mate. If you want to swap tips and stories for a park, hot shower, toilet, home cooked meal and some doggie cuddles in the northern suburbs of Perth as you pass through, let me know. The doggie cuddles are non-negotiable if you take us up on the shower, toilet and meal offer, lol, they love new people. Apparently my son's best mate also has an uncle who is a kind and generous mechanic, lol. He's currently helping them decide if the van they are thinking of buying is worth it.
