We test Kendas which are pricey but last a long time, vs lionhearts which are super cheap to not only see which last longer, but the cost per lap.

i think that you have to spray the tires with water while you are drifting if you want them to last longer... also try spraying less water or put a bigger tank maybe.. so you can spray while you drift for however long you want

I have a Ford 7.3L Turbo diesel E450 Cutaway with a box on the frame behind the cab. I had purchased numerous Nexan "LT series" tires for my truck (from Sams club) and had issues with tires bubbling on the sidewall.Sams even got to the point with me that they were asking what I was doing with the truck? One day about 2 years ago I got fed up and bought (4) Lionheart LT series 225/75/R16 tires for my truck rear duallys with aggressive all weather tread off of Ebay and said F-it... cant be any worse than what keeps on failing... Not 1 bubble in my Lionheart tires and my truck is always loaded heavy. I will never buy Nexan again. Just too many reoccuring issues... PLUS Sams always bitched about installing duallys on my truck.I went out and bought an older used coats tire machine for $600 cash and do it myself. Im tired of kissin asses and waiting all afternoon long in a waiting room seeing tire techs playin on their phones and "claiming" they are busy beyond belief when the garage is clearly empty. Its what America has been reduced to.... L-A-Z-Y. Has anyone ever felt like this ?

@Tanner731
@Tanner731 6 жыл бұрын
why would they make tires that lasted longer for drifting? think about it, the more tires you go through the more tires you'll buy from them. also all their R&D in drifting is going to come from FD where they want softer more grippy tires than your average joe doin skids on the weekend. zestino was teasing a "practice" compound for awhile that supposedly lasted pretty long but I havent been able to find anything more about those tires.

i just had a track day with my LS 240sx, makes 365whp. running a 235/40r18 Zestino Gredge 240 treadwear at 30 psi. i got 16 laps that day on them, and i had 2-3 laps on them from a previous day. i was running on a smaller track, the video is the latest one on my channel if you wanted to have a look for comparison. the tires held lots of grip right up to the end where i spun out. I've got a couple sets of the zestino acrova to try as well, which is supposed to last even longer with similar grip. We get these tires in canada for about $120 plus shipping (probably cheaper in the states) The other tire i'm going to test is the Zenna Argus UHB. i ran them on a previous car, same size and was getting upwards of 25 laps no problem (On a different track layout though) I appreciate what your doing with the technical analysis on tires! I've been gathering my own data to finally figure out which tire reigns supreme!

I ran a set of Sentury tires 225/40r18 on my Z vs a set of Kenda's on different days. The Kenda's faaaaar out performed the Sentury's. I averaged about 20 laps on the Kenda's on a 80 degree day, vs 12 on a 50 degree day and a patchy wet-dry track. Sentury's can be bought at discount for about $55 a tire, Kenda I can get between 70-80. And like you saw, you can safely run kenda's to the literal end of their life without causing additional damage.

Curtis Chornohos for ages I’ve seen other people run directional tires backwards and I’ve done it myself with the federals. But with the better tires like kendas and zestinos I have not. Haven’t had the need when I’m getting 15-20 laps out of a pair. It might be worth a try with the acrovas though.

Hi, I have tried out this myselv, with other brands, and spesifications.. I have found that tire with higher load index holds longer, as in my case, I do most burnouts in my car, for now, and I work at a tire dealer, so I get free used tires, I started with a good threaded 195/65r15, it hold a burnout for 2 minutts before poping, and that was with wheel speed above 100mph att all times.. tried with 195/70r15 wiitch is a tire for bigger vehicles, like delivery truck etc, they lasted for almost 5 minutts on the same skid pad, the same day and aprox the same speed

Worst tyre I experienced so far TrackMax TX2. Cheap to buy, easy to fit without even using levers, compound is soft and that's the biggest mistake China made, just doing casual 8's and 180's for few minutes ruined the tires. Glad I got them half price compared to what they sell to the public. China rubber should be only hard compound. Low grip + hard wearing = win

I would do another test at osw IMO. Only reason i say that is because each run was different with the use of the hand brake. Like when you noticed that you would hold the hand brake to long and flate spot the tire. The test would be alot better if your running the skid pad and see how the tread would wear thru each session. Just my 2 cents.

If you add in time/cost for mounting tires and swapping them, the Kendas prove a little bit better value as you have less labor time/cost into running them. Also if you end up with timed run groups and you are able to just cord a set of kendas over the full session, you would only get 75% of the session before you would have to swap tires or sit out with the lionhearts.

Something that you're not taking into account is the amount of time spent changing tires at an event, as well as the added damaged caused by the tire coming apart. The Kenda mostly stays together, thus, no damage. Time is money, also.

Dude I have also have hd great success on Kendas I think they are a great tyre for drifting just an idea have you tried running them backwards to see if that makes a difference!? Apparently directional tyres run much colder in reverse not sure if it’s a myth but that’s how I run them and they last ages!

An old school Japanese driver told me that about 15 years ago, they draw air into the channels in the tire. Definitely works a treat. And go the federal 595. Get twice as long as a cheap tyre.
