Summary: Glycine is made in the body (3 g/day). You also eat around 3 g per day. Some people cannot make it as much as they need it. We need 10 - 60 g per day. It's hard to get it from the diet today. Benefits: 1. Helps with sleep, anxiety 2. Calms gut inflammation 3. Helps with muscle and joint health 4. Fights premature ageing 5. Fights inflammation 6. Building block for collagen Dietary sources (good to best): Eggs, seafood, meat, bone broth, skin of any animal.

For anyone like me who has trouble eating the connective tissue, try slow cooking it for several hours (crock pot, stovetop low simmer, in the oven on the "warm" setting overnight, etc). The meat is fall-apart tender, and the grissle renders down into a liquid.

Yes excellent advice! You can save a bunch of the tougher glycine bit scraps in the freezer cook them down softer and then blend them with good blender into a broth. Ladies you want the best anti aging cream just eat this type of stuff plus bone marrow broth. I’ve seen changes in a year at 50. I’ve started putting it in my husbands food and watching his skin change! Making bone broth this morning! So easy with InstantPot.

I started taking glycine powder a few weeks ago for inflammation and all that other stuff you mentioned. I ruined my gut health so bad from being addicted to carbs/sugar over 50 years. I have severe food allergies because of it and now I can only eat ground beef and suet with salt. I have to take a lot of supplements for digestive healing and I can't eat anything else right now or I get itching, hives, and histamine reactions. Seven months ago I started taking Mega Sporebiotic. After I was on it for a couple weeks, I stopped getting leg cramps at night and I was able to maintain my weight instead of losing too much. (I'm 5'4'' 108 pounds) Then in February I added Mega IgG2000. I get them from Nutrition with Judy. I've also had reactions to many supplements so I have to go slow and add each new thing one at a time. I also have probiotics I got from Nutrition with Judy but I had to stop for a while to see if it was the cause of some reactions I had. I can't even take digestive enzymes because of pork allergy. I take no antihistamines now and at one time I was taking 10-12 benadryl a day. That was a hard thing to come off of. I believe meat heals and I hope others will be helped with the carnivore diet and good health practitioners like Dr. Berry and Judy Cho.

One amazing thing about brone broth soup, which Koreans make from pig spines, is that after you've eaten as much meat as you can pick off the bones, if it's only you eating the soup, you can put the bones back in the water. Then you boil them again to get more meat off of them and whatever else you can from the bones. Then put the soup in the fridge. And, the next day, all of fat from the bones will be congealed, and you'll have bone fat gelatin, which you can eat as is, which is amazing. Or you can heat up the soup and let the fat melt.

@@mreese8764 @Jill Moore Exactly. There are several electrolyte powders available that specifically formulate potassium citrate, magnesium citrate and calcium lactate. These powders dissolve quickly in hot water, and much more slowly in cold water. I make my own electrolytes powder from the individual ingredients and then add citric acid, via real lemon juice, and ice. As a alpha-GAL carnivore, I find that the additional soluble calcium helps to bind oxalates for elimination. Sipping on a liter of this electrolytes water throughout the day really helps mitigate my oxalates problems. However, like Jill, I avoid glycine supplementation for this same reason.

@@Timothy-McNulty Thanks you for the detailed info. I would be careful will calcium. Supplementation of more than one gramm per day seems to create cardiac problems. If you take vitamin d3 without K2 I would expect the problems to be multiplied as the vitamin d3 would increase calcium absorption up to 20 fold and without K2 the calcium would go everywhere into your body, leading arterial calcification and else. The vitamin K2 directs calcium into the bones and out of other tissues.

@Timothy-McNulty Жыл бұрын
@@mreese8764 All good points that I'm very aware. I limit my calcium supplementation to 400mg and do also supplement with Vit-K2 while my Vit-D3 supplementation is minimal. Because I was a vegetarian for 20 years, 5 of which were strict vegan, I developed a heavy burden of oxalates. The same oxalate dumping issues effect many individuals when attempting to go carnivore. Detoxing and dumping a decades long oxalate buildup can take 10 years, or more, even when following a low or approaching zero oxalate intake in one's diet. For the first year or so I drank a cup of black tea with about 20 mg oxalates to slow down the oxalate dumping so I could avoid the dumping side-effects. But switching from tea to decaf coffee and the small amount of calcium seems to work well for me. But everyone is different.

Glycine is not an essential amino acid, but a conditionally essential amino acid. Btw, it's my favourite amino acid along with Taurine, which is also conditionally essential . I love these two for their "non-protein metabolic funcs" which runs into hundreds ! They are among the most abundant amino acids along with glutamine. Glycine can be derived de novo from Serine, threonine or even choline, but not in therapeutic amounts. I take 3gms of Glycine free form daily, excellent for liver, gut, kidneys, brain, blood vessels, glucose metabolism, cytokine regulation, heme synthesis, methylation support, bile acid conjugation & synthesis, lipid metabolism, nerve repair and as an inhibitory neurotransmitter for relaxing the central nervous system & balancing excess glutamate. Also the key substrate for glutathione GSH synthesis. Also nearly one third collagen is Glycine , hence critical for structural support & collagen synthesis. If I was on a tight budget and could afford only one amino acid supp....it would be Glycine with the next being EAAs (essential aminos ) & Taurine.

"Non-Essential" means that it's so important that the body creates it from other aminoacids. For me, that's actually a recent insight. I supplement with a pretty small dose of NAC and Glycine. Mostly for supporting the Glutathion production. NAC 1 g/day Glycine 2 g/day I think the best way to get more Glycine is from Collagen. Hydrolized Collagen, if as supplement. Research on Glutathion has used up to 10 g of NAC and Glutathion. So my dose is small, perhaps too small. It would be interesting to know the effect of more reasonable doses, instead of just maximize them to get robust results in the research.
@farookjahoor4977
@farookjahoor4977 Жыл бұрын
You are absolutely correct. For those of us in the field of clinical nutrition and intermediary metabolism, the word "Dietary" MUST always precede every non-essential amino acid because it means that in the absence of this amino acid in the diet, the body is capable of synthesizing it de novo for short term survival. However, in reality these so called "dietary non-essential" are really so "essential" for good health and survival that we cannot rely solely on dietary supply. Hence, we evolved pathways for their de novo synthesis from other amino acids and intermediate metabolites of glucose and lipids.

I was coming off of 18 months of being a vegan and I was really depleted in nutrients and he said he wanted me eating lots of lamb as well as liver (which I just absolutely could not do because it tasted disgusting)… but lamb is delicious and he said that it is the most nutrient dense red meat that there is. Lamb chops continue to be my absolute favorite!

@@aspiringalchemist8398 To get started with liver, I recommend chicken livers as part of tasty recipies. One of my favs: Italian Liver and Onions. Start with cooking bacon, then saute onion slices in the bacon grease, both sides. Meanwhile dice cooked bacon. Whith 2 min left on onions, cut large chx livers in 1/2, and sear ~1m on all 3 sides. Plate onions, then livers on top. Grate plenty of parmesan on top, sprinkle bacon bits, and top with chopped italian parsley. Another (more recent) fantastic recipe comes from David Tannis' One Good Dish: chx livers spiced with salt and garam masala, seared on all 3 sides, and then on top a salad (frisee + ...) French bistro style.

I read that Glycine is an excellent substitute for sugar on a Carnivore diet. It will not spike insulin which is a major issue of sugars.... I use 1\2 a teaspoon in my coffee and it equals 1 teaspoon of sugar in terms of sweetness. And it's not bitter like the fake sugars that you mentioned. It really tastes like the real thing and it's extremely healthy! - BTW, if you add NAC to glycine (marketed as 'Glynac') you will increase glutathione levels to youthful levels; bringing a whole host of anti-aging benefits to your life...Just google 'glynac studies' (very recent). Ooh...I was doing it for flavour but it seems a good idea anyway : nothing gets wasted in my house. If there are tough or grisly bits (not fond of the texture of crunchy chewy sinew etc) it all gets bagged for the next bone broth. And I simmer until all the tendons & sinew are disolved - can take longer than a day - but the chicken and pork skin get extra crisped before it goes in the pot - usually in a pan with butter - to give that rich cooked meat flavour.
