Not only did she break the world record, she did so AFTER she failed to make to Olympic team. To come back and break one of the highest coveted records in track and field is nothing short of phenomenal and speaks to her champion mindset. Her perfection physically and technically is surpassed only by her mentality. You can also see how much she is respected from the love she received from her competitors. Congratulations Ms. Harrison!!!! You are the greatest!

To break a world record in track and field is a great achievement and very rarely done, especially when the record was 28 years old and was set by east European athlete in the 1980s, when the doping was the norm there. It is much harder to achieve than to win an Olympic gold. There are many times more Olympic gold medalist than world record holders. I don't recall any other occurrence of an athlete, from the US or any other country, broke the world record one month before the Olympics but not allowed to compete in the games. I think this is unprecedented. If the US doesn't send her to the Olympics, I think the IOC should make a special invitation to invite her to compete as an individual athlete. Without her, this year's Olympic women's 100m hurdle champion will forever have an asterisk next to it.

KoolHandDuke I agree!!! Also, i really wish she ran this hard last week when Nelvis got her at the end, because in that thin air, I think she could’ve had the world record that day! I’m so proud Keni kept it together. When she smoke Sally Pearson in the rounds, I felt her confidence was high, and when she led in the final, I knew it was over at the first hurdle. Our girl is READY NOW!!!
@koolhandduke40876 жыл бұрын
stevie586--Yes, I was so happy Keni was able to get revenge on Sally Pearson, effectively eliminating her from the competition in that heat. One correction though, this video is of Keni beating the eventual Rio trio. They had not won their Olympic medals yet. This competition was immediately after the US trials but before the Rio games. But like you said, "Our girl is READY NOW!!" I still want to see Brianna Rollins though.
@stevie5866 жыл бұрын
KoolHandDuke YES!!! The truth, is, Keni is easily shaken by any worthy opponent, and especially by Sally! However, Sally is shaken by Keni also, because she knows she’s only stronger than Keni mentally, and when the race on the beginning is so close it shakes Keni! Once Keni clears at least two hurdles with Sally to her rear, she gains confidence, and it seems Sally surrenders! I wanna see Keni get the darn credit she deserves...especially given she is a modest champion and not rude to other ladies. She deserves more gold and I’m sure she has tons of confidence now! BTW, I wanna see her improve her 100M speed to at least suv 11 now. If she can do that, she will be the best hurdler ever. The fact she runs 11.3ish 100M and is faster than Gail Devers says much!

@shotput87 жыл бұрын
You are right. I should have said it was after the Trials. They don't have any exceptions for world record holders.
@MrGreenelight6 жыл бұрын
Record holders are not exempt from Olympic trials. They too must make the mark at the test/trail tryouts to make the team. If they gave record holders a free pass to the Olympics, Bruce Jenner would still be eligible. He/she broke a world record in the decathlon back in 1976. There is no wildcard, just a one time chance to make the team each Olympic trail. The top three goes, everyone else goes home to watch the games of TV.
@stonew19276 жыл бұрын
That's silly. She set the world record two weeks after the Olympic trials, and she had some of the fastest times in the world before the trials. Anyone can have a bad meet. The US Track and Field Olympic committee should take into account athlete's performances throughout the season, much like the US Olympic Figure Skating committee does. There, they take into account the top three finishes at qualifying event, but those results aren't final. The committee has the discretion to name whoever they see fit to go to the games, and they often to make exceptions.
