Another big reason of why the art has changed is that the performance and recording itself has changed alot also.. back in the day mcees took pride in learning their versus so that they could spit it on the spot, or go in the studio and "one take" the verse etc.. nowdays dudes pride themselves on not writing using vocal effects and utilizing"punch ins" etc.. punching in is cool and can be used effectively to capture something in the moment.. but tbh it has been overused, and made people who never practiced reciting verses or breathing control b4, think that they can really rap.. which isn't the case.. Dudes just put more time into the craft back then (when originality and lyricism reigned supreme) not just autotune and "punch ins" which is commonly used today

Older heads always made fun of Kendrick because of the sounds, and the different voices. But, in reality, it’s genius. That animation is what allows Kendrick to get away with rapping a million bars but still be catchy. 8 years olds on their parents IG asking for Euphoria lol. Why? Because of the “shoooo shoooooo BEE BEE BEE BEE!” Lol then even the bars themselves are melodic without being sung… “I hate when a Raaaaa-pper talk about guuuuuns, then somebody diiiiies, they turn into Nuuuuns. Like pray-for-my-city, they fakin’ for liiiiikes and digital huuuuugs.” He uses himself as an instrument, he uses his cadence as his melody, rather than trying to sing-rap like everybody else who’s moving units.
