fredrickbrown Do you people think your leaders are naturally rich and they simply don't share the money? 😄 It's like we don't understand that a nations money comes from somewhere. What should they spend the money on, just say it or come up with a financial plan and let's see how it works out. Things aren't so simple Corruption exists and should be addressed, but sometimes it feels like some of you think african leaders just need to share their money and every african will be rich 😄 If you take $80 billion (which is about the average GDP of the top african economies) and divide by something like 60 million people, each person will only get $1333. That's about a months pay for most people in african countries. The thing is those african countries can't even give that amount because they actually have that money. GDP is simply how much you produce. The governments have much less than that

Your mom is right, challenging African Presidents is generally deadly. I will speak for Ug because I am a Ugandan who has witnessed what happens when anyone dares to criticize Museveni. You can lose anything between your job or business to life. That said, I think Ruto tried to pull a Museveni tactic on the wrong group of people. Kenyan politics is quite more advanced than ours. Even though they still have other issues, at least Kenyans have seen Presidents come and go peacefully unlike Ugandans. Bad governance remains the major factor that inhibits African countries from benefiting from their God-given resources. I am hopeful that the younger generation will unite and fight for the much-needed positive change so that we can be truly proud of Africa. Kenya has showed us an example! Kudos Gen Z Kenyans!

I've seen people try to blame the IMF for this whole problem. The issue isn't with the IMF. The problem is accountability in government spending in Kenya. They already previously took out a loan, which was later on spent poorly. It's likely a lot of money was stolen. So the IMF is saying they need to come up with a plan to have more fiscal responsibility in order to get another loan. Instead of cutting the budget and their paychecks, the President went to raise taxes on the people FIRST! No wonder they don't trust him...

Disagree the IMF is a PREDATORY loan organization and it does the same damage throughout the world to developing countries. IMF usually suggest devaluing local currency, more foreign imports, interferance with any local manufacturing, then forced more interest on tourism which usually lead to foreigners controlling the economic and paying low wages which is further exploitation. RESEARCH several countries especially the Caribbean how IMF destroyed the local economic and crippled progress.

Kenganda you give Ruto too much pass, Ruto was the deputy president in previous government and fully advocated for the borrowing so going in to the government was not like a stranger walking in, secondly the problem is the campaign he ran when vying, its was too much lies, some people knew it others fell for it and beside his political record was there for everyone to see so nothing should be surprising here. That finance bill was about budgeting corruption, the elite can continue to live lavishly and the poor starve to fund it.

Great commentary! It made me sad for a few minutes that it came over me. Because there is only one criteria for a people that are in recovery and healing in all areas…..that is in the best interest of the people that favors the peoples best quality’s, that reduces the negative impacts of their deficits and fortifies them where they have lack. No government or “partners” anywhere can advise AfriKAN peoples on proper governance. But it seems that the people in authority may need a solidified understanding of what it means to PRIORITIZE THE SPECIFIC NEEDS OF THE PEOPLE. It saddens me because we would have thought that this was common knowledge but we see that we continue to use protocols that are not in our interests. Incredible. Solute for the youth! 🫶🏾🫶🏾💡💫💫💫💫

I think some of these people complain too much and probably dont understand how a nation works. Your country can't do anything without taxes. Some are saying the issue is what the taxes are used for but I feel like even if it was used 100% properly they would still complain. And that's simply because a lot of people naturally feel robbed when they're taxed. But if you live in a country and want it to function it's what you must do. Otherwise you can't go around complaining about the bad roads or bad this bad that. What money are they going to use to fix it? You don't want to pay the money to contribute to your country, but still complain about the issues. Messing up your country because of your emotions doesn't do anyone any good. There could be a compromise on what you tax and how much you tax, but the taxing in most cases must happen. If not then there's no need to blame the government because they don't get money from heaven

Your mother is correct. It may be beneficial for you to research further about Kenya's debt to China, which amounts to $6 billion. There are also other sources contributing to Kenya's debt. The United States is proposing to construct a new military base in Kenya, similar to what they did in Niger. Contrary to popular belief, having a US military base in a country does not always result in financial benefits, as seen in the case of Niger. It's important to understand the implications of taking on debt from various countries and to carefully consider the consequences of hosting foreign military bases. Ruto sent Kenyan military to Haiti, expanded ministries, purchased expensive cars for MP's, increase the budget of the first lady, and made over 16 overseas trips, with a significant portion of spending allocated to travel expenses. This excessive focus on travelling and lavish spending raises concerns about his suitability for the role. Ruto watch is about $60.000 dollars. Is he a business man? Ruto is serving America and the West.He has to go.

U cutting the budget or trimming it means losing jobs for those departments trimmed at. The Finance bill wasn' communicated thoroughly to the Kenyan Population to understand what the increase of taxes can provide for a better standard off living for all Kenyans. Go to Canada, Norway, Sweden and see how much taxes they pay to enjoy the great standard of living they got in those nations. Ruto must stay he was in a right direction for Kenya it's the people arround him that fails to get the population aware on the needed progress to move on. Kenya under Kenyatta was looting so much and controlled the population through intimidations and threaths afraid of the Kenyatta's leadership the Kenyan Population wasn't coming out to express their views on their taxes spent. When Ruto was elected the voters wanted change to see more Kenyans be able to be part off my kenyan Economy and politics fully. Ruto was chosen as that guy to bring that change and improve Kenya's democratic systems and to cut off the many corrupt systems in place inherited from the Kenyatta government poor leadership style. The Finance Bill if it where communicated fairly to the population and they understood what it meant for Kenya I am sure they will have settled with it agreeing to get it going yet together with the state and public organizations finding better alternatives to replace the high cost off living. I believe the bill was to create jobs as well unlike the trimming off the budget wholly that takes jobs away. Which is better paying more taxes and more jobs created and u still can afford to pay for the basics. The rising cost off living is everywhere in the world with proper government programs the affordability off food, clothing and shelter can be settled through food banks, Government tax benefits Climate change benefits, Grocery rebates and Goods service taxes. This will put a little bit money on Kenyans after their taxes are done quarterly payments to all Kenyans to help a bit cope with the basics. Kenya just have to understand on how to get the taxes on Goods Service Tax, Provincial county Sales tax. The provinces or county with more resources paying more taxes to look after the county population that doesn't have lots off resources. The county that have less resources don't pay PST but only pay GST taxes each time they buy anything. Grocery rebates assisting everyone quarterly just a minimal. If Ruto was Increasing the taxes along this line in creating jobs and introducing the taxes I have explained it would have worked out for Kenya. Miscommunication got the population all divided confused about the rising cost off food and the basics and they never understood the positive side off the Finance bill that would have been backed by the associated taxes on quarterly payments to Kenyans on the needed new minimal GST, PST, grocery rebates, climate change rebates to accomodate the Finance bill increase. Increasing taxes backed by working programs giving back works hand in hand also the standard off living becomes affordable a bit and keeps the jobs than always trimming where there needed jobs in those areas. When trimming the budget is it necessary and no jobs lost. Maybe that furniture company supplying furniture to the state house has many people employed there so when we stop getting that furniture guess who gets affected?

@@lovell1535 that needs to change the stealing of tax payers money no president in the world can do magic to save the population if most off the taxes are Eaten by government officials. Under Kenyatta it was the same lootings so now this tax looting build up the anger off Kenyan Population as it continues. The frustrations is becoming obvious and Ruto as simple as he is all that bad energy off the Ongoing lootings fell into him. Similar to that ANC votes in SA where voters decided to give the ANC less votes that way The leadership decisions on SA resources, land, wealth and taxes involves all parties concerned than one Giant party that looted for over 30yrs getting fat by themselves, rich and becoming an ego nonsense thieves. It's too bad that the Protests became dangerous and lost off lives and only if this can be a lesson to the Kenyan Population to request for any idealogies and policies when introduced by the Kenyan government be debated first by all Kenyans as they are discussed in Kenyan parliament, debated in Kenyan parliament then see what the public is saying if it make sense then legislated knowing that the population where involved and the members off parliament debated the matter on hand enough and a fair working legislation passed on the Financial Bill but in this circumstances the Kenyan Population wasn't fairly comminuted to engage fairly but a bill debated in Parliament then legislated. So now People have got hurt for bad communication channels between the government of Kenya and population on the Financial bill decisions that didn't involve the Kenyan Population. It reminds me off that Police brutality in SA where protestors where ambushed by the countries police with live bullets. The argument to that incident was that a few off the protestors had guns and shit first so the police where defending themselves. The Marikana protest turn deadly in SA under Ramaphosa. Ramaphosa continues in his top seat but still hunted in Parliament about that Marikana police shootings on peaceful protest.
