Serg is amazing. Great review. The kid is a “circus freak” always looking at the Aerials, the trapeze artists, wanting to be more. He realizes throughout the song that he is appreciated by people because he is a “freak” and that he will never gain the same acceptance as the aerial artists. In the end he is filled with disillusion and knows he has been used because he is different.

@falloutfan25022 жыл бұрын
Agree - the kid tries to imagine himself in that fancy life, and that's why he gets the details wrong. That's why he's drinking milk, hanging out with models, photographers, etc. It's a kid's vision of the fancy life he doesn't have and feels he will never get.

I think the kid is an alien, that came down from an aerial craft and is being forced to be humanized, not liking it. Thats what the video says to me. But the actual song says something else. Its hard to get meaning from a song after a production company steps in and makes a music video that doesn't relate to the real meaning of a song. Or does it?

For musical analysis purposes, I would have to say Question! is probably one of the best songs from System of a Down. There's so much going on in rhythm, and instrumentation, vocals, lyrics...I recommend that most.

Awesome analysis as always! Here's a criminally underrated suggestion: the Bass Gang. They're four bass singers from literally across the world from one another who came together to make incredible music together. Their covers of "Emperor's New Clothes" by Panic! At The Disco and "Centuries" by Fall Out Boy are absolutely jaw-dropping and I cannot believe more people haven't seen them. You'd enjoy the hell...o kitties out of them!

"Aerials" by System of a Down is a song about life's deeper meanings, including unity, interconnectedness, and the desire for freedom. It encourages listeners to "wake up" and see the possibilities that lie beyond everyday life. Some lyric analysis includes "Life is a waterfall, we're one in the river, one again after the fall", which suggests that people start off the same and end up the same.

From what I understand from the visual, it's like a special kid (a bit like mutants of MCU) who seems to have some telekinetic powers. Because of all of this, he draws attention of a lot of interested people who only try to exploit him. As he is a kid, he does not have the wisdom to refuse them. At the end, he gets money and women accompany him constantly (kind of a satyric version of success). Though he is also harrassed by paparazzis and journalists. There we understand that he still is a kid, and even though he gets anything he wants, he also feels lonely and sad because of this unwanted attention (as a lot of young stars or stars' families do). At the end he falls on the ground, synonym that he had enough of all of this and threw it away, finally alone to stop feeling alone (irony) in this human sea. Anyway all pf what I said could very well be wrong as I am not sure I got the message of the song (it seems to me it is critic of our society and our contradictory wishes).

I feel it's a lot more plain. The face is the typical celeb plastic surgery look tuned straight into the uncanny valley. Imagine Julia Roberts. Strong baby-sized chin, high protruding cheekbones, eyelashes, the works. And the celeb theme goes into the action. Here's Roberts looking kewl in a music video with cholo cars and dolla dolla bills yo, all part for their culture fosho. Here's them standing still on the "red carpet" (cardboard box) getting snapped. SOAD performs in a literal circus, because subtlety is dead. There's no super- anything here. It's a warning to the naive (young) viewer that they shouldn't project themselves onto their broadcasts nor aspire to be in them, because it sucks for both parties. The chorus can then read as a plea for direct, literally unmediated life experience.

I've seen some comments on here interpreting the meaning of this song. I truly believe that the true genius behind SOAD is their ability to write songs that can have multiple interpretations to different people. Granted, songs like BYOB and Prison song are pretty obvious, but many others are not. Reminds me of Tool (who also like SOAD, are F'ing legends)
