Kenmore Elite Calypso Top Load Washer Delicate/Casual Cycle

More calypso content! In my opinion there aren't nearly enough videos of this machine in action, so I plan to make many many more. This is the delicate cycle! As far as I know, this has never been shown on KZbin! I hope to show both the ultra handwash cycle, and wool/silk cycle soon. Stay tuned for those!

I bought my Dear mother one a year after it came out and she LOVED IT! She said it was the Best washer other than the belt driven OG Whirlpool SURGILATOR Washer she had and that one was a Beast of our Housebold for over 30 years til it died. But The Calypso was an Excellent Cleaning and Water Saving Machine.

I remember when this machine came out! It was a wild invention and I think it was the very first HE washer in America. Saw them at Sears when we'd go to the mall in my teens. Malls were cool then. 😎 Surprised it still works.

Indeed! They are quite the machine! I've only ever seen 3 for sale and I bought two of them hahaha. Not sure if you've dealt with the whirlpool catalyst washers, they were made in the same mid 2000's era. Just bought one today

My question is, how full can you load these machines without damaging them I'd read the U joint was a problem with these washers. Its a shame, because after watching this machine operate, it looks like it would do better than the newer agiplate design of the HE machines they make now.

You can load them to a point where they struggle to properly bounce the load. It won't hurt it. The very early models had horrible u-joints but they changed them in the 1st redesign and improved them. I think they changed again on the 3rd one and were made even better. But just like any washer, too many clothes and they stop moving effectively. I discovered 11 pairs of my work pants is too much haha

What did you have to do to circumvent the door switch? In order for the machine to move through an entire cycle with the door open, how could I circumvent my door switch. It has a "peekaboo" feature, which allows it to continue for a short time after opening the lid, but then stops and then, the lid must be shut and "Start" selected to resume cycle functioning.

Neat washer. Does anyone know how good of a performance these machines did as well as the level of noise ? I would say that it does an ok job as long as you don't overload it.

It's hit or miss. Some people say they're total loud garbage that can't remove the simplest of stains but others love it, saying it's quiet and washes well. In my opinion it is a little noisy but not terrible. I've also found it to remove stains quite well. You have to be careful on what fabrics you put together though, it will cover your clothes in lint.

I have one too and it's a great machine. It saved one of my rags that I was about to throw away because I never thought it would come clean. I always use heavy duty on mine. It's quiet with the lid closed and noisy with it open. I will agree with what @@nhrawashervideos6567 said. It will cover your clothes in lint if you put towels in with clothes so I wash towels separately although the dryer will remove the lint.
