Whirlpool Gold Catalyst Top Load Washer Normal Cycle Catalyst Enabled

A little stroll down memory lane for some with this machine! I just ran 8 loads of laundry in it. Some yesterday some today. No issues at all. I love this washer. the Catalyst cycle really helps to clean the clothes and make them smell great. its a shame these aren't around anymore!

Heck yeah, Catalyst buddies! I love these machines and do such a terrific job at cleaning. It looks like this ones in pretty good shape too. It’s interesting to see the difference in the Whirlpool Gold one compared to my Kenmore Elite. Still very similar though! Great video and hope to see more of this washer!

If whirlpool still made the catalyst today, there would be a fabric softener button where on most cycles with fabric softener not selected, it will do 5 30 second spray rinses just like the whirlpool WSSR washer. If selected, it would do a deep agitated rinse.

Maybe a bit much for this thing, as once it shifted to low speed movement stopped. Also, oh my God was that spin loud. Great washer though, the catalyst is very unique

Yeah I agree. It also needs a suspension rebuild. I forgot this machine shifts to low during the wash. I'm used to the direct drives that run high speed the whole time haha.

Not just the first Direct Drive washer with a electronic control. Kenmore made a Direct Drive with a electronic control in 1986.

32:47 i never saw a direct drive use low speed agtation as well as high speed agitation during the rinse also these machines can detect out of balance loads; upon detecting too much banging, the machine stops spinning and then starts again. if it detects an out of balance load 4 times, it will stop the cycle and display an error code

Just got this same machine. I bypassed the lid switch but every new cycle I get hit with "F3". Any suggestions?

I got the kenmore elite catalyst and it looks exactly the same under the lid except it's mechanical and not electronic. Is it any better than this machine in the video?

Whoa!!! 😮 Now I’m gonna want to see some Videos of that! 😃 I’ve never seen that Washer before! 🤔 Hmm…No Extra Rinse Option it looks like. 🤔 With the On/Off Buttons below the Washing Status, if you push the Button to turn on Rinse/Spin, would that end up doing an Extra Rinse, if you select a Cycle first, then turn Rinse/Spin on? 🤔 If so or if not, can I request to see this Washer run on Heavy Duty, Whitest Whites, Normal, & Quick Wash with AccuWash & Catalyst enabled, Warm Wash/Warm Rinse, Super Plus Water Level, Max (More) Soil Level, & Rinse/Spin on for Extra Rinse (Unless that Feature actually switches over to if you’re running the Washer on the Rinse & Spin Cycle, if “Rinse/Spin” is actually the Rinse & Spin Cycle instead…)? 🤔 Also, if you push the Button to turn Spin on, would that actually switch over to run it on the Drain & Spin Cycle or would that extend the Spin Duration, like on the newer GE Belt & Direct Drive Washers via the Spin Duration Option, like on the GTW720/GTW725, GTW465 (Extra Spin Option), PTW600/PTW605, etc.? 🤔

You can add an extra rinse, same way you described. Also, if you just push the spin it does go into drain and spin.

The bleach dispenser hose(s) appear to be connected wrong. Those spurts of water at the low-speed shift should have gone into the bleach dispenser to flush it and siphon out the bleach.

That is called the catalyst cycle. What it was spraying was a mix of water and Detergent that is very concentrated. It helps with pretreating stains and such.

I'm pretty sure all direct-drive machines use the lowest motor speed during neutral.

All Direct-Drive machines use the high speed windings for neutral drain. Most Belt Drive machines also use the high speed winding for neutral drain as well.

They run high speed when in neutral. Reason being, in high speed, the motor is spinning the drain pump quicker, in turn pumping the drum out quicker.

@@laundryandtrainman2467 catalyst phase. That's what makes this washer unique. It recirculates water over the clothes for a couple minutes before stopping to fill up normally.
