Kenmore Elite Catalyst - Tackling An Extra Large Load - Heavy Duty Cycle

Hello everyone! Today I present to you another video with my 2001 Kenmore Elite Catalyst washer. Today I decided to wash a rather large load in this machine, probably the largest i’ve had it tackle on video. The load consisted of 2 twin size blankets, and 6 large pillow cases. However this load was no match for the Catalyst and its Total Care Agitator, and was able to tackle it with ease! I also decided to use some “vintage” detergent, that would’ve been what one would get with this machine when they bought one. I hope you all enjoy!

I have an interesting story about Kenmore actually. In 2001 I bought a brand new Kenmore fridge. It was just a basic white fridge with the freezer on top and an ice maker. It worked fine until one evening in 2005 I came home and noticed my house smelled of smoke. I opened my fridge and saw the ice maker had caught on fire somehow. I'm shocked it didn't burn my whole house down! I guess the cold temperature of the freezer controlled the fire. I'm not sure but after that I bought a whirlpool side by side fridge that I still have. Works great

Every day I use my machine, I love it even more. So glad I have the matching dryer. No machine EVER will get clothes as clean as these do.

It did a great job, considering these were very water absorbing blankets. It’s nice that this does four spray rinses I wish more machines were able to do that.

Yes, the Ultra Rinse System on these washers is quite amazing. Pretty much every cycle does four spray rinses instead of just two at the very end. The blankets came out wonderful, and I feel it was pretty much the perfect load for this washer.

This washer still has a transmission and the cleaning action is heavy duty. Look how nice the agitator brings the clothes down and then to the top.

That’s cool that you have that sample pack! It makes me sad that the downy enhancer softener leaked out :( But it’s still cool anyways! And also I did find a sample pack but it’s all free and gentle. Like my sample pack I found had tide pods free and gentle, downy free and gentle softener, and bounce free and gentle dryer sheets. So basically all free and gentle, but that is still cooler than what I found!

I think the 2001 sample pack was a cool idea. Shame about the downy leaking out though!

I saw it, and immediately though about doing a video like this. Even if it hadn’t leaked out, I’m sure the downy still wouldn’t have been good after this long. It doesn’t take fabric softener very long before it starts to no longer be fully liquid somehow.

I wish the Catylist is still in production today, but with more features such as a hot wash with warm rinse, super wash option, different rinse options ( water saver spray rinses, deep agitated rinse, overflow rinse, deep agitated with extra rinse, etc. ) suds return, etc.

Kenmore use to be a really popular brand. It's a shame what happened to them and Sears in general. The other day I was surprised to see target selling brand new Kenmore microwaves though. I don't need a microwave currently but if I did I would've bought that just for the Kenmore name.

I agree. I wish there was something similar to it, or especially the Calypso in today’s market. It would probably be quite expensive, but both the Catalyst and the Calypso were arguably ahead of their time when they were released.

It has a strange sound in the spin cycle, in what condition will the skates be?

I’m not sure how they are, as I haven’t inspected most of the suspension closely. I think the noise you’re hearing during spin is the tub cover slapping against the rubber splash guard at the top of the tub. If the tub is off balance even the slightest bit, it tends to hit the splash guard and make noises other DDs don’t.

Well, it may be that, at least the model I have does not have that rubber against splashes and is normally very quiet when spinning: Kenmore year 94 mechanical control with 4 knobs, excellent durable machines and ask for little for the work they do.@@DrummerboysWashersAndMore

@@guirolain2319 as far as I know, only the catalyst had the rubber splash guard around the top, to help keep water from getting flung out during the catalyst phase. These machines can really handle quite a lot, and as long as they’re maintained decently, can last for a very long time.

on this machine, and similar direct drive machines, its inside the cabinet, and uses one of the lid hinges to determine if the lid is open or not.

I have a question. If I put powder or liquid detergent in the container, is that going to ruin inside the basket down the road? Just curious.

Unless you’re using way too much detergent, and taking care of the machine, it should not hurt it any. The only thing I’ve seen is too much detergent being used regularly, paired with only using cold washer, which can creat a large amount of residue left on the outer tub.

I do not like those kenmore agitators becaus eof the ratcheting knocking sound the whirlpool duals are alot quieter
