I discovered your video as I was searching for a solution to my Wards Signature Frostless upright freezer. This was very well done and informative. It is an example of how well built and serviceable older appliances can be compared to the construction of modern day versions. Now, for me to figure out if it's the compressor not kicking in or the fan preventing my freezer from freezing. Thank you, Chris!

Hi. Thanks so much for posting your video. My freezer was getting high temperature warnings. After emptying the freezer and removing the back cover (thanks for posting those detailed instructions), i saw that the fan was iced over as were some of the air circulation areas. Similar to Suzanne, kids have been leaving the freezer open, so the freeze/thaw caused water which iced up. The ice was keeping the fan from spinning. Once I cleared it, it was working great. Thanks for saving me $1k.

Not very often I come across a problem, stumble upon this video, take 10 mins to follow his steps, back together no issues and boom. Fans back to working. And when I say not very often, I mean NEVER. Kenmore thats cooling but not freezing and no sound from the fan, do this. It legitimately works. That piece from my freezer that he sanded down was coated in this blue tacky/sticky stuff.

Could either one of you answer my question real quick 🙏 are you scraping rust off the outside of it with the Sandpaper? or are you using the sandpaper to keep grip and you're loosening up something inside? Also which way did you turn it with your drill forward or reverse? Thanks if I pop the cover off and tap it counterclockwise it will start spinning again so it's 100% the fan.
@avpxyz6 ай бұрын
@@superflyers148 you are scraping rust/oxidation off. I used the drill in fwd, but direction shouldn't matter. The oxidation likely is what makes the fan not start.

Wow!!!! I've been buying new fans!!! Can't wait to see more of your pearls!!! You are the man!!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!! I buy, clean, and sell used appliances. I've recently expanded my horizons to repairing period you get a lot more bargains as you did in this video by buying broken things. Especially if they look nice outside. So far I've changed water pumps in washers but the new ones seem to be a lot more trickier than the old ones period as is with freezers! Right now I have a freezer outside that I purchased yesterday that is making a loud buzzing noise I believe it may be the condenser fan or condenser motor from the fan... I'm going to check it out the fan is working. but there's a loud buzzing noise that happens every once in awhile and it only does it for about 15 seconds and then stops the freezer is freezing but that noise is disturibing. I cannot sell a freezer that makes that noise. I take care of the people I sell to and I don't have another freezer to give them if this one happens to poop out within 30 days. I'm a disabled Vet and can't do my old lines of work. So I starting to do this about eight years ago has a hobby then realized that it was a service that I was able to provide people that couldn't afford new appliances with something quality that will last a long time.... like you said in the video the OLDER MODEL of anything is way better!! Not so many extra parts that seem to be there for no reason. Like for instance talking about the DC motor. Why? Why would you want to turn an alternating current machine into something that uses a DC motor? is it to throw off the old time guys that used to work on these kenmore's whirlpools frigidaires etc??? ... We're just getting out that these things are trash! And word is getting out that the old stuff is built to last and easy to repair. Thereby making my service a lot easier!!!

I have had a similar Kenmore freezer for 19 years. Did your fix and it worked for a week or so...now back to the same issue of not freezing (hovers around 40 degrees). I'm guessing a new fan motor might do the trick (I hope). However, without your video wouldn't have known what I do now. Wish it would have worked longer...I was walking around sticking my chest out for a week.

Great! old fashion diagnostic with repair sequence! All I would have added was a simple winding resistance check before polishing rotor. Obviously If windings shorted the 120vac would have indicated. However if the fan motor windings were OPEN? No matter what you preformed on the rotor, the fan would not run

Thanks for making detailed video. So I have similar Kenmore Elite upright freezer with similar setup (and exact same coil and fan). I disassembled the fan as detailed in your vid and the removable part is coated in clear (blue) coating. My assumption is to prevent corrosion. If you follow your recommendation with sandpaper and remove the portion of preventative coating would not this invite future problems associated to corrosion, etc. I'm wondering if the simple fact of uninstall/reinstall of fan itself addresses another issue: corrosion on wired connection(s) for fan itself and/or the separate ground wire correction to freezer chassis. Anyways -- thanks for taking the time to document and provide solution for fan with corrosion.
@816customs4 ай бұрын
While I understand your concern and I would be as well.. I did not find any of that on my motor. It was either already all worn off or was not on it. I believe after doing some research, they started coating them on the newer models to try and combat this issue. If this is true, then you are 100% correct. We don’t want to remove that due to future issues it will cause. This was an older unit from early 2000. I thank you for your detailed response. I will remember to point things out like this in future videos. Cheers 🍻

My OCD was triggered because you didn’t clean the cover before putting it back on 🤣 but that’s my problem. Where is the drain that might need to be flushed of debris in relation to all this? Also, the compressor’s location. Thank you so much. I look forward to your response.
@816customs Жыл бұрын
Hi Julie. The drain is located inside the freezer. It’s usually dead center of the freezer under this cover and visible without having to take this off. The compressor is located directly underneath the freezer and accessible from the back side. Hope this helps out. Let me know if there’s anything else you have questions about. Also, I assure you the freezer was cleaned after the completion of the video LOL 😂.

Hi Chris. I have an upright. The comressor starts and runs fine, I fixed the motor and it runs when plugged to the power socket. I measured the wires to the motor and I have no current / no power going into the motor. There is a small red square with wires coming out of it, Which is in Series with the wires going to the motor. Is that a temp sensor or resistor, its located on top of the cooling coils. ys Jesper Ps. I have a picture of it.

Great Video My Kenmore freezer not freezing, I called Sears in Miami, FL they sent me Mr. Mario from A & E and to be honest I do not feel this technician new what he was doing. He removed the same as you did in the Video he did not say anything about the fan, the coils were not all frosted and that I have a leak, and to replace it will cost me about $700. So It was somewhat freezing so I told him to do a maintenance. Needles to say now the freezer not freezing at all but cooling. I belief my compressor is working. But need some help with it. Any suggestions?

open inside panel that houses the temp control, clear the ice, & the lower vents.

Ok... right. I seem to have that exact same freezer and it's only getting down to 20°. That fan seems to be running fine. The compressor is working and, although it's a little noisy nothing is obvious to me that it's not working. First I let it defrost to see if it wasn't cooling properly because the coils were frozen over. That didn't help. I read on the data panel that it should take 8oz of R12 coolant so I made sure it had 8oz of R12 with stop leak in it. It has no visible condenser coils so I can't clean them. Could my compressor be particularly bad? The line coming out of it is cold so I just don't know what the issue is here. It's seriously like not being able to put together a five piece puzzle. Frustrating! Lol! Thanks for your help!
