Kenmore washer! bad timer? clutch or transmission? here is the answer

After a lot of grief I finally figured this out - this was my exact issue, the friggen timer. Funny this comes up now after I just fixed it, lol. 95% of the time that is not the timer is spot on.

Good video. Chasing down a problem on a Kenmore 800 series washer 29822801. The washer fills, agitates, drains, hums but will not spin. I changed out the door switch, the coupler, and the clutch. I could get the washer to drop in a spin occasionally, by turning the knob and dropping it in and out of a cycle. But not consistently. A year or so prior to this we noticed that the washer was not completing a cycle in the "regular/ normal" setting. It would work in the "Heavy Duty" and "Bulky/ Beading" settings. This led me to thing the timer might be the issue. However, I replaced it today and nothing changed. Not sure where to go next.

@@MegaMarlon0123 - Yes and no. Ended up deciding to order a transmission. When I went to put it in, I decided to check the motor. Took it to a motor shop and they didn’t have the right hookups for the motor, but they checked the capacitor. Said it read just a bit low. So, I got a new one for $5. Put it on and put the new transmission in and it seems to be working now. So it’s very possible it was just the capacitor. But I figured a new transmission couldn’t hurt. Thanks for responding. I messaged a bunch of DIY washer/ Dryer channels. No one ever responded.

@@destinycaptain247 ah cool! You are learning in the process as well, yes it can be the capacitor too! Washers are easy to fix or change parts, dryer as well

Stops then nothing. Will not start again. Safety lid switch is good. I believe it is a bad timer do you know how to check?

Mine wont drain or spin checked hoses, clear, checked coupling between motor and transmission and it’s good. If I grab a dressing wrench and spin the shaft between the pump and motor the cylinder spins normal. I put a jumper on the door switch with the cover off to see the shaft spin and nothing. Motor just hums. Could it be a bad motor. The water pours out and it stops between rinse and spin but once it hits spins it just hums and doesn’t drain… TIA

my kenmore 80 series spins but weak do you have an idea what could it be?

Kenmore series 90- sometimes is a single load bang when changing from one cycle to another. Not sure if it’s when engaging the pump or completing the drain cycle

Hi. I changed the cams but it’s still not agitating, it just spins and fills with water but suddenly stopped agitating. The agitation is slow

That would be your directional cogs they are extremely cheap and very easy to fix

My washer doesnt agitate. It barely moves a fraction of inch sort of. I thought it was agitator but it locks and all that. Any ideas?
