thank you! I just fixed my machine with your help. Clutch was worn, no spin. I saved a used transmission from a throw away machine like this, and after 5 years of sitting it finally came in handy, easy enough swap. Clothes are washed haha

Thanks for the video showing inside the clutch and brake system. I have a 90 series just like this machine. It makes a loud bang whenever the rinse cycle stops... sometimes so loud that one of the basket springs flies off. I have new springs and a clutch coming today but I thought I'd ask what you think that loud banging sound could be. Agitates and spins just fine. Worried it might be something going bad in the transmission. Thanks for your help 🙂

Sounds like the brakes are not working properly. Is is coming to a violent stop? Try putting it in drain and spin. As it is spinning, open the lid and let me know. Better yet email me and video at appliancerepaiarshorts@gmail.com

@@appliancerepairshorts thanks. I'll try taking a video and emailing later today. But yesterday after it banged loud during the first discharge, I opened the lid preemptively so it wouldn't stop so violently on the rinse and the basket does come to a smooth stop. I have the machine partially disassembled right now and guess I'll know more when I pull the transmission to look at the clutch. Thanks so much for your response and help!

Try loosening the hub nut which attaches the tub to the drive block. Loosening the hub nut allows the tub to come to a slower stop. Sometimes the hub nut gets tighter and tighter over the years

@@stevecrockett6619 .. Just loosen it in 180 degree increments and put the washer on spin until the tubs comes to a stop the way you want it to. Good luck.

Thank you for the knowledge! Found your video after replacing the broken dogs in the agitator. Agitator working now but Now I have to spin the basket by hand then the motor continues the spin. Basket spins on its own but sometimes needs a manual kick start to get it going. I have acquired this washer and believe it has been sitting for 2+ years not running? I’ve already ordered wrong parts but was still able to use the dogs out of the package. Please put out some links to the parts needed to do the exact repair in your video. I sure would like you to get any well deserved Amazon credit with the option to click a hyper link to purchase the parts. Thank you again.

I have an issue where when it hits the spin cycle it tripped the fuse/breaker I believe. So I reset the fuse/breaker (reason I keep calling it a breaker is because it actually is. Nifty screw in "fuse" breaker that fits the old style fuse panels.) Im not sure it tripped it cause I never felt the click resetting it. But anyway I think it may have tripped it but not sure if it was a coincidence it happened to work again. But my issue was on the spin cycle it was humming. Like it was "binded". It was on every modes spin cycle so I ruled out it being the switch/dial. I thought it may have been the gear box, drum bearing or some other bearing, but i had the gear box/tranny apart and it appears to be functioning normally like in your video. I suspected the clutch to the drum as if feels exceptionally tight. I'll have to look at it again. I have to figure out what type of oil to add back to the gear box. Do you have any recommendations? Like would Automatic Transmission oil, motor oil or gear oil? Some different oil than 60w (I read something online about that was what it "took"). Also how much oil to put in it? Also Im torn weather to use rtv/hondabond to seal the box mating surface. Im also assuming I level it and add oil before adding rtv and sealing screwing it together as I didn't see any port to add oil later. Will try to work with that clutch cause I believe that is where my problem is.

So if it is humming, that says something is not getting enough power, it could be a bad capacitor, something caught in the drain pump. Remove the drain pump and try it first. If still doing it, check the brakes. You can lay the washer down and check it. You can use a flat blade screwdriver and tap it with a hammer. If the brakes are not free to move, the washer will hum. I actually will be uploading a very similar video soon. Let me know if you need any more help. You can email me at video at appliancerepairshorts@gmail.com

@@appliancerepairshorts I uploaded a video on my regular account @mattcasdorph of me working on it. I took the gearbox apart and looked at it. It appears to be working properly. The brake on the bottom of the drum also appears to be working. Im concerned about the silver brake/clutch(?) looking piece, that piece seemed tight and Im not sure what it's purpose is. It just seemed to spin freely around the shaft with a little resistance but nothing that would affect anything. I am planning on reinstalling the whole thing and trying it again.

@@appliancerepairshorts I had the tranny apart and put back together, added oil and decided to put it back together. Had the motor and tranny out of it and tried the wash mode which obviously wont run with the water level low or empty in this case. But did tey the spin mode. Same hum without a load on it, so what I'm thinking is possibly the capacitor. I ordered a cheap used one in hopes that if it wouldn't be the problem then I didn't loose much in the $8 spent. I tried to use a screwdriver and there was no charge in it to release. Is that indicative of a bad capacitor? Should it have had a charge?

@@appliancerepairshorts ok, so got a used capacitor off eBay just in case it wasn't, I didn't want to get burnt on a $50 part if it wasn't. So paid $8 for a used one and its working again. If the brakes are stuck, the washer will not spin. The clutch would basically burn out. If your washer stops properly when it is done spinning, your brakes are fine. If your basket is not spinning and you can hear making noise like something is moving. If you look and see something shiny, it is the clutch

okay i might have finally found the right guy to ask my question. I have this EXACT washer.. i decided to clean it up thoroughly as i noticed some rust on the inside of the drum just as the one you were working on this video has. I am sure you had to use a puller to get that drum off the drive spindle just as i did . My question is around the rust, Mine also has rust under the agitator as this one did but not as much. But i had a ton on the underneath side of the drum where the spindle goes through. Can a remove the rust with a wire wheel on a drill and hit it with some rust paint ? replacing the drum is super expensive so not worth it, but i was just wondering your thoughts on this ? or should i just slap it back together and move on ? Thanks . I actually have another washer for parts and i took the drum off that one and it has exactly the same issue.. almost like the water has no place to go and just sits there so rusts from the inside out. As soon as you take the agitator off you see the rust

If it is rust that you can scrap off , remove it, but those baskets are baked. So I would not paint it. Maybe a rust converter . On my channel on a speed Queen maintenance I used the product called Corroseal. Excellent stuff. Love that you are fixing your washer. Excellent unit. I tell my customers don’t get rid of them. Double check your work. As in the cam . You might have a timer issue. The timer should checked. 285785 for Whirlpool Kenmore Washer Washing Machine Clutch PS334641 AP3094537. @@appliancerepairshorts I did try a different timer. I've replaced everything but the brake basically. Replaced transmission, clutch, timer and motor. When I put the transmission back it was hard to get in, which I realized was the brake had slid down. Which led me to looking at parts diagrams to try to figure it out. I cleaned off the brake and the housing, but still same problem.
