My dad actually drove one of the cars in that commercial. Think he got paid $50 and a couple of those toys. Kenner is a Cincinnati based company most famous for the original Star Wars toys. Apparently, many other big toy companies laughed at the thought of movie toys and this little toy company in Cincinnati ended up making a fortune.

This commercial immediately takes me back to the early 70s when I was a kid, such a trip when you see/hear something that transports you back to a simple and innocent time in your life. Wow! I have two of these sets with all original cars and ramps including the boxes. The toys made by Kenner were well built and still work to this day! Toys were made to last. This is awesome stuff!! It was a lifetime ago but joyous nonetheless!

brought tears to my eyes. Feels just like it did the first time I saw the commercial. What an incredibly happy time those 70s were (the 50s and 60s too). Today it has all gone to shit. I've been getting more and more depressed with every decade that has gone by since then. I don't know how I am going to face another few decades the way the world is going today. The 70s was , to me, the last of the best times. Everything was better then - movies, sitcoms, weekly shows, the climate, food tasted better, people were happier, there was less crime, the cars were some of the best built ever in the 50s, 60s and 70s., families were a lot closer, etc, etc.

Yeah, back in the 70's, I'm pretty sure ours wasn't the only family where 3 kids' screeching and tearing into a truckload of toys (no few of which we'd broken by noon), the need for ''some assembly required'', visiting relatives, and spilled food and drink culminated, by bedtime in a good tannin'. At least my father would ask us ''Do I need to take my belt off?'' a half dozen times before it actually went down. No harm done. And this was a great toy. We'd run them into our Evel Knievel stunt bike (in the house). 70's ruled.

I saw this on tv when I was about 6. Had to have it. Got it for my birthday. I couldn't believe my eyes when I unwrapped it! (Being an upper, lower-class kid, unexpectedly receiving something that I really wanted, but thought I'd never have... you tend to cherish these moments. Anyhoo...) Right up until I discovered Star Trek (Yeah... I know.)... this was the coolest thing I had ever seen. I LOVED IT! Bestest present I ever got. "Comes with everything you see... right cheer." That, and a boxful of HotWheels... life was good.

Had the set, used to fly them off the ramp, they sure could fly. Crash them into things, parts would fly off, then put them back on. After awhile, the parts got damaged, after too mary crashes and the teeth on the t wore out after awhile. They were fun too play with, miss those cars, that's when you actually had toys that were fun to play with. Way better than hand held games, or cell phones, kids today don't know the meaning of real fun toys.

I looked them up on ebay , fresh set in wrapper all the pieces , $500 . one car all the pieces and rip cord $200- $250 .Near full set in poor condition two cars , ripcords and minimal pieces , $150-$200 .

My friends and I didn't waste our time with this - we used our Matchbox, Johnny Lightning and Hot Wheels cars instead! We called our stupid little contests "Car Wrestling" (after a concept we saw in an episode of "Speed Racer"). They took a long time to break, but when they did we laughed. Idiots that we were, we now look at the vintage cars we had and have to fight back tears at all the money we could have gotten for them had we kept them intact and sold them on eBay. God, were we stupid.
