It's insane how there is an industry that will purchase a spec from a master writer then hire another 14 to rework it. I'm curious to see his original Analyze This.

"Nobody wants character development in science fiction and fantasy films." Are you kidding me?! I think he's completely wrong on this.

Right? Action/fighting all the time is just boring and senseless!

Benish Ben Arrival, Ex Machina, Her, Interstellar, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Alien, Predestination, Children of Men, Under the Skin. Just to name a few fantastic science fiction films with great character development.

Can I ask wtf 10 Cloverfield Lane and Predestination are doing in that list of great films?

When he says "nobody" he's not referring to the audience, he is referring to Hollywood producers. If writers and directors weren't always fighting for their script, the producers of these movies would only have mindless action scenes because they believe that's what "sells".

be warned: this is an absolute snorefest and offers no 'solid advice'.

Then you're just watching, you're not listening. "I just try to write the way people seem to speak, and I try to give each character their own individual way of speaking. I try to imagine what they would say and not think so much of interesting things they could say." 3:56 - 4:14 Try watching a movie where every single phrase is thought out to give you a special feeling or set the mood, or build up to some huge revelation and you will understand how unnatural, predictable and boring those movies feel.

that example proves my point. he is waffling around, there is nothing substantial here.

Substantial? What did you expect? "Kenneth Lonergan shares a word that will transform your script to Oscar quality!" ? Writing is all about the little things, so that sounds pretty substantial to me.
