During the 2022 NFL Draft, there were 22 running backs taken. Of those, two of these players are the current favorites to be the offensive rookie of the year. You have Kenneth Walker III, who was a second-round pick for the Seattle Seahawks, and Dameon Pierce, who was a fourth-round pick for the Houston Texans. As it stands, Walker has the slight edge over Pierce in terms of Vegas odds. Fair or not given that Pierce has 40 more carries than Walker, both of these running backs are playing extremely well for their respective teams.
Dameon Pierce has just over 500 yards, with 4.8 yards per carry average, and 3 touchdowns for the Texans. Meanwhile, Walker already has 410 yards, with a 6.1 yards per carry average, and 4 touchdowns in the Seahawks’ offense. In this video, I wanted to compare and contrast their running styles. Also, I looked at their advanced stats so I can make an argument as to who I think should be favorited in the race for Offensive Rookie of the Year.

I've been more impressed with what Pierce has done although Walker has been great. Because Pierce was drafted 4th round the expectations for him were much lower and he's greatly exceeded them. When you look at the OE stats, you have to consider strength of offensive line. Seahawks have a better line, they open up better gaps. Pierce is fighting harder for yardage. I'd give edge to Pierce.

Kenneth Walker can go for a TD anytime he touches the ball. He had multiple long TD runs last year for Michigan State and already has two long runs this year in minimal playing time. Walker is a difference maker.

this ALREADY needs an update. As i thought, the more carries walker gets, the more the advanced stats alone would prove that dameon is better in comparison. If you want the legit stats comparing the 2, here they are: kenneth walker 4.9 ypt, 71.0 pff (not even top 10 for rb) 690 total yards, 2.8 yards before contact, 18th in yards after contact, only 7 more broken tackles TOTAL then what dameon had in 1 game against the jags. seahawks 21st highest stacked box % in the nfl. dameon peirce 4.8 ypt. 89.0 pff (2nd highest for rb) 898 total yards, 1/10th of 1 yard before contact, 2nd in yards after contact, 2nd most broken tackles in the nfl, broke a record for most broken tackles in 1 game since 2006. texans 3rd highest stacked box % in the nfl. The ONLY, and i mean ONLY statistic that walker has on dameon, is YPC, and the reason for that is listed above, and will absolutely change by the end of the year. kenneth has gone from 6.1 ypc since week 7, to 4.9. that should start to plataue a little bit, but i even expect dameon to finish higher in that as well. Yes I am biased, but these stats are not. these are only facts, and they do not tell a lie. Switch dam31 and k9s teams, and dameon would be a runaway for rookie of the year, NO DOUBT about it. And two weeks later - Pierce yds.772 avg 4.7ypc Walker yds586 avg 4.9ypc No one can avg 6 ypc. Full time player. From what I noticed Pierce stops and goes a lot more, meaning he uses the blocker better, meaning better vision. If he doesn't get hurt he should win roy he already has almost 200 yds more than walker. Dang I should of placed a bet 🤔. None the less good luck to both guys, they should go on to have great careers.🙏

Dameon Pierce is way more valuable to his team, they would be nowhere without him this season. He also faces 8 in the box and is expected to get the ball all the time while Walker is on a way better offense and situation.

Totally agree. Pierce for me and it isnt close. Hes faces STACKED boxes EVERY game with a horrible QB and STILL gets positive yards not to mention 25/30 yard gains. Watched the Philly game and Philly KNEW the Texans were going to run and Pierce STILL ended up with positive yards.

The Texans are nowhere even with Pierce. They only won 1 game this season. Meanwhile Walker has won the Seahawks at least 2 games with his 4th quarter rushing ability.

I got both also I drafted walker late with Rashad penny on board I knew I had to be patient, week 4 vs Det Penny had 150 2 yds and I was worried Kw9 wasn't going to see the field but the next week Penny got hurt.And walkers been great so far except last week he had a quiet week but he is my RB2 with josh Jacobs my RB1 and Perice my Flex

OROY will come down to health and team wins. In broken tackle stats, you need to take away garbage runs to milk the clock. K9’s stop and go speed is ridiculous, as is his jukes and cuts. Pierce has similar build to K9 and both are exceptional running backs for their respective teams. For now the sky’s the limit for both and time will tell.

Two very different running backs… Walker is a home run hitter, Pierce is a physical short yard running back that can hit the gap on occasion. Walker will be elite if he stays healthy and Pierce will slow from wear and tear much quicker…physical backs always do.
