Loved reading his published diaries nearly 20 years ago. May reread them, thanks for this.

I came face to face with KW in Dickens and Jones (London), mid 80s. As recognition set in he gave me one of those withering looks. Chilling!

A true original just as entertaining when he’s talking seriously and he’s not playing a role

I was surprised by the reactions Mavis gave to some answers, e.g. about why would anyone commit suicide or does handwriting change according to mood. She seemed genuinely unaware that life is brutal and would make people want to do the former. Also handwriting is a direct expression of ones state of mind, so bound to change as a result.

Out of all his interviewers, she seems the most understanding. Or at least Ken looks very relaxed in her presence and opens up about all sorts of awful deep fears and sorrows. I think in her interviews we get closer to seeing the real Ken. I guess it's a gift of hers - the way she listens to some of his shocking answers about suicide etc without judging.

We've almost forgotten those days. and those darlings out of BBC... and Benny Hill, and Monty Python... and . and.... Please. Genius..... brings with it a certain kind of light. So loumenious.... is this light............ it becomes facinating. The truth is .... really is.................. self-evident................ if you're awake. ? If you know what i mean. wink, wink. Dame Edna..... I believe in you. So............ I've been drinking a little too much........... You'll have to forgive me..... I haven't always lived off the kindness of strangers. Never mind. I didn't say that." Delarobbie Blue, It's dela robbie blue." Blance tried to explain.to Marland Brando............... Tenesse .... I love you.

I was watching Fantabulosa, first time since it’s broadcast. Like most of us in the U.K. I grew up watching the Carry On films. I was thinking about picking up a copy of his diary.... after this video I don’t think I will. He made it clear that he doesn’t want them read.

I have a copy, and it is selected extracts, not the whole diary. Buy it. There are some funny and fantastic material, behind the scenes of the Carry Ons and other TV, radio shows.

In the video I just watched before this one, which may be from the same program, he said he would be OK with his diary's being read after his death. (so in this video he must of meant not while he was alive)

That is terrible and Michael Sheen nay be able to do a good Tony Blair but he is absolutely appalling as Kenneth in ny opinion. How the hell anyone can watch that caricature crap portrayal Sheen gives astonishes me. The scene were he is sitting on the bench and 'laughing' for no reason is just painful to behold. Nothing like Kenneth. Now, for an utterly amazing portrayal of Kenneth that never got a single mention and is light years ahead of that Welsh idiots forced lash up, must be Adam Godley who plays Williams in 'Cor, Blimey!'. It is all the more amazing as Godley is over 6' tall and looks NOTHING like Williams, yet his vocal interpretation is SPOT ON and is enough to suspend disbelief and it certainly does! If only he had portrayed Kenneth for 'Fantabulosa!' it may actually have been watchable.

@@rnw2739 “welsh idiot’s forced lash up” You really didn’t have to make him being welsh a criticism. It really detracts from everything else you had to say.

This strikes a chord with me. I've been keeping a diary since the Covid lockdown and have kept it up. Some entries are just a narrative of events, especially when one has fallen behind and needs to catch up. Other entries are more reflective taking in wider thoughts and issues. It's very therapeutic actually if you don't have someone else to share your thoughts with.

Really? As it happens, in his diaries the earlier and more flippant entries about suicide are hilarious. They tend to occur as a result of the most insignificant event (like getting a spot on his nose) and the ensuing and impending death he insists he must undergo rather than continue to exist with such a grotesque blemish, is hysterical in its fervour and ridiculousness.
