Wonderful people, part of England's comedy culture that those of a certain age were brought up with. The nostalgia purveyed not just through the films but the actor's presence here off film is so powerful. Even here you feel they are still in character, such was the power of those halcyon days.

@argieav7 жыл бұрын
He was very talented and a fantastic raconteur but there is surely no need to pretend he had a 'heart of gold' whatever one means by that. He was, by most accounts, and as his diaries indicated, a sometimes difficult and waspish person.
@degsbabe6 жыл бұрын
Yes indeed, if you read his diaries you'll soon be disabused of certain ideas you may have formed about him. He avoided fans and autograph hunters like the plague. Much to the dismay of close friends like Gordon Jackson who relished his adoring fans. Yet his comedy genius is beyond question.
@Eleventhearlofmars6 жыл бұрын
Urbino237 there’s a movie on KZbin called Cor Blimey that paints a much different picture to the Kenneth Williams that you appear to think he may of been, apparently he used to tell autograph hunters to piss off or other words to that effect. 2:15 - I can reveal the secret here - Kenny was wearing a stupid false beard in his role in Carry on Spying where Barbara first worked with him. Barbara kept getting here lines muddled and Kenny said "Oh duckie do get it right", to which Barbara replied forcefully "Ere you, don't you have a go at me with Fenella Fielding's minge hair round yer chops. I won't stand for it" - Kenny stunned for a few seconds, Barbara knew Kenny did not get on well with Fenella, he suddenly burst out laughing and said "Oww! Ain't she lovely?" - from that moment on they were best friends for life.

Kenneth Williams, witty, articulate, intelligent, a loner. Benny Hill, effectively the same. Two of my favourite comedy heroes, growing up, along with Stanley Baxter, Dave Allen and Dick Emery, they had a massive impact on the way my sense of humour developed, and I soon realised how hard these people worked to 'be funny'. Part of their talent is not allowing you see the struggle, and the hours spent in getting things right. Kenneth Williams, 'Don't muck about' catchphrase, is as much a work ethic as a funny quip. I loved his humour and self-deprecating attitude too, because he knew it made for good TV, but it was his blitz of brilliance in the 'Carry On' films that locked him in many people's hearts. Paired with Barbara Windsor (who had her own pair - sorry, Sid James joke) in this interview, they seem to be two dear friends just having a chat over coffee. The Public were lucky to have such a great team of 'Carry On' stars, and it is always going to sad as we lose them over the years. Liz Fraser passed on, and now we have lost the wonderful Barbara Windsor too. Comedy heroes, from my youth, I'm just glad so much of their material is either commercially available or posted on KZbin. R.I.P. Kenneth, Liz and Barbara. I'm sure the God's of comedy were pleased to welcome you home.

In case there is anyone who doesn't know, the Carry On Spying story is from the first day of shooting. Williams, wearing a false beard, shoots his first scene with Windsor and she fluffs the line. He says "Oh, DO get it right!" and she, having heard of the frictions between him and Fenella Fielding during a revue season they did together, says to Williams (with reference to the false beard) "Ere! Don't you talk to me like that with Fenella Fielding's minge hair round your chops!" From then on, they became great friends because he loved people who stood up to him.

In 1986, after her divorce from Ronnie Knight, Barbara Windsor married, on a beach in Jamaica, a chef called Stephen Hollings, who was 19 years her junior. For some years she gave out that the marriage was blissfully happy - “He’s an absolute darling and I’m a very lucky lady” - only to change her tune entirely in 1994, when she announced that their relations had been a sham and that she had had at least four lovers while she had been with him.

There are films made today which are far worse than the Carry On movies. It's what the censor ratings are for. Also, don't confuse what P.C. actually is.
