Looking back, it's obvious that my eyesight failed me when I was studying that match. BUT it led to discovering this particular variation on the choke, and this bad boy has served me well. Those are the kind of mistakes I like.

How about getting a collar tie with right hand then using that K guard kick. In one motion, kick slide right hand to palm up grip on collar then shoot left hand in for far side lapel and rotate belly down.

Professor, which hand does most of the choking? Is it the one closer to you or the other one
@KennethBrown3 жыл бұрын
@@FreddieBadBoy it is the hand that is palm up.

Beautiful details... thank you! Your attention to the grips, the likely reactions by the "uke", and your amazing translation from a visual analysis of a technique to instruction of a variation on that technique... beautifully done. I hope to visit you next time I'm in MD!

Slick. Your explanation and demonstration is superb and as you point out, it's a new entry into a choke that using the "traditional" entry, you see coming with the first palm up grip! Plz, keep your instructional vids coming!!

First off, thanks for sharing the video with us! I'm somewhat confused though, as the first/"inferior" grips you're showing are the exact ones, Magid uses in his DVD. Also going back to the Clark match, I think he uses the same ones as well. It's just confusing as Clark is passing to Magid's left side (which is less common). In your video you're using the exact grips Magid was using against Clark (left hand 4 fingers in, right hand thumb in), but you're turning TOWARDS the passer, while Magid turned AWAY from the passer (as you did in the first variation and Magid demonstrates on his DVD). That's not to say your grip variation isn't good or superior to the other one, it's just not the one Magid was using vs Clark. I'll definitely give it a shot though! Were you able to get some more experience with it by now and which method do you prefer these days?
@KennethBrown7 жыл бұрын
I went back and watched that match again. You're right on one thing. The execution was slightly different. Magid had half guard on the other side, but it didn't matter. All the principles were the same. He still had to rotate towards the pinky on his palm up grip, his elbows had to connect, and his head had to be lower than Clark. And yeah, I've had ridiculous amounts of success with it.

If you keep -TIGHT- he will never be able to armbar you
@KennethBrown5 жыл бұрын
I do not disagree that it would be difficult to armbar a good slugger. In fact, in that match between Zak Maxwell and Magid Hage. Zak went for the armbar but he was too slow in the transition, and he went to sleep for it. With the traditional grips though, the possibility will always exist.
@counterhit1217 жыл бұрын
I didn't even know you could hit a submission from knee shield, let alone the nearside palm up grip variant/improvement. 2 for 1! Subbed.
