Thank you. Yes, it was a tragic end for an extraordinary beast that already faces so many man made threats.
@SpartanThe300th3 жыл бұрын
@@KennethLawrencePhotography Without trying to be cynical, but... Am I the only one thinking there might have been foul play involved? I mean, you filmed it, so the locals knew the location of the carcass. It would only have taken one unscrupulous person to go there... The story about the leopard losing its footing seems a bit unlikely for several reasons. For example, the fact that the snow lepards are so scarsely seen in the wild, makes it very unlikely that someone's witnessed the event. Secondly, without the good quality scopes and/or optics that you were using (not sure how likely the locals were to have them), it would have been nigh on impossible to spot it. Thirdly, even if they were using the optics, it would have required investing plenty of time and patience - unlikely l, as the locals have work commitments. Yet the way they described in detail how the leopard had "lost its footing" sounds as though someone had witnessed the tragic event.
@KennethLawrencePhotography3 жыл бұрын
No foul play. Life ending hunts happen everyday around the world. The wildlife sanctuary that I filmed in has photographers visiting from across the globe. The local villagers serve as guides and porters, so they're out spotting activity almost everyday during the winters - when sightings are at their peak. They locals villagers will always have witnessed moments far more rare and spectacular than any visitor.
@SpartanThe300th3 жыл бұрын
@@KennethLawrencePhotography True that. I guess the profound sadness I felt because of the poor leopard's death made me explore some unlikely scenarios. Thanks for your prompt replies!

@@sailormani oh my God!! 🤣. Wouldn't that be very easy to not allowed happen? The flocking of rowdy crowds... The answer is Yes. Very easy! The snow leopard does not want to be our hero. Nor does it want our sympathy. If there is anything that can be done to improve its situation, a well thought out and responsible dedicated effort would be welcome. It is okay to "tamper with" or "interfere with" "Nature" by now, using good judgement and not creating negative side effects. Let's be more mature. I am totally saddened by the snow leopard's situation. That is not going to do anything to climate change.

Snow leopards are called ghosts of mountains, because one moment you see them, another moment they disappear. I remember first time seeing one. I was going to my grandma's house during winters in lahoul, suddenly people in car started saying there's a snow leopard! I saw it for first time. He was sitting top of a rock, watching towards the white Valley. As I looked back to leopard, it disappeard . Not because he went away, but because of its camouflage. It was first and probably last time I saw it. Thank you for showing us the glimpse of mountain ghost again.

Loved your presentation. And the narration. And the warnings of how climate change is affecting their survival. I was in India in1982 and spent some of that time in the northern border areas. In the mountainous areas I had the book of Peter Matthiessen 'The Snow Leopard'. His journey with George Schaller to the Land of Dolpo to document the Blue sheep and hopefully Snow Leopard. The Snow Leopard has been part of my soul ever since. Anyone touched by that wild land and the beautiful leopard would understand that.

Hi Kenneth, I just watched your documentary and I totally agree with you that the increasing carbon foot print of human beings is turning very dangerous for these Himalayas and the flora and faunas which live there. I was in Ladakh last month from June 18 to 23 and during my tour I got to see Khardungla pass, Pangong Tso lake and later Lahaul valley while coming back via Keylong. During my stay in Leh town I found that all the open drainage were flooded and people were trying hard to take out non-degradable waste things from them as they were causing blockages at many places and water was coming on roads too. When I asked how this much water was coming into city, then people told me that this year sky is totally clear since one month and so temperatures are much above normal here. This condition has resulted into fast melting of snow over the mountains around and thus, this much of water is coming from above hills. ... I was really surprised to see so much flood without any rain. Later on, when we were coming to Keylong, while crossing Lahaul valley similar flood was seen between Darcha and Jispa. We saw so much of snow melting and water logging on road that many cars were stranded there. This was very dangerous scene "even before monsoon". I had realised then and there, that as soon as monsoon comes, this whole region of Himachal is going to see huge flood and disasters. My anticipations turned so much correct that next week (after I returned safely back home) first spell of rains brought unprecedented rains and flood in Lahaul, Spiti Manali, Kullu and all areas in that region, causing huge damages. You can see videos of that catastrophe. I plead to all the people in the world to please please make sure to reduce your carbon foot prints at your end to help Himalayas and innocent local residents of this beautiful creation of God. Thanks.
