Further to my earlier post. I can't ever recall two drummers enjoying each others company more than these two.

This is a case of 2 great drummers enjoying each other's playing. Different styles....but Kenny Clarke is the father of bebop drumming and I think Kenny Clare was honored just to be on the same stage.

Kenny Clare was a great supporter of the English Premier drums. A great sounding kit, used my many great British and European drummers in that era.

Two great drummers! Interestingly it is Kenny Clarke playing Premier - it's hard to see what Kenny Clare is playing but he endorsed a number of brands around the late 60's/early 70's. In the early 70's he worked with Premier creating the 'Resonator' series, these were drums with an inner shell.
@terrydonegan16222 жыл бұрын
He had a kit named after him. It then became the resonator

point well put, both were great and they complemented each other within the big band which I think was the first and only two drummer big bands to tour and make many great albums.

The were both great drummers! However Clare was the sight reader, and Clarke took is easy and let him do that, as you can see in 1:02. But Kenny Clarke was in his own way the foundation go Bebop drumming. Great clip!

i had the priviledge and fortune to have had a few lessons with kenny. i also have drum spectacular on vinyl, although when i asked, kenny said he had made no records. i found the album in an old record shop, payed about a quid i think.

Very distincitve sound ok,which was the thing when listening to the great bands of the day.You immedetely knew who the band was(not just the tunes or arrangements)This group had star sidemen from europe & the states.Never got to see the band live unfortunattly.

Greetings Drumguy! you may have a valid point as I often compare pro drummers to Buddy Rich and his band(s) over many years, which might be unfair in this case. I'll reconsider and will get back to ya.

Kenny clare brilliant saw him swindon1976 with my drum teacher On his drum clinic just proves you don.t need loads of drums to be one of the best

As a drummer also I dont mind how many drums and cymbals you got as long as you use and utilise them! I hate it when a drummer has so much stuff and most of it doesn’t get played

I don't know what drums you are talking about but you can get virtually any type of set made from any kind of wood or other material today. You can duplicate old vintage drums sounds or go with a more modern sound. Back then you had way less choices.

I remember Kenny Clare at the time he was Britain's answer to Buddy Rich, looking back now he was too wild and clumsy in his solo's and here he is clearly out played by Mr Clark, although Buddy himself held him in high esteem, he also praised a Drummer Called Ronnie Verrell who was noted for having the errr fasted "arms" in the business.

This is a Documentry,not a concert,& shows each member of the band in a music / home environment.I kinda like the rare "home video" clips.You can check out the complete film elswhere on youtube.well worth a watch.
@joellafargue98826 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, but those home movie clips seem, to me, to be out of place here. I might go so far as to say that they're "disconcerting". And, no, I'm not trying to be funny, but at the same time, I don't wanna sound like a jerk.

I once heard a guy say "But drummers aren't musicians". What an idiot. Kenny Clarke obviously knows the chart, but Kenny Clare is reading the dots outside the solo. .
@allen69245 жыл бұрын
You're "nuts" Kenny Clarke is the "jazz" drummer. The other guy plays drums. And was obviously a student taught by Clarke
@keithdrums1008 жыл бұрын
I totally disagree,Big Bill Lucas,as a professional drummer myself I would rate Kenny Clare as a better player and indeed in his solo there were more complex rudiments taking place and a better feel,everything we hear is subjective but that is my opinion although I respect your too!
@allen69245 жыл бұрын
No way he was lost and supplementing musical ideas by hiding behind rudiments of drumming. Any real drummer would hear that.
