Can we just take a moment to appreciate the level of detail that is present in set and props for this sub 3 minute scene! All of the cabinetry and the bottles of potions and lotions were all well placed to ensure that we believed that they were in a small Chemist shop. Not that I have ever walked into such a tiny Chemist shop here in Australia, ours are bigger and even bigger than they were at the time that this was filmed in the late 70s and early 80s. Now Chemist shops are all part of big chains, open 7 days a week, 9 to 9 for the most part with a small handful open until 11 or 12, but they are well spread out around the suburbs. The days of the family owned Chemist shop are now gone, some are partnerships but the majority are Corporations, with everyone in the store an employee, yes even the Chemist. At least one chain of Chemist shops has a dispensing machine for the packets of medicines and it works something like how the modern Coke machines work with a servo motor controlled scoop to go and collect the packets from the appropriate pigeon hole. Expensive machine just to replace the need for the Chemist or assistants to know exactly where each type and size of medicine are kept. Mark from Melbourne Australia Progress, mmmm maybe

Make the effort to travel beyond the boundaries of your own suburb - or the Melb CBD, if that's where you actually live. You'll find an Australia very different to the one you so colourfully and negatively describe. If all one ever sees is one's own 4 walls, one will conclude that the 'world' is very small.

Joanna Lumley always be the consummate sexy lady, (even with glasses and a bun), but she's also a trained actress, Kenny never was, yet in this scene, he actually drops all the comedy and acts. @kermitHSHS2 жыл бұрын
he was multitalented and influential. His Radio show certainly was. He was also one who really helped break Queen on to the mainstream
@trueaussie92302 жыл бұрын
What's not 'sexy' about a woman "with glasses and a bun"?! True 'sexy' comes more from personality and manner than from (superficial) appearance. Many men - me included - think glasses can enhance the 'sexyness' / 'atractiveness' of a female. And tying the hair up in a 'bun' enhances and highlights the neck.
@TryptychUK2 жыл бұрын
@@trueaussie9230 The whole point is that Joanna is a fantastically sexy lady, so they tried to "damp it down" and make her appear more prim and drab.
@trueaussie92302 жыл бұрын
@@TryptychUK Oh, really?! Is that how it's done?! So, you're saying they're playing on and propagating a negative stereotype - in a similar manner to negative racial stereotypes. Who would have thought?! Thank you so much for that 'pearl of wisdom'. You didn't answer my question, though. So, actually "the whole point is" it's YOU who said "Joanna Lumley always be (sic) the consummate sexy lady" EVEN WITH "glasses and a bun", thereby implying that, in YOUR opinion, 'ladies' who wear glasses and (or?) a bun are NOT 'sexy' and publicly promoting that unsustainable negative stereotype. So, I repeat - what is NOT 'sexy' about a 'lady' who wears 'glasses and a bun'?! You seem to promote that 'ladies' who wear 'glasses and (or?) a bun' are, without doubt, "prim and drab". I suggest that's very judgemental and based of nothing more than your own bizarre prejudices. I can assure you, from personal experience, you could not be more wrong.
@TryptychUK2 жыл бұрын
@@trueaussie9230 Play out all your virtue signalling woke stereotypes all you like, that's how it was meant to come across. It's a classic comedy routine, when the prim and proper woman removes her glasses and lets her hair down, to the exclaims of "Why, Miss Jones, you're beautiful!!"
