@99 I’m Malayali I’m Christian… yea many know Hindi if they’ve studied in cbse schools, if they study in state schools, theyll understand hindi but not be able to speak it, unless they work outside the state or get a chance to mingle with other hindi speaking communities within the state. In my case, I haven’t worked outside the state or lived outside the state, but i watch a lot of hindi movies, so while i understand hindi, I’m not confident speaking the language (I can speak in my mind lol ). So yea both ur statements r right. The 1st statement is right bcoz its not uncommon to find a name like that, and its not uncommon to find people who cant speak hindi. also, Christianity existed in Kerala way before the Portuguese or british. Its disputed if it was St. Thomas or Syrian traders that brought Christianity here. Our original liturgy of aramaic and syriac was destroyed by the Portuguese and latin was forced on us.

@@ghasitaram Being better off (percentage wise). Christians are just 2% of the entire Indian population but contribute to substantial foreign remittances. You should be careful when you use the word "Converted". I haven't seen anyone complaining about Rick's Italian/Jewish or Korbin's Irish ancestry even though US had to snatch independence from the British. Indians have the habit of digging up the past and hence they are mostly living in the past. The holy bible is a good path to follow as is the Geeta and the Quran. In the end you need to be a good person. That is what is taught. Indians still prefer their kids to be convent educated and for a good reason.

According to official statistics, the number of christians in India is in single digits (2-3%), but in reality it is more like 15% or so. A lot of people follow christianity but don't report it so in the population census, since they would lose 'quota' (Indian affirmative actions) benefits in education and government jobs. While hindu's are still the majority, it is in reality a paper-thin majority of around 55-60% of the population or so.

@@JenniferPinto You will not get official data, but basically a lot of people belonging to castes that are labelled 'Scheduled castes' and some in the 'scheduled tribes' are now converted christians. There is a 21% quota in everything from educational institutions to jobs for them (21% because that was their population percentage from a few decades ago). 15% because somewhere around 50-60% of them are now christians in many states (not all). This can be clearly seen in who wins the elections from these states. If they report themselves as christians, they lose the quota since then they can't be considered a backward hindu caste anymore. There are other issues with muslims too due to which their population is also undercounted. So, pretty much all the religious census in India is bogus.
