Epic Truck Camping Adventure

In this video I leave Wisconsin to in search of waterfalls. In the Porkey Pine Mountains I found some beautiful hikes, waterfalls and campgrounds. After driving a crazy bumpy trail near Copper Harbor in Michigan I found a little slice of boondocking heaven. The truck camper was more then up to the challenge to concur the trail. In the end I found exactly what I was looking for. Come along for the travel.

That's awesome Vincent. If I can do it, anyone can. Monday through Friday, I work a crappy state job, but the weekends are for the channel. I bought the Arctic Fox many years ago. It's an old camper but gets the job done. The truck is coming up on 200,000 miles and still running strong. I used to watch Taylor Dezman on KZbin, I said i wanted to travel just like him. Now, a few years later and i'm remote camping in the woods. One day, I'd love to make content full-time. Life is too short to spend all of our time working for the man.

If you get a chance, definitely make the trek out there. It was so beautiful. There weren't many people out there. People would drive through on ATV to look at the view and head out right away. I wish I could have stayed longer than a few days.

Say it like “Presk” with a short e vowel. My wife and I love your videos by the way! Look forward to them each week. We are in the market for a TC and passed up a mint 811 of your generation this summer. I thought it was too heavy for a SRW 1 ton, but you do just fine with yours so what do I know. The floor space is crazy for a short bed TC. I know the western UP well, by the way. One of my favorite places on Earth. You should see it in winter on a sled. Almost all of the road and trail you show on this video is a sled trail in the winter.

Love the Porkies! I was there in 2021 and camped out in nearby Ontonagon, Michigan at the Township Park and Campground right on Lake Superior 🌊. I see you also went to Copper Harbor, awesome place!

Thanks, Mark was really cool. I'm leaving tomorrow for a few days, takin a little road trip. My plan is to point the truck south. I'm going to try to boondock as much as possible and hopefully get in a few good walks. I don't want to spend any money other then fuel costs. Unfortunately the mountains are out of the question this time of year.

I agree. I'm wondering if I made a mistake working the sugar beet harvest. It's the best time of year and I'm stuck greasing and oiling harvest pilers....I think I made the wrong choice.

Just starting watching this, on the pronunciation of Presque Isle it's pronounced as if it were spelled "Presk" Isle it's french. There's a city with the same name up in northern Maine where i once lived pretty close to the New Brunswick Canadian Border.

This is my first comment. I just found your channel yesterday. I ordered my 2023 truck camper in December and waiting for it to be ready sometime in the Fall. My wife and I have enjoyed watching your adventures so far. Thanks for the time and effort you put into your videos! That place in Wyoming is definitely on our to do list. This place as well! We have the same attitude as you. We want to be far away from people. We Love backpacking as well for the same reason. I had a question about the onX app. Do you use the off-road version? I use On X Hunt. I think it's 99 dollars a years. I have been using it for a years. It was the only version available when I purchased it. I like it because it gives me parcel information for each piece of land. I can see if the land is public or privately-owned. It gives me the owner name if it is private. Maybe the other versions give the same information, I'm not sure? It is definitely worth the money. I have found some really nice private public lands that I would not have known about. Another awesome video Kenny, the joy of having a truck camper to access areas big rigs can't. Always love the way you narrate your adventures. I bet that water fall roars in the spring. Just curious what type of battery 🔋 setup do you have in the camper?

I'm a simple guy with a simple setup. I still run flood acid batteries. Two 6 volt Crown golf cart batteries. I might step up to AGM in a few years. I think I mentioned the setup in the Generator video. But I don't know how in depth I made it. Or it was the video where I show how I run my AC off the two batteries and an inverter. It's a simple setup. I don't have a lot of cash to install a big solar setup with lithium.

@@KennyOfAllTrades Thanks for the info on AGM batteries, I heard changing by to lithium batteries will result to changing the converter, so AGM are a bit of of cheaper option from lithium. I got my done reconditioned 6v Econo power batteries which turned out to be crap" just looking at my some not crazy expensive option for next year camping. I'll look for your video with the generator setup

That's why I'm not buying lithium yet. Not sure if my current charging system will work. I think I go AGM, probably two 6 volts. I really like Crown Brand. Check them out, a lot of people who were die hard Trojan fans said that after having some issues with poor customer support they now prefer Crown.

Kenny, What year and style is your Arttic Fox, and did you ever consider upgrading?

The camper is a 2004 Arctic Fox m860. I'm hoping to get a few more years out of it. It will be a sad day when I upgrade. The camper feels like home to me. I love looking at campers, and daydream about getting a new one. For date night Mandi and will hit multiple RV dealerships and walk through campers. But that just dreaming. My old Arctic Fox is still giving me awesome adventures every weekend. I don't plan upgrading any time soon, but when I do I'll definitely be leaning towards an Arctic Fox. But I'll also be looking at the Silver Fox, Northern Lite, Lance, and Cirrus. I wish Arctic Fox would use Alzdel rather then Filon though.

Can you show us what you had to do to get your front hauling rack put on for your generator did you have to cut metal to put the thing on

It was very simple. I did have to cut the lower Valance on the front bumper. But it is a piece of plastic. I ordered the front hitch from etrailer. It was a simple bolt-on and took about 45 minutes. Etrailer has installation videos for almost each specific vehicle. If you would like I could definitely show that on a video.

@@renojacks You're RIGHT! It was me! But, I figured out the problem (Yes, Kenny- I TRIED duct tape first!) I was awestruck at Lake in the clouds (Used Google Earth to figure out where you are tho!) and I really enjoyed the view at Summit Peak as well. The walk you took seemed very 'fairy like' with all of the exposed roots, no low shrubbery- very cool looking! Add in the granite that was moss covered, Lac Superior which looked almost exactly like the ocean just a few miles East of me and I definitely NEED to visit the UP in Michigan! Good camping spots and obviously a fun adventure on a Holiday weekend! Surprised at how few people you ran into in most places on a 3 day weekend? Weird, almost like if it isn't Jellystone or Yosemite- nobody can be bothered? Thank you for bringing us along Kenny! I'm devising a way to carry duct tape, WD40 & a multitool at all times- I could prolly fix the space shuttle with the right set up!
