Truck Camping in a SKETCHY FOREST

I used to live in an apartment that when I would be sitting in my bedroom watching tv with my cat and she would hiss and look towards the door, and nobody was there. Heard footsteps on the shag carpet and saw things out of the corner of your eye at night going to the restroom. My husband and I are Christians and we just one day prayed it away using the mighty Name of Jesus. Never thought much about stuff like that until we experienced it there. When you spoke about seeing things out of the corner of your eyes, it took me right back to that apartment. Stay safe out there.

I agree Gene. It is a shame how selfish and oblivious some people are. Unfortunately, this type of behavior will shut these lands down. The state park isn't too far from where I was remote camping. I could see the state saying no more dispersed camping and close the forest to traffic. Then, they will stack us into the stste park campground where we will be accountable for policing or areas. Hopefully that doesn't happen. Thanks for watching the videos!

I just do not understand how people can be so blatantly disrespectful to public lands. It is unfortunate too as many areas throughout the country get shut down every year for camping because of a few jagoff’s (western Pennsylvania slang) a stupid, irritating, or contemptible person. I’m glad you pulled down to the end of the road! When you had the drone up I saw that spot and was screaming at my phone…Kennnyyy down the road further, Kennnyyy down the road further is the spot! Wow Kenny, my Golden Retrievers are better housebroke than some people....if you want to call them that :( Totally disgusting, if they live like that in a public area, imagine how they live at home....sad! Thank you for showing the Miners Memorial. Miners are remarkable people. Tough life. It's great that these men have not been forgotten. As far as hearing voices.........I have had enough "experiences" to not dismiss such things automatically. I was told this story by a BWCA forest service ranger once: He was out checking campsites on a BWCA lake and pulled into a campsite occupied by a 1/2 dozen middle aged dudes. He immediately noticed the poop and toilet paper littering the perimeter of the site. He checked their permit and fishing licenses and then asked “ok guys, what’s with the poop and tp everywhere?” “It was here when we took the site” was their reply. “So, of all the available open campsites on the lake, you chose the one with poop and tp everywhere?” he asked. They then went on to explain that, on the day they got there, one of them had walked back to the latrine and saw a bear, and from that point on they were all too afraid to walk the trail to the latrine in order to poop…

Kenny, I wrote you when you first got started. We came thru MN over the last 3 weeks and visited much of the state. We will avoid that camping area when we visit again. Great video as always. I personally would worry about safety out in the woods alone with sketchy people riding around at 2am. Hopefully you have some kind of protection. The segment on voices at the memorial was creepy. I live near abandoned mines here in northern Colorado, and it can get creepy at times. Anyway, thanks again for sharing your adventures. Thanks John! I agree that it can get sketchy all alone out there. A guy or gal definitely needs to be aware of their surroundings. I gave classes in situational awareness and active shooter response back in the day. It's definitely a crazy world and we need to be prepared for just about anything.

I was fishing down by the river close to there about a week ago and a young man came wondering down behind me through the woods and he seemed sketchy to me. He tried to act friendly but my spidey sense was definitely alerted. Guessing a meth head. Too bad these rural areas have these big city problems too. A good dog would be excellent insurance.

Bro this is such a good video! Love all the epic drone shots and how you used them to tell the story. Haven't had a drone for a few months so you're getting me excited to get my new one. Sad about all the trash, I experience that to a lesser degree often. I pick up what I can which is generally small things that can fit in a trash bag. If I ever get an older truck with a large bed I'll probably hit some spots and pick up a bunch of large trash, turn it into a video and hopefully help inspire others to do the same and make a bigger impact. Just picked up a cheap van for 3k couple days ago that I will be using as my dedicated camping vehicle for couple months until I save some more and upgrade again. Looks like we have some rain coming Sunday night through Tuesday, so that'll be my next video and showing my new van.

If you watch some for Casey LaDell’s videos, you’ll find he helps a group of volunteers that regularly clean up other people’s messes I Oregon. They even haul away cars, trucks, and RVs! The Backcountry Discovery Route people need to establish a Minnesota BDR ... that you can also fat tire run. Starting ~ between Worthington and Jackson. Run north and north east, through all the hardest and remotest of farm backroads, county roads, reservations, state park and forest roads. End at International Falls ... or further east at Grand Portage. Definitely start running and looking at all of the state and forest roads for routing. Run through the maximum amount of the multiple reservations and state park system backroads.

Trash sites infuriate me. Here in the PNW I encounter them frequently. I usually call or email whatever land management there is for that area and let them know about it, giving them the coords, and that Ive packed out what I can, but I cant take out appliances and such. Around here there are huge tracts of Weyerhaeuser land covered in logging roads. For a long time we could use them and even camp on them and as long as you werent in the way, they turned a blind eye. But then there was a bunch of trashing and some people deciding it was a good idea to sue Weyerhaeuser when they did an FAFO. So now much of that is gated off and the state will fine the shit out of you if you pass the gate. When people talk about losing access because people leave trash, its not idle speculation.

It's to bad. This spot is now gated. 800 acres with crystal clear mine pits full of stocked trout. The state sold it to a private individual. It's all gated now.

My Dad's Grandpa was a miner in Colorado and he got "black lung" from working in the mine.

Kenny the sad thing about it is most of the time it's locals and they give campers a bad name. Not all camper care but most I run across do and I myself have cleaned up others mess many times.

Agreed, I know it easy to take places close to home for granted. I live in a small town with multiple museums and parks but rarely visit them. People drive from hundreds of miles away to stay at a State Park close to me....but I've never stayed there....its easy to take places for granted when you drive by them every day......I think that's why I see locals trash their public lands.

Very true. Around Ely the locals think the BWCA belongs to them but if you go back about any logging road there it will be littered with , tires, washers, dryers, refrigerators, carpet etc, . Out of towners didn’t put it there.

Unfortunately, there's a few homeless that stay out there all summer long.. it gets trashed. A few people have organized clean ups in the past but there's alot of traffic out there during the warmer months.

That makes sense. I was checking the drone footage while editing and saw a 2 camps that looked like they were there for a long time. I think the ATV was running between them at night. I live close by but never stayed there. In my younger days I was on the mountain bike trailer every weekend....but that has blown up in the last 10 years, a lot of people in the trails.

Pretty soon the state will be blocking it off to vehicle use. One person owns property at the end of that road. I use to camp there all the time but yah it's getting pretty sketchy this 2 out of the 4 times I tried to stay out there this summer I left in the middle of the night because off sketchy people

@@wingnut628 I could see that happening. I actually checked out that spot on your suggestion.lol I've driven past that road hundreds of times. It's not even a 25 mile drive from my house. I use to ride the bike trails nearly every weekend....but that was many years ago. I was really surprised how big the mouintain bike trails have gotten.

I have been going there for many years and always picked up the site. Unfortunately this year I had to go elsewhere they closed the atv recreational area Silkstone rd is now no trespassing. I'm so bummed.

I saw that!! I even called the land and service office to make sure I wasn't reading that wrong. What an absolute shame. I see the state sold an 800-acre chunk of that state rec forest. I totally get it... I have a more recent video of this forest from last fall. The spot was completely trashed!!! But it was so disheartening to see it's now closed.

Are there any campsites or parks that look out over the shipping lanes on Superior where the ore ships travel? I live very near Bolivar Roads, also known as the Houston Ship Channel. It's interesting to watch the ships passing through the area, especially when they have to pass one another, as the channel is fairly narrow, considering the giant size of the ships.

There's a canal in Duluth, but that is a big town with a lot of people. It's beautiful, especially late at night. They have a lift bridge and locks that are all lighted up.

1920's. bad decade for underground workers. in 1925 a man by the name of Floyd Collins, a Ky cave explorer spent 8 days trapped in the Sand cave that now sits on Mammoth Cave National Park. He Shared the same fate as the miners did. on the 8th day he died of exposure.

Kenny, I know this was uploaded 7 months ago, but I suspect a combination of meth heads, druggies, car thieves, and the homeless etc have used that area to dump stolen stuff, strip cars that were stolen etc. A YT creator, Casey Ladelle helps with the Public Lands Trust I think it's call in Oregon to help clean up public lands of just this kind of stuff, along with pulling out a bunch of stolen vehicles, some stripped out, many trashed beyond driveability and lots of RV's, many of them stolen to live in (and trash) and he volunteers with hauling out the bigger items and automobiles to a holding area to be processed (calling owners and then potentially disposing them once purged from the state system). It's sad, but something to be aware of and do not, I repeat, do not enable them in any way, you'll likely get harmed or they go off and continue to do what they want to do and you will not be helping them, but to continue in their life choices as it is.

I agree with you. Unfortunately, this was an area where people went when they burned all their bridges and no longer have couches to crash on. I was thinking about going back sion. It is beautiful there. It's too bad that it's gone so far downhill. I've watched a few videos from the channel you mentioned. It's amazing how many TONS for trash he has removed from public lands.

Why do you have the RA yet strap hooked to the slide

Great question. Some of the trails I go down are very bumpy. It's not uncommon to have ties off the ground. The RA holds the slide in place, tight against the wall on those bumpy trails. Without the strap, the slide is held in place by the motor mechanism. I'm hoping the RA takes strain off the motor. I've never seen a factory unit supporting the slideout like I do....but I don't think the factories intended the camper going down the forest trails like I do.

That is a dream of mine. I plan one day to hit the road for an extended period of time. I will always keep my place back home. It would be nice to spend a few years traveling the country. I don't think I would ever sell everything in order to make that trip happen. I do have 2 daughters, and although they are older, I would always want to make sure they had a place to come home too.
