Great video. Back in the '80s, a buddy of mine loaned me his 14x6.5 Black Beauty to take out on the road. What a joy!

Your videos are amazing and refreshing. Thanks for the knowledge from a PRO who knows what they are doing. I have been playing for 30 plus years and outside of "crank it up" I have not mastered the tuning process. I will definitely check out your site for more info. Stoked to try this stuff out.

Thank you so much for the kind words. Much appreciated. I’ve learned a lot during 23 years of being a pro drum tech, and I feel it’s important to pass it on. The lessons on my website teach real world knowledge that is road tested, and most importantly dependably repeatable. You WILL learn how to get easily the drum sound you want every time you tune. Here’s a link to this lesson, AND my 3 value priced Annual lesson packs. Thank you for watching. www.kennysharretts.com/video-courses

Kenny, thank you. I wanted to break out my Black Beauty and update it with some fresh heads. I remember seeing this video a while back and looked it up. It gave a solid place to go to, or start from. I did some follow up tweaking on it at a gig and it absolutely came to life. It is an absolute beast of a drum now. This along with my LM 402 are outstanding! Thank you. Wishing you positive vibes brother! 🙏☮️💕🥁🎼

I went a step up and put chrome over brass triple flange on mine and man what an upgrade in tone!!!
@KennySharretts Жыл бұрын
Yeah a brass hoop can add a sweet warmth to the tone. I’ve tried Die-Cast as well on this drum, which tightens up the tone for sure. Thank you for watching. Please check out the full lesson at www.kennysharretts.com as streaming helps to support my channel, and helps you get a wide range of killer tones from your Black Beauty .

I recently got my hands on a Ludwig Black Beauty, but the modern version. Ludwig Black Beauty Hot Rod to be exact. This is honestly one of my favorite snares I own. I'm also running the same heads too. I just like the sound of a dry snare, so that has been my go to for all of the snares I own.
@KennySharretts Жыл бұрын
Yeah the hot rod BB is a sweet drum! I agree that the dryness from the HD dry gets the perfect sound for this drum. Thanks for watching. Please check out the lesson at www.kennysharretts.com as streaming helps to support my channel, and gives you a wicked set of tuning skills in the process.

You should do a video on obtaining the Alex Van Halen snare sound. It’s very challenging. Many people have attempted it on KZbin but have failed. I know you can do it. 👍

Not a bad idea. I’ll look into doing some recreations soon. Still getting my footing after the passing of my wife. I will say Rick Beato did a pretty darn good job on his Alex Van Halen snare sound recreation.

Dude, that whole kit sounds great. The kick drum especially. It cracks and has a tremendous low end. I'm really wanting a Rogers kit. There's a video of David Bowie on the Johnny Carson show from like '81 where he does Life On Mars and Ashes To Ashes. The drummer is playing a Rogers kit and just has this huge, fat tom sound going.

Wow thank you so much for the kind words. I gotta be honest I absolutely love both my new Covington and PowerTone kits . The tone of these drums are simply insane. Thank you for watching.

Kenny sounds so Fantastic . I have a DW Design Series Nickel over Brass 14 X 6.5 Snare - using a Evans HD Dry batter head. But no matter what I do to the tuning , I can't get the sound you are getting. PHAT and solid with no "crackle". When I tune the batter head up hogher - I get this unpleaseant Crackle ? Perhaps I over doing the Table Top tight Reso head? Gotta Love Your Passion, Man.

Kenny love your enthusiasm and playing. I hope to get a black beauty BUT the newer ones have those rubber gaskets under the lugs. Why on earth did Ludwig do this? This obviously takes away that classic tone. So when I get mine I’ll take off the rubber gaskets which my friend did. That HD dru head sounds great! Keep it up Kenny 🥁🥁🥁🤘
@KennySharretts Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the kind words my friend. I can understand wanting the full tone. I think it was done to A. Keep the lug casings from cutting into the shell B. To help control a bit of the ring that comes from the lug casings/tension springs. BITD it was common for drummers to stuff their Ludwig Casings with cotton to kill spring rattle/ring, and dampen the open space in the casing. I actually felt lined my lugs, and put a felt gasket under the tension casings. Best thing I’ve EVER done for this drum. Tightened the tone up “just a touch” , and now engineers in studios/live FLIP over this drum. Thank you so much for watching, and commenting.
