This week is the first time I have heard Venerable Fulton Sheen speak. He is heart warming to listen too. And he died nearly 35 years ago. That is what I call receiving graces from Our Lady and God. They directed me to his videos so I can learn more about God.. That's my belief. Some time back I was directed to Mother Angelica's videos. I never heard of her till a short time ago when I accidentally came across one of her videos on you tube , she died this year on Easter Sunday. She is also heartwarming to listen too.

"you sometimes get a credit for being learned when you are only confusing" Amen, Bishop Sheen, ain't that the truth! What a great reminder to teachers, that to teach means to make things clear and comprehensible!
@melissasaint3283
@melissasaint3283 4 жыл бұрын
@@jeffrygagnon5506 No, they didn't. Did you ever read Mein Kampf? I have a copy. An example of clear and comprehensible and concise writing it ain't. It has an air of mystique, but it's mostly a boring drivel-- Hitler was not a skilled author. And it's huuuuge. He was a persuasive public speaker, who got coaching and enlisted the help of artists, photographers and designers to build the Nazi brand, and he told desperately unhappy people what they wanted to hear, and it changed whenever he needed it to change (which was quite a lot over the course of a few years!) Jim Jones was persuasive but again, that's not the same as being clear. He pretty rapidly changed his theology in the span of quite a short time, and by the end out in Guyana, it was a terrifying, drug-addled jumble that people could not escape. People who originally thought they were joining a Christian utopian commune, a few years later found they were in an Atheist suicide cult. I hate when people say "don't drink the Kool-aid". Most of those people were not true believers by the end. They just couldn't escape. Many were shot to death while running or fighting, or drank at gun point, or drank because they had just seen their children die before their eyes. Awful tragedy. But all this horror aside, the answer is much simpler: you are inverting Sheen's meaning here. What Sheen is saying is that a really good scholar is also a clear scholar. He is saying a mediocre scholar or even a sham can often pass as highly learned by simply being confusing. He is NOT saying that an unlearned or malignant person doing a good job peddling nonsense is a scholar. It's worth noting that Sheen was a prodigy of a student, and a very popular professor for 20+ years before he got a show on television. He wrote over 60 books. He sometimes provides wonderful, illuminating theological insights. In that statement, he is not elevating slick con artists. He is taking down a peg the kind of people who maintain their reputation by making their conversations, articles, books, or lectures as intimidating and confusing as possible. (Those people absolutely exist.) He always disliked it when professors would not do the work to find clear ways to convey information and actually TEACH their students.

@@jeffrygagnon5506 I always hesitate to engage with Jehovah's Witnesses...because someone who knows the Bible, and knows the details about their 1950 translation, is a very problematic person for any Witness to engage with. If a Witness asks enough troublesome questions at or after meetings, and shows signs of having done legitimate research outside what is provided by the organization, he will get himself into trouble. Is your entire family JW? That's always the most difficult situation, I know 😟 Changing your mind on faith can have such consequences for you. I love talking with door to door evangelists in general (Mormons are my favourite, they're almost always so sweet and pleasant) But with JW, it's very easy to give the evangelist information that will cause huge problems for you if you genuinely follow up, and the fallout can be big.

@@jeffrygagnon5506 you've made audacious claims that you do not support. If you regard yourself man enough and not some lesser species, apologise and repent in the way you know best. The Catholic Church was officially recognised in 110AD. In his epistle to the Smyrnaeans, Ignatius of Antioch affirmed her new identity. The need was to distinguish the universal church from the heretical sects which proliferated at that time. Your Roman paganism claim is even more ludicrous because this was a time of heightened persecution. Ignatius of Antioch would in 140AD be martyred by the Romans. The only date you came close, was Rome's conversion in 313 AD. Stop spouting filth, you damn yourself persisting to do so.

You protestants don't read the whole Bible, you read and don't see. from Math.16 to John 51-55 to Luke and on an on what Catholics go by for Eucharist, confession, Mary virgin birth is found in scripture. The Catholic Church obeys what Jesus says, you do not. You have a man who leads you. Jesus founded The catholic church. All priest at daily mass read from old& new scriptures daily. Us Catholics have bibles also. I read mine daily, after rosary which is mediating on the life of Jesus, all scriptural. Don't criticize what you don't know, investigate find out your lies you believe are false. Prayers.
@JeremyFrancispiano
@JeremyFrancispiano 9 жыл бұрын
+ella hope Bless you, but for what merit is your spouting? Do you not see how you sound much like the pharisees of Jesus' day? Even Jesus said, "You read the scriptures daily, for in them you think you have life." Do you not see that the more we quarrel about who has the right walk of faith we only make evident to others that we are doubtful in our own faith? We are all sinners. Our flesh is as filthy rags to God. Only Christ was a perfect man, and our sins were put to an end on the cross he was hanged. Now if you don't really believe that, you might continue in sin by thinking your works are worthy and Christlike, because you pray rosaries and read the Bible and attend confessions. That is not living out faith, that is living out the belief that you will become like Christ in your flesh. But your flesh is good for dead, because your flesh is tarnished by sin! To live in faith does not mean to do good works for the glory of God, it means you believe that only one man has good works, and that is Christ Jesus. And you are made righteous with God by having faith in Christ's work alone. And in our flesh, we cannot perfect good works, but we can love each other. And if you spout out why certain schools of discipleship are unequipped for the Kingdom of Heaven, you too will be judged in the same way, just as I will be judged in the same way for making these judgments about you. But I tell you, I do not want to judge you. I encourage you: Pray your rosaries, participate in the sacraments, follow the Catechism. But when the day of judgment comes, know that your practices are good for nothing. But let Jesus himself be your good works. God's grace was lowering himself to human form so that we no longer had to conform to the law in our flesh for our salvation, but that we might conform to Christ in the spirit (which is our unseen faith). We are made righteous with God by our faith in Christ and the work He did for us. That is the Gospel. Let's try not to complicate it with our human practices, but keep our minds and hearts set on Christ. He is our good shepherd and he will bring home his whole flock! God Bless you!

+Jeremy Francis An intersting way to look at things. Would say its quite interesting that you see Catholics as Pharisee like. My understanding of Jesus speaking to the pharisees is 1 Moses was given the Written law 2 Moses was given the unwritten understanding of the laws which he went into great detail in the three books after exodus that were attributed to Moses. These were the traditions of God as understood by Moses through the grace that he received from Jesus (the word of God) the second person of the holy trinity. 3 Moses received the teaching authority of those scriptures and the throne of teaching authority and if someone couldn't understand then Moses would sit in the chair and teach the correct understanding. Moses was the head of the congregation of gods people and would be the judge of differing undertsatnding of the written and unwritten laws and tradition of Gods and Gods will for mankind. Now the Pharisees came about after the second destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem while in Babylon. They wrote a new understanding of the traditions of God as given to Moses. This book I believe was the Babylonian Talmud (Book Of Jewish Law). It was more a book for bending the laws of God. A bit like how to break the commandments but yet still not actually have broken the word of God. The jews had gone through period of rule by Moses to Joshua to Judges to Kings and the Jewish royal family (Sadducees) to exile to Lawyers (The Pharisees) who bent the rules to suit the rules of men. Jesus referred to Pharisees as men with the traditions of men which ST Paul (Saul the Pharisee) goes into in depth to explain his understanding of the sin that jewish men had swapped the traditions of God for the traditions of men when they created a new book of law that imposed mens will on Gods laws. Now jesus came along and said Moses wrote about the things I told him and I told Moses that men were to love one another and to love god with all their heart soul and mind. Moses through grace translated the positive commandment of god and made it ten rules to NOT commit. But Jesus way explains in words the actual grace Jesus conveyed to Moses on the Holy Mountain. Understanding Grace and the words of God is hard, putting it into written words that humans can understand without confusion is even more difficult. It would require the spirit of God to guide the words. But even then its possible to misunderstand and come into conflict with the authority. Therefore when Jesus gave Peter the keys he gave Peter the authority to Gods Traditions through the deposit of faith placed in the 12 apostles. And the teaching seat of moses was transferred away from Pharisees and the traditions of men to Peter and the Apostles and the traditions of God were installed in the Catholic church to interpret the written word of God the unwritten word of God (Catholic traditions) and the authority on earth to bind and loose through the keys to the WAY to enter Heaven. The church had the authority of God the written word of God and the true traditions of God as taught by jesus to the twelve. Some of the true traditions of God were written down and later became the bible, but not every word of God was placed in written form in the scriptures. Exactly the same deal with Moses chair of authority of god, ten commandments as written word of God and the uwritten traditions of god on Moses heart. Now assuming you read this far. The Pharisees are more like the protestant congregation of christianity in my understanding. For they both reject the traditions of god and replace them with their own interpretation contrary to the true authority of Christ and create the traditions of men. Jesus promised that Satan would not prevail against his church. Protestants proclaim that Satan did infiltrate the church and thats why they had to splinter into their own traditions and create legions of new understandings of the written word. Anyway thats my undertanding. Catholic/orthodox is the church created by Christ. Their are some schisms between undertstanding between orthodox and Catholic and the seat of Authority. Thats anther question altogether. But Protestants argue among themselves which is the correct interpretation. hence the reason Jesus gave teaching authority to his twelve with Peter the Holy father of the twelve. Its very simple system to help keep the faith as close to the true vine as humanly possible. If you cut yourself off from the vine then you need God to graft you back on. And to be grafted back on you need the sacraments of the holy Apostolic church as understood by the church fathers through gods tradition taught directly to the church fathers from Jesus himself the word incarnate. Anyway peace and love to you and I pray that all find the narrow way to God and avoid the highway to hell. Peace be to you.

i john 5: NOTE 3-AGREE..8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. 9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. 10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. NOW BACK UP ONE...8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life....NOW BACK UP TO HEAVEN...NOT EARTH...7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. YOUR ALL BEING DOOPED...Watch my video for the TRUE WITNESS...TRUE 'RECORD'

It is a title given to a deceased person who has attained a certain degree of sanctity but has not been fully beatified or canonized. Praying that soon, Venerable Fulton Sheen will be named a saint.

Assuming you are referring to kenosis, read Philippians 2:7, the greek word used being ekenosen, translated as Christ emptying himself. Kenosis conceptualizes the act of emptying our will and replacing it with God's will. The passage talks about Christ taking the form of a slave in the likeness of man. As a logical extension, we empty ourselves in the service of humanity, obeying the will of God. If you need proof for his anecdotes, I'm afraid you have to ask him when we meet in heaven, if ever we get there!

@@cynic150 the 'we' was intended to include him. His canonization has been put on hold, so as a catholic, there is no way for me to comfirm his sainthood. By the way, it's always a pleasant surprise to find a cynic in the neighbourhood. Hope you find what you seek!😉

@@wenshan9101 Thanks! Well, canonization is something bestowed by human mortals, isn't it? So even if he were canonized that would not prove he was in heaven, would it? I will admit that he was really good at telling jokes and had many good ones! I do think a sense of humour important.
@wenshan9101

@@cynic150 catholics are bound once canonization is upheld. Anyone outside the Catholic Church need not assent though they may induct the saint into their communion. Since direct evidence is impossible to adduce, you are not wrong to say it's a human decision. But the cause for sainthood involves investigation and adjudication. Anyone with damaging evidence is entitled to object. Furthermore, miracles attributed to the subject's intercession must be adduced. In an oblique and circumstantial manner, catholics are convinced that a person's sainthood may be divinely revealed. If you search for St. Pio of Pietrelcina, there are accounts of healings that are beyond modern medicine. I would say more than just the humour, was a critical, incisive, powerful mind that delivered a knockout punch every time. Catholics like me come here to be punished for our lapses.
