I’ve been listening to coaches online for years. But when I found Ken I quit everyone. This guys info is gold So genuine and The proof is in the singing. His girls are amazing. And the best part is that those girls never thought they could do some of the material they are doing. It can happen and I’m convinced I can and will successfully do STEELHEART Never Let You Go

I love how much you talk about vocal health. It is so important and I don't hear nearly enough vocal teachers talk about it. I myself suffered from primary muscle tension dysphonia so no damage to my folds or anything but it took years of training with a teacher who was well educated and knew what she was doing to get my singing voice where it is today and now three years later I can sing 100 times better and I don't suffer with it like I did. Vocal health/hygiene and proper technique are so important so thank you soooo sooo much for talking about this topic it is extremely important and so helpful.

I know this comment is 2 years old, but hopefully you see this. I've been trying to find out what's wrong with my voice for over a year. My ENT says I have laryngitis caused by acid reflux. He gave me antacid pills which didn't help at all. I also raised the head of my bed. Now he thinks an esophagus band is necessary to stop the reflux. Is there any info you could give me from your experience? I want to trust my ENT, but I don't think I actually have reflux.

Great video. The only thing I'd change is that air con dehumidifies the air which is why it dries you out. There's enough gas transfer between inside and outdoors that you don't have to worry about gas buildup unless you're in a basement or some other lower than ground place where heavier than air gasses can sink to if there isn't proper ventilation.

A bit late onto this video but it was amazing, All of these tips are things that I try to impliment and have helped me as well. One thing i would like to say is, if you have a hoarse voice or your voice is tiring and these tips aren't helping, go to a voice therapist or specialist or a highly trained teacher. They will be able to find issues behind this as well that you won't realise. For me this was jaw tension linked with tongue tension which led to throat tension. Also if you love your coffee, try going to decaf coffee and then slowly going down to maybe a cup a day. Thanks so much ken.

I actually have problems with eating plant based proteins, so I have to eat like slender meats like egg, chicken, pork (I cut away the fat) and it's all produced in Sweden and free from antibiotics. If meat is inflammatory, can't a healthy regime of exercize, ginger and tumeric, along with lot of fruit and vegetables, help conquer the inflammatory process making it neutralized? I really listen to you and appreciate your advice. I bought a crosstrainer to become more fit - work my caridovascular system as well as my muscles at the same time. And I can use it watching your livestreams or movies or whatever during the same amount a time, so the exercize in itself is worked in into the schedule. It makes training so much more accessable. So that's my tip for a lot of people around the world that has to stay indoors, or works a lot. Have a go-to-exercize that you can do anytime you want. That way you can just do a little to keep the blood flowing every hour, like 5 minutes and hour. If you do 5 minutes an hour, at the end of the day it will be like 60-80 minutes alone. If you then add doing 15-30 minutes watching your favorite series on Netflix, I think you'll be on a good start. And if I can do it, I am sure almost anybody can do it too. I know that you know what you are talking about when it comes to singing. Really loved those gentle warm-up exercizes for the morning. I will definately try that.

Your so correct, you can also sit mushrooms in the sun, later eat the mushrooms, our body is able to absorb vitamin D .aside from sun on our skin, I don't think D supplements absorb literally into our body .same with B12, supplements , waste of time unless iron and folic acid levels are sufficient.thankyou so much for this video, I'm inspires..less sugar, less coffee, less dairy for me

@@jacobdionne4334 He understands enough to understand that AC dries the air and in so doing; does affect the hydration of the body and therefore affects the voice. For some people that affect may be miniscule but, for others it is major. For me, AC set at 75 degrees is annoying enough that I will wear a light jacket to keep the air off my arms. Ken, I have turned 60 and I used to have a good voice but the worst is when in Joburg Biking Church I have a little bit of a problem of playing bass guitar and keeping my mind on some of the riffs and sing at the same time. Just wished I knew about you a few years earlier. What is the length and price of a course from you? and being stone broke at present because of investing in a company (jewelry manufacture) and the owner passed away so the estate lawyers grabbed everything, .and for 15 months I have been fighting in court to at least get my money back to pay the bank back on the loan I made to purchase the company. Now I have terrable threats from the bank's lawyers almost daily. I would just like to know where you studeo is in America.

Would you say a drastic change in habits can actually make your voice state worse? I drink energy drinks regularly. A few glasses of water at work and a tea or something similar and then when I get home I like a can of energy or a soda. I do have a dry voice pretty quickly, but when I decided to drink 2+ liters of water per day my voice instantly dried out at rehearsals and I had to stop singing after half a song. I returned to soda and it worked again. Do you recommend gradually changing out things like these and diet so your body can adapt to it?

Awesome video Ken! I’ve been singing for about 2-3 years now with a really good teacher. I’ve gotten better but have lots of room for improvement. I follow just about all of your advice from this video: lots of exercise, good sleep, nutrition, staying hydrated, limited alcohol. But every so often (maybe once or twice a week) I lose crispness, clarity, ease etc. I can still sing, it just feels harder. I’m wondering if its vocal cord inflammation. My vice is that I drink 1, sometimes 2 small coffees per day, but I also drink almost a gallon of water per day. Could the coffee be causing this? Or is it more likely a fatigue issue. I practice singing for an hour almost every day. Thanks again!

So recently I went to the ENT doc because my voice has been hoarse with alot of extra mucus for past few months. It caused issues with middle, falsetto and head voice. He ran the scope and said my sinuses are good, no polyps but the back up my throat near esophagus was swollen. He put me on prescription pepcid saying I must be having reflux at night. I went to primary and said my symptoms aligned with dysphonia. He said watch what you eat before bed, put me on pantoprazole and said hopefully in a month acid will reduce and inflammation should go down. What does it feel like? kinda like you a little chest congestion and most of the symptoms of dysphonia. Now mind you I never have done much vocal warm ups (i know i should I am getting older) and been pushing my voice to hard so prob my fault. What do you recommend from your experience?

Afraid of starving? This idea comes from the fact that the standard 'food' patterns of modern people tend to be bereft of nutrients and jacked with all sorts of questionable chemistry. Thus one's hunger is never satisfied. I've been dialing in plant based whole food for over 20 years. It only gets better. I find that when my food is nourishing and high in nutrition I can go without food longer and not feel hungry, or spaced out, or weak at all. This gives my tubes time to rest between work loads. The mitochondria work their little asses off every time we eat. And when whole fruits, seeds, vegetables provide my cells with all the materials to build their houses in a way that doesn't easily fall down in a storm, plus good fats and carbs to feed the mitochondrial workers who put all the stuff together, and take apart the broken pieces, they don't constantly scream for something else to eat.

Blueberries, pumpkin seeds, apples, oranges. Yum. This instead of candy bars. Even most 'nutrition' bars are jacked with sugars and chemistry. Lara only has nuts and fruit. It's one of the only ones. Go Raw is another. Organic might be more spendy, but again if you eat nourishing food your cells aren't constantly screaming for something else to eat. Also, me no doctor. All this comes from my own experiments on myself.

ken i dont if you'll see this but at least i'll try. i've been singing for a year and half now and i still struggle with tension in my throat. i've tried so many things: always support, keep my throat open, articulate, lots of water, putting a pencil between my nose and my upper lip and try to sing/speak "above" the pencil. sometimes these things seem to work but at the end of the day i keep tensioning. maybe i'm doing something wrong? i don't know what else to try :(

I drink 1 cup of coffee every morning to give me some energy for work. Should I stop drinking it to take better care of my voice? I DO want to become a professional recording artist someday.

Caffeine causes dehydration. If you're going to drink coffee, or anything that dehydrates, i.e. alcohol, coffee, tea, sugar, you need to make sure you are replenishing with plenty of fresh water.
