This video takes an in-depth look at the style and artistry of George Michael on one of his biggest hits, Careless Whisper... with ISOLATED VOCALS!
George Michael - Careless Whisper - Isolated Vocals - Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy
I received quite a few requests for George Michael and Careless Whisper isolated vocals.
I have also done three different versions of this song on my channel: one with myself ( • Careless Whisper - Wha... ), one with Kayla Reeves ( • George Michael - Carel... ), and one with my student Vinny ( • BEFORE And AFTER - 7 M... ).
The interesting thing about this song is that it is so signature George Michael that it's virtually impossible to get it to sound like him.
So we stopped trying, ha, ha, and decided to have it sound like ourselves instead :-)
In this particular isolated vocal version, we break down various aspects of George's voice and the incredibly talented singer, musician, and artist that he was.
And we tried to not be too careless about it!
Come along and join us for the ride with this incredible artist!

George Michael was unmatched in the industry. Just so sad Sony screwed him over and robbed us of many years of productivity from this once in a 100 year artist.

Vocally, George was absolutely flawless and he had the song writing ability to match too. He really was in that super elite league of iconic artists whom there are only a handful. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say a bad word about him. That’s how captivating his music, his voice and his legacy is… anyone and everyone can love it. He was one of those genuinely decent and kind human beings too. The anonymous things he did for charity speak to the integrity of the man. There’ll never be another George. Ever.

This rocker here was raised on everything. My maternal grandparents were into the Rat Pack, the Andrew Sisters, anything orchestral, big band and country. My paternal grandparents were into country western like Hank Williams and Merle Haggard. My parents listened to the Beatles, Elvis, the Ramones, Zeppelin, Chrissy Hynde and the Pretenders, Zap and Roger, Michael Jackson. There’s probably a million more but I don’t have room to type them all.

The truth is Everyone likes a bit of George Michael, even people who don't consider themselves a fan still like some of his songs. It doesn't matter what music you're into, rock, country, hip hop, soul, dance, there's a George Michael song you like. Careless Whisper for example, has universal appeal.

Few singers could add up to Michael. The worst part is, it sounds so easy. Like nothing at all. But try to sing his songs, they are crazy high, and so hard to do. That is the genius behind his voice. The ease and lack of strain. Soft like silk, on killer high notes!

George’s voice is like butter wrapped in silk. So smooth and clear. The vulnerability and emotion that he exudes with every lyric gives me goosebumps. He draws you in to the story he’s telling you, and you feel like you’re living it. That is a rare, rare gift. George is and always will be my favorite vocalist and songwriter. I’m so fortunate to have seen him perform live a few times. He had an impeccable vocal ability which filled the venue.

George Michael is such an underrated singer & songwriter. He wrote this song with just 17 and this while is was sitting in a bus. His velvet voice and his songs are timeless. And all of this was without auto-tune just with pure talent.

George Michael underrated as a singer & songwriter? That's a first. He's considered one of _the_ best pop singers ever. Careless Whisper and his duet with Aretha Franklin put everyone on notice. And when Careless Whisper was a hit it was a well-known fact the he had written it on his own, people were mentioning that bit ad nauseum, and he was getting a _lot_ of praise for the lyrics. And then came his other solo albums that were all critically acclaimed. Generally he's considered a real musical powerhouse.
@rosemiller2990

Perhaps underrated in the US because he stepped away from the market in the late 80s, and rarely played on the radio. People in the US didn’t grow along with him as he developed keener writing skills and more beautiful vocals than ever. Of course if you were a hard-core Music enthusiasts you followed his career and you saw what an amazing beautiful vocalist and songwriter he was.

I believe George was only 17 years old when he wrote this song, during Wham tour when he use to perform Careless W. That’s when the rest of the band realised he meant to be a pop star on his own cuz the reaction he got from the audience was incredible they all knew it only matter of time before started his solo career. I’ve been a GM fan since the first Wham album come out til today. I used to be teased “ bullied “ cuz I was listening to GM the same time as I was listing to rock and heavy metal I really enjoyed this video and can’t wait for more to come. 🤟

Absolutely loved him. Spot on with auto tune. I miss the organic sound of the singers I grew up with. Agree with his silky approach in setting the scene. There wasn't anything George Michael did that wasn't worked out, thought-out and perfected out to the nines. That is one of the many reasons he was an utterly brilliant singer and songwriter, producer and a performer. I don't know anyone who even had this level of talent... And somebody please don't say Prince because I don't think you can compare the vocals.

GM is telling his audience a story melodiously from his heart that is why some "flats or sharps" are there to make it the emotion organic. Great artist, song, lyrics and melody made this song an icon that will last the test of time. If the great pyramids were made of stucco, we will only have our imagination to interpret what we see today.

I just don’t quite understand how he came up with all that as a teenager. Y’know? And the song meant so little to him as he got older that he didn’t feel a connection to it. He only sang it at shows because he knew his fans wanted to hear it. Anyway, thanks for that breakdown. George will forever be my favorite singer.

Wonderful video! IMO one of the all time greats! My mom had Elvis Presley and I had Wham! and George Michael. I experienced several special moments in my life w/ George Michael's music playing in the background. Moments I will NEVER forget! In 1985 as a graduation present I was able to attend a Wham! concert in FL which is still one of the best nights of my life. Several years later I saw George live again during his "Faith" tour... AMAZING! He sounded just as incredible live as he did on the albums at both concerts. His beautiful voice/music will always be apart of my life.

George Michael is one of those artist that you could simply feel the emotion in everything he did. There are only a few artists that were able to write with such a poetic justice that you just have to appreciate, regardless of how you feel about them. George Michael, Meatloaf, Michael Bolton, Richard Marx -- these are people that are phenomenal at what they do. It's a shame that they were so unappreciated by so many people.

George Michael’s phrasing was exemplary plus the words he wrote were just so well crafted and written around the phrasing. When you listens to his songs and compare them to other artists, you’ll realise that his lyrics are short, spaced out almost poetry-like, telling an intimate story. Pure genius that flows through pretty much everything he wrote. Hard to believe he wrote this song at 17 on the bus home from school…..

Ken, I watch all your videos, and your vocal analysis of George Michael is my favorite video of yours by far (and I am not that big of a George Michael fan). The love you have for his vocals jumped off my TV and into my living room! I learned so much from you in this video. Great job!! 👍

He left the world so soon, I love his performance with Queen cover of Somebody to Love, better than the original

Absolutely about auto tune. The natural ebb and flow of his flow is fantastic

I'm self thought guitarist and singing by the way. This is among first songs I tried to sing, and learned the hard way that is not for beginners.😀 Compliments for isolated vocal analysis.

Hey Ken, huge metal fan here!! But this has been a favorite song of mine since it was released!! The lyrics and song writing of this is amazing!! The lyrics just take you into the moment and is just a masterpiece for sure!! Thanks for covering this!!! Just great stuff! Also really hate those auto tune artists!! Just be real, if you can’t sing then find something else to do with your life!! If your voice is good enough then just sing it!!! Don’t get me started ….. lol

A voice that was as smooth as ice cream! I remember when this song was originally credited to Wham featuring George Michael here in America because they had just broken big here with Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go.
