I think an underrated quality is winter color, especially like here in Chicago where its a good chunk of year. The bluegrass seems to be the winner in this category I believe.

My Kentucky St.Bluestine is popping all the neighbors keep asking about the yard. If they only knew the full story. It's an experiment and went full send with it. Either way it will help me hit some goals. Should be interesting how long it can hold up in West Central Flordia. Heat has already kicked in and it's loving life. Depending on how things go might do an over seed in October. Last spring the rye couldn't hang. End goal is zoysia but figure we'll play around till the soil gets there. Gotta love living in a sand box.
@LlyleHunter
@LlyleHunter Жыл бұрын
Have you considered continuing along with the variety of bluegrass you’re using every year and adding an equal amount of Bermuda grass seed as a blend since they have different dormant seasons and similar appearances. Also both are kneading and creeping grasses with similar maintenance programs whereas zoysia’s maintenance is much more complex because of the way it creeps.
@79mini
@79mini Жыл бұрын
@@LlyleHunter definitely not doing Bermuda I got enough of the wild verity that I don't care to have at all. The blue grass is part of a bigger strategy but the end goal is Zoysia. I manage turf daily so my yard is just a big playground but a way to test theories and ideas.

Love seeing the videos. Keep them coming! Greening up over here in Madison WI but now big snow dump for Thursday. 2 questions if you are bored and have the time. My yard is sodded black beauty tall fescue (has 3 types of tall fescue and 1 type of bluegrass that makes up 10% of the mix). Recommendation for over-seeding? I don’t want to do the effort of switching completely but would like to get some new texture into the mix and possibly a better lawn for lawn stryping. Lastly, I have 13,000sqft of lawn and my current Honda walk behind takes too long for how often I want to mow. I’ve looked at the toro timemaster a lot but haven’t seen it in your videos for a bit. Are you still enjoying/recommending the machine or have you parted ways with it? Hope you’re doing well!

Just my .02...we always waited until the new grass got to around 3", before we mowed it...never bagged it.....also, if u needed to use straw in your area...once the seedlings start coming up around an 1" or so....lightly rake up some of the straw...too much will begin to smother the new grass...always spread milorganite over newly seeded areas....quickens germination & 100% safe...25 years country club golf course experience

Since Kentucky bluegrass spreads through the ground, could you use some plugs in combination with over seeding to help that turf thicken up? I’m in Canada with a later spring and very hot summers too, 100 degrees freedom units is common for my summers. I’m considering growing my own plugs inside under lights to help speed things up in the spring
@ryanknorrlawncare
@ryanknorrlawncare Жыл бұрын
Yes you can move plugs into areas that you want to fill in. Just know that bluegrass is not extremely fast at spreading so give it some time but that plan will work.

Experts: KBG does well in full sun. My Lawn: 15 hours of sunlight with no shade. In summer time it feels like no amount of water stops this grass from checking out. The best bet is a mix of rainy and overcast days. So far we've been getting almost exclusively sun and its been brutal on the lawn. That said, in the fall it does recover so well its like magic.
