Man I hate seeing all the closed racetracks around the country. Dale jr’s lost speedways is a great show. Our beloved Brown County Speedway has been closed almost 15 years now. Another great video!

Another great road trip with the Wise Guy! All the little towns seem to of been kept up enough to show some life. That is nice to see. The race tracks had big crowds and great competition back in the day. But the tracks have really been dying out in the last twenty years or so. Have seen several that still had good crowds go by the wayside. I think several died out more to towns growing out into their area, and then zoning, taxes, and land prices put the final squeeze on them. Just as with the small towns we see highlighted on this channel, time has really changed the look of our communities in many ways.

@@pettythief43 It is in the books, and no one can ever take that away from you! Job well done. Do you still race since then? I knew fellows my age, and they had a hard time giving it up. Some were running the sportsman class stick cars, and another batch were running B class sprinters. Both of those classes were dropped at the same time. Three friends; one ran sportsman, one ran B sprint, and the third ran IKF gocarts, banded together and made a gocart track out in a creek valley. It went great for a number of years with all the displaced racers buying carts and racing. I moved away and only know the track is no longer used. They even hosted an IKF dirt national one summer. Must of just withered away like the ghost towns.

You realize that no matter where you travel we're all really not that different. Another great video. I got my sticker today! Thank you for offering these. West Ky raceway was/is owned by Jason Hays who lives in Cunningham Ky and owns Hays Backhoe and Concrete. He’s on Facebook. They raced anything from 3 wheelers to souped up rails. Sadly it didn’t get enough support to keep it going. Not sure what year it opened but I remember watching races there in the late 70’s.

I enjoyed the video but I wouldn’t call any of the towns as ghost towns. I drove through Ballard County twice this week on my way to & from Kansas. The Mississippi River counties are special with the bluffs overlooking the rivers. The area was the starting point of the Union Army invasion of the South. Read the book Grant Moves South for some great context. Also check out the Columbus Belmont State Park just down the road to see the chain used to attempt to control the river during the war.

When I was a kid in 70's, the baseball team I was on traveled to Lovelaceville to play a team there. We beat the crap out of them, and the Lovelaceville parents weren't happy about it. By the end of the game it got ugly, and they were trying to fight our parents. We had to high tail it out of there. It was like something out of a movie. That should give you a good idea about that place back then.

My relatives lived in and near Lovelaceville. My cousin raced motorcycles at the track. Nice people, but if you had any ambition and got an education, then you had to leave the area to get a suitable job. Westvaco was a good Ballard County employer since the mid 60's, but it has closed fairly recently. Both of my grandfathers were tobacco farmers in the Lovelaceville area, but one rarely sees tobacco fields or the smokey tobacco barns anymore. Great fishing and hunting in the area. Duck hunting is great in the many small lakes and ponds of Ballard County.
