I agree with your assessment of the Kuat rack. I love the ease of use and the versatility the add on gives us.

I've had a 4-bike Kuat NV for about 8 years and it has served me well. Whenever anything on it has broken I have always been able to get parts and repair it. I do have to play a little fore-aft tetris to keep the bars from contacting each other or the brake levers. I think the latest Kuats allow you to adjust the height of the front wheel trays so you can probably adjust this once and not deal with it again. I am about to convert it down to a 2-bike rack and put it on my daughter's car. I have purchased a 6-bike hanging rack from Velocirax.

I am considering a rack upgrade so your video is timely, Nathan. Thanks for a review and good look at the Transfer V2. I will keep it in mind as I look at other options.

Great detail on this video, I'm picking one up today and it was very helpful to see the hands-on usage.

I bought my Kuat rack 6 years ago. Right out of the box it had a stripped screw that I had to modify and repair (faster for me to fix right than warranty it). Definitely disappointed with that considering the price. I find it heavy, but versatile... I've used the built-in bike stand any number of times. The ratchet arms hit the crowns, which I don't like at all, but they're secure. The cable locks are a nice feature, but the locks suck... way too finicky. And the tire straps ratchets are starting to skip teeth too. I'm not sure I'd buy another one, but I have not been looking around at new racks considering their price. Always lock the front tire first... that rear strap will not hold the bike vertical if you lose grip on the bike. Thanks!

Thanks for the video! I bought a Thule Helium platform bike rack last year, and while it’s a nice rack, I’m kicking myself for not considering how it would accommodate my touring bike, which has a rear pannier rack. The Thule Helium arms have to make contact with the tops of both tires, and the pannier rack on the touring bike blocks the rear tire. From your video, it looks like with the Kuat rack, this shouldn’t be an issue.

I am considering the 1 bike v2 transfer rack for a ebike that weighs 55 lbs. How do you think it would handle the weight? I know they rate it for 60 lbs. but since its getting close to the max limit I was concerned about the 1 1/4 inch size with the adapter. thanks for a gr8 video.

Where can I get one of those Kentucky cycling jerseys???
@KentuckyCycling11 ай бұрын
We have Kentucky Cycling merchandise in the form of t-shirts, caps, stickers, and patches available for purchase at www.kentuckycycling.org/merchandise. The only Kentucky Cycling jerseys that we have were a limited run as a team kit for the folks that I ride with.

can you lock the rack to your hitch? any security to keep someone from taking the entire rack off with tools?
@KentuckyCyclingАй бұрын
There's not a hitch-pin lock on this rack. But, there are on some of the more expensive Kuat racks.

Does this use a thru pin in addition to the hex bolt ?
@KentuckyCycling2 ай бұрын
@@JitinMisra Yes. The through pin serves as a back up acetylene to the hex bolt that tightens doe the ball.

@@KentuckyCycling I bought a 1 up quick rack for a 1.25 receiver. I love it, but it has no thru pin..just ball expansion…I.m having second thoughts
@KentuckyCycling2 ай бұрын
@@JitinMisra The ball expansion works really well, but it’s nice knowing owing there’s a back up to it, just in case.

Is there reason why you chose this over a Kuat Sherpa or Kuat NV?
@KentuckyCycling5 ай бұрын
They’re both solid racks. I like the lightweight nature of this rack and the flexibility it afforded me to between different sized vehicles. It’s also a little less expensive.

Security with bike racks are an after thought anyone who has taken the time to learn anything does not even think of a wire loop as security for a bike, they might as well not be there at all.
@KentuckyCycling9 ай бұрын
I think its primary purpose is to serve as a visual deterrent. I don't view it as security for leaving bikes on a car overnight, but I do think it serves it's purpose pretty well for security for stops when traveling with a bike.
