Those were very cool in there day. The early 80s' you could see the manufacturers embracing the "new" high-tech look vs the older slide tuners, etc. Very nice unit and thanks for sharing.

Receivers are and always were compromise between a Tuner and an Amp. Most of Europe is now enjoying DAB radio so our principle interest is in quality amplifiers. Time for America to catch up.

Actually, that's not correct and I'm not sure why you're comparing a trip down nostalgia road (that Kenwood came out in 1982) to today's receivers and DAB radio? A look at many of the vintage receivers from roughly that era, early Marantz models, and of the Pioneer SX series, Harmon Kardon, etc, and there was little to no compromising between the tuner and amp sections. Maybe in some today there is, but not necessarily in the build quality of many of the vintage models.

While older receivers were undoubtedly well built with good quality sound, DAB as found all over Europe in homes, in cars etc (yet rarely found in America) is patently an advance over the analogue broadcasting and reception of those older receivers. Huge choices in programming, reception always free of any and all possible interference all make for good listening. Consequently there is in Europe not the same level of interest in 40/50 year old receivers, far less which is claimed to be better or worse than others. All that said there are modern receivers with DAB if people want them. For the record, I have 1x Technics tape deck, 2x Technics CD players and 4 Technics amps around the: house, workshop, study and garage. In one situation an amp is still driven by my Pioneer 12D Turntable.
