Tyla never claimed to be a black woman. She’s always identified as a colored woman, which in South Africa means being multiracial (she’s Indian, Irish, and black), but whenever she would say that prior to the breakfast club, she would get dragged either for using the term colored due to the history of that word in America, or she would get accused of not being proud of being black. Why should she identify as black if she’s not a full black person?
@flo4546
@flo4546 26 күн бұрын
Ive noticed a significant amt of Black Americans behave as if they have the right to dictate blackness all over the world. Many foreigners don’t identify as black b/c everyone around them is black. Black is only black in proximity to whiteness. Hence why South Africa has the racial identities they have. Most black countries identify by tribes, or ethic groups. On Social media there’s a lot of discourse about blackness and it comes off like Americans prefer conflict and not resolution. If you ain’t a descendant of American slavery you ain’t black “ADOS”, I’ve heard ADOS ppl say the majority of slaves did not come from Africa. They were indigenous to this country and mixed in with a few Africans then reclassified as African due to being black. I’ve heard blk ppl say if a person is biracial they aren’t black, they say if a biracial’s mother isn’t black they aren’t black, they also bash ppl for identifying as biracial and not black, then they also have some that say if if bi or multiracial’s don’t present as black they aren’t black. So why should Tyla continue to explain herself.
@ToriOfTheNile
@ToriOfTheNile 25 күн бұрын
Idk when it’s gonna click for black Americans that they continue to be the ones perpetuating the one drop rule, and us black people from majority black countries often just don’t see things the same way. And why would we? Black people are not a monolith, and black Americans are not and can never be the spokes person for all black people 🙄
@faith2960
@faith2960 25 күн бұрын
What you are saying is common sense! What is so difficult for Americans to understand. South Africa has different races and tribes, in SA we are more pressed over tribes than race because tribes tie into socialization and upbringing than race. We don't care about the 1-drop rule in SA because it takes more than proximity to blackness to be black here.

I think one thing people don't understand is that coloured have a culture they aren't simply biracial. In South Africa there's a difference between having a black and a white parent to actually being coloured. During apartheid coloureds where also segregated like black and indian people and over the years they have created a culture of their own. There are townships (ghetto areas) made of a mostly coloured population they have their own venecular, food, music and even fashion sense. In other terms they have their own culture which is different from the average black or white South African. There is a stark difference between a coloured and mixed person in South Africa. Obviously not every coloured was raised in the townships but even visually coloureds look different from mixed people.(obviously I'm being biast as a South African who has grown up around coloured people so foreigners might not notice) the physical difference being a large majorty of coloured people chosing to have children with coloured people. That means these are entire generations made purely of mixed people have children with other mixed people. Most coloureds I know entire family is coloured and the only white person or even black person (I'm not saying they are not black but you get the jist of what im saying) in the lineage is from 4 or even 5 generations back. So in conclusion Tyla is coloured . And I get why the Breakfast club interview has was off putting but it is the same question in every interview explaining the same thing. Tyla has never denied her blackness as she has stated she is black multiple times and also did state this in her Instagram after the interview. But she is also a coloured person. Which is nuanced I understand but she is representing her people. You may not know this but in S.A. there aren't many prominent coloured musicians let alone female star's. The South African music genre is dominated by mostly black South Africans with the occasional white star. Coloured people aren't common in music and even media. There aren't many well know coloured polititians, actors or musicians. So for coloured people Tyla is the representation they don't often see so she has to represent. I get that she has to be palatable to the American audiences bit she also has to represent her roots. Anyway sorry for the rant a I love your videos you perfect match reviews are my favourite because I've seen other KZbinrs trifling asses trying to act like they don't see the anti blackness in these shows 😩😮‍💨. Keep up the uploads and you should really get moderatorsfor your lives because there are a lot of trolls.

I don't use shea moisture hair products anymore because there's better items on the market. At one point during my natural hair journey, shea moisture was one of the only lines that kinda sorta worked for me. But since then, I've discovered Camille Rose Naturals, Curls, and Melanin Hair Care. The only item that I purchase from shea moisture anymore are their hair masks. Those are fabulous! In regards to the Fenty versus Cecred debate, I'm not buying from either of them and I love both women. As a natural hair girly, I need a leave-in and a twisting cream. Neither one of them has that. And if I'm being honest, I don't like any of the hair companies made by celebrities including Tracy Ellis Ross, Gabrielle Union, and Taraji...I'm sorry. I've purchased from all of those brands and returned them returned them. Not enough moisture, slip, and it doesn't define my curls at all. But y'all can argue over which billionaire is more relatable or just buy whatever works for your hair.

Tyla is not being promoted as a Black woman. I don’t know where that came from. Americans need to realize that not everyone follows their classifications of race. She is a coloured woman and she’s been saying that!! Now yall forced her to call herself a Black woman when she’s not. I think it’s about Western supremacy, also. I’m glad she didn’t answer and her team protects her. Yall wanna make sure you’re promoting black women, but there are so many biracial women in the rap/music industry that yall support. This is ridiculous. It’s weird that all of a sudden Tyla has to be Black. And then, yall don’t support the Black women, either 😂😂 Normani, case in point. what’s really going on.

I am so happy you touched on the Tyla situation and hit the nail on the head. We literally had to create spaces for us as Black people to have a voice and create opportunities for ourselves here in America. We had to fight tooth and nail for that. We want to make sure that we are prioritizing our own in those spaces. I'd rather prioritize and give a seat to Women like you simply because you identify with what I identify with and you are in alignment with our agendas and what is needed to progress not only yourself but progress other black women in those space. If you do not even see yourself as Black how can I trust you to go into not only Black spaces but also none Black spaces to advocate for us and open doors for us? There is a responsibility that comes with being Black in America and if you don't understand that then why should you have a seat at the table? How does your success benefit the collective, because that is really what this is about at its core.

Jesse, I think that when it comes to your music, you are in the best place. You have an advantage over a Normani or a Coco Jones, both of whom I really love their voices and their music. But you have your own audience. And I’m so glad you recently started a membership. When you own your own audience, you can do so much more, and you already know this! So keep doing you. Keep building your audience. Keep building your membership. Keep building your newsletter and staying in touch with your subscribers. Having your own platform allows you to do so so much! When a label does not see an immediate return on their investment, they are ready to drop you like a hot potato. And then those artists don’t know how to cultivate their own audience after the fact. You are right where you are supposed to be!🎉

Tyla is being marketed to Americans. She is not being marketing to Black women only. She is being marketed to young women, women of color and young men of all races 🤷🏾‍♀️

Regarding Tyla. I think that she doesn't want to answer those questions because she's answered them many times in the past, and ppl have twisted her words and turned it into something she didn't say OR didn't mean as she navigates through cultural differences. As a black American woman, I'm saying that TYLA IS NOT BLACK AND THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT. She went her whole life as a coloured woman, it's tough for ppl to tell you to be different. The girl looks more Indian than Black anyway. Ppl need to stop.

I understand why Americans are confused but the backlash is weird and starting to feel like you guys are a bit xenophobic. Its really not that surprising , the girl looks more Indian than black, like c'mon. Also Americans like to spread misinformation about SAfrica alot, Asians aren't considered white, they are considered Asian. Guys if you are so interested use google or watch a youtube video or tiktok by South Africans. Also the unrest in Kenya is about taxation. Do your research. Anibe Serious !

I stopped using Shea moisture years ago. When they first sold the company, the products changed. They started putting in all the ingredients that I didn’t want, the reason why I had turned to shea, moisture in the first place. They are a hard no for me, and have been for years.
