My personal experience is that in Kenya they think light skinned women are "white" and that has been very disheartening. Other than that, I love the weather in Kenya, it's perfect. Kenya has more diverse food options, most definitely agree.
@JayFocused7 ай бұрын
Interesting. I never noticed that but 'lightskin' has a wide range, especially in Africa. Michael B Jordan would be lightskin in the Congo or Uganda but not in South Africa or America. So it's hard to know what complexion they consider 'white' in your opinion in Kenya. Alicia Keys, Sade and Beyonce could all be described as lightskin, but they have very different shades. While the first 2 have white parents, the last one doesn't.

@@JayFocused personally I’m a light skinned woman from America. I’m slightly lighter than Beyoncé with black parents. I was called a white woman in Ghana often…we lived there for a year… so when we moved to Nairobi 3 months ago…I noticed the same looks so I started asking. And they literally have told me that they feel that I am a white woman. I guess I’m only one experiencing it.

As a Ugandan who has lived here all my life, I can attest to the challenges we face, particularly the high prices in housing and other amenities like Gyms but not food atleast. Our small economy has allowed a few individuals with substantial wealth to distort the real estate market, making housing unaffordable for many, that's why the quality of Airbnb is really not up to standard compared to Nairobi. However, we are resilient and striving to improve, and I am confident that we will see better days soon..

I'm from Nairobi and I think Uganda is really underrated. Kenya provides the best for the most moneyed but Uganda has good quality for majority, that includes the cost of renting. An AirBnB costing $40 In Uganda is much better than what you get in Kenya at the price. Even the showers here are dangerous compared to those quality and modern ones in Uganda. Let's not talk about food. Uganda has quality food regardless of where you look for it, whether you are rich or poor.

What I don’t understand with African Americans visiting African countries is this; why do they always want to compare African countries? Why not just enjoy your experience in each country and leave it at that. I don’t hear of those comparisons when they visit European countries or Asian countries. I think that your comparison’s simply pity one country against another. I think that your vlogs would be more appealing to a bigger audience if you simply shared you experiences from the countries you visit.

I do both, I have plenty of videos where I don't compare countries. These comparison videos can be very informative to people in the diaspora who have never been to the continent. The majority of us do not have the privilege of traveling for months on end to see many African countries up close. These videos provide a fast way to see which countries do which things better or worse. Then someone can make plans based om that information.

Like recently on social media I saw a white guy say the word but it didn't cross my mind until an African American pointed it out. It is the same for most Kenyans and how we perceive the word. With the availability of various social media platforms, it has brought to light the history of the word and now we better understand the weight the word bears.
