Ati one bedroom 70k, in this shit hole. someone once told me, in Africa, it is a million dollar house in the middle of a one dollar road. The private sector is building going up, but the corrupt, lazy useless government does not build the ground. Kenya lacks sewer systems, drainages and their maintenance, roads and sidewalks, pedestrian safety crossings, planting trees and grass for beautification of streets. You end up with kilimani situation, buildings in the middle of a shitty place.

I refuse. There are cities that have even higher rise slums - google any city in China. But they are organised. And they have trees, trees and trees.

There is nowhere to go but up, unless you're willing to tell people to stop giving birth or stop the rural to urban migration. It's either up or having a suburban sprawls which are way worse when it comes to handling crime. It all falls down to how we construct our buildings look at paris. Its filled with this kind of high rises but they where properly planned especially the facade and the whole "i need a wall around me" those are what make our buildings look shitty. We barely look past i need a house, a house is not four walls and a mabati up top look at how we build our schools and look at the schools built during the colonial period . You can easily compare Pipeline and Eastleigh to Seol, Tokyo and all the new cities in china. The biggest difference is how they look at the bigger picture and they try and build infrastructure that blends into the surrounding. Look at the affordable housing there building a very good opportunity in rectifying this whole mess but they will also waste that opportunity and build this lackluster brutalistic expression we call our housing standard. There is a reason brutalism was the architectural approach of the Soviet union before they went to war, its cheap and not meant to house people for a long time. Go to some areas in russia you be surprised on how similar the buildings look in comparison with the ones we have in california and makongeni the difference is that we make a worse copy.

Nairobi used to be heaven on earth when I was growing up as a teenager in the 1970s. It was clean, orderly, quiet, serene, and beautiful. Fast-foward to the year 2024. It is a noisy, chaotic, dirty and overcrowded city. Matatus, boda bodas, hawkers and pedestrians compete for any available space. It is simply stressful to be in the CBD.

Heavy trucks involved in construction are the main problem.....when a heavy vehicles compromise the bitumen layers above, water seeps in through the cracks during the rain season causing the base and sub base layers to expand. When dry season arrives, the water evaporates and the subsequent shrinkage leaves voids inside the pavement....these voids morph into potholes... The only solution is to use reinforcement under the pavement...and also to provide good drainage....no amount of patching will solve the crisis....the traffic in Kilimani is growing...a long term solution like the one suggested above is required....the Chinese used the same technique during the construction of Makupa highway which lies on expansive coastal sand.
