That's cool that the traffic lights are put on the crossing! That's pretty rare in North America, and this is the only video I've found of an Australian example! 1:15 I've never seen a turn lane for buses only before, but I've seen the shoulder of a highway for buses only! 4:49 so there is a big space between two tracks!

Quite a few crossings in Melbourne have traffic lights on the actual crossing signals, practically if they're near traffic intersections. A lot of major roads in Melbourne also have dedicated bus turning lanes, so that buses don't have to wait behind cars during rush hour. The reason behind the massive space between the two tracks is because Keon Park station is located directly next to the crossing, and is an island platform station (meaning that the station's platform is located in the middle of the two tracks). Requiring both tracks to be slewed slightly in order to fit the station's platform in.

That is because Keon Park station has island platforms

I think this is my favourite crossing in Melbourne, great video! It has some great sounding hybrid bells!

The Victorian government have made a huge mistake in overlooking this level crossing as one of the 50 to be removed by 2022. How could it possibly have missed out? I imagine that most of this footage was taken on a relatively quiet day (ie weekend), and it still looks pretty busy and congested even at this time, so it must be a nightmare trying to get through there during peak periods.

Great video of this level crossing. Could you please film the crossings at Childs Road Epping and Station Street Lalor?

I will one day, but right now neither of those are prioities for me. I'll get there eventually!

This crossing is pretty massive! Though the title for 'The Biggest Level Crossing in Melbourne' belongs to High Street, Reservoir. From what I've counted, there's eleven crossing signals! Interestingly enough, both Springvale Road & Burke Road had three bells! (The latter also had a tram line in the median strip too)

Yep, High St is amazing. 6 sets of boom gates!

Coming to think of it, PROV's site has some old pictures of Melbourne level crossings in the 60's. I thought I would share some of them with you. I love these photos, as all the crossings are festooned with teardrop bells! It's hard to distinguish between now and then for some of them too, which is interesting. I think I've seen these before on Mike's railroad crossing forum.

Interestingly enough, some of those crossing signals are still operating after more than 50 years, some of which still have the original equipment (i.e. Gate Mechs, Lights, and in the case with Ivanhoe, the bell!) There's more on the PROV site too (like Preston, Williamstown, and Tooronga).

Bizarrely, the middle signal's Hybrid Bell on the South Morang side of the crossing has been replaced with a GS E-Bell, even though it doesn't do anything!
@maxstrainsfanssmash6875 жыл бұрын
I reckon they would've stolen the hybrid for another crossing with a broken bell which doesn't work.
@stuarthunt1015 жыл бұрын
I think it was replaced after a truck crashed into it recently. Don't know why though!

Still waiting for an announcement from the Andrews' Government to remove this level crossing, which now has to be probably the most dangerous and congested one in the entire Melbourne metro area of the ones yet to be removed. Yet I am hearing of plans to remove level crossings at Evans Road in Cranbourne and at Swanpool Avenue in Chelsea, both of these having very minimal traffic passing through them.
@gangstertopo6 жыл бұрын
That's because the Andrews government does not care about this side of Melbourne. Always that end of Melbourne getting privileges from them. Another that should be gone is Childs Road Epping. That gets quite congested too
@darrenmiles-morland80386 жыл бұрын
gangstertopo, the strange thing about that is that the Andrews' government prioritised for the fast track removal of the single tracked Camp Road level crossing in Campbellfield at the end of 2017. That level crossing was no more than about 5 kilometres from this one, and had far fewer trains passing through it at any one time because of its single track, meaning that the boom gates would have spent a lot less time being down.
@louithefly3 жыл бұрын
This crossing should stay, it’s not s big problem at all, you also should film the traffic light cycle from each end with a crossing activation
