Good video. This railway crossing received electronic boom barriers and flashing signals in 1965. The width of the road at the level crossing has not changed throughout this period. The original signals were: -2 x WRRS gate mechanisms -2 x McKenzie & Holland teardrop bells From an old photograph taken in 1987, on Weston Langford's historical railway website, you can see that the mast on the south side of the crossing had a teardrop bell, whereas the mast on the north side of the crossing had a hybrid bell. You could assume that the original teardrop bell on the north side of the crossing was replaced by a hybrid sometime in 1984-1987. I am not sure when the remaining teardrop bell on the south side was replaced. I found a photo taken in late 1998 showing the crossing. It still had its two WRRS gate mechanisms, and black white striped boom barriers. But the bells had been replaced with GSI Type 1's. In summary, the hybrid bells at this crossing were replaced in late 1998. The barriers and mechanisms were replaced with red white striped, and Safetran, in 2003, respectively. I believe this was one of the first crossings in metropolitan Melbourne to receive the GSI E bell. Back in 2005, as a young boy, I remember grandma and myself walking to the crossing to observe the boom gates operating, and passing trains. Many fond memories. This crossing has not changed much at all.

Victorian Rail Heritage I’ll be interested to see how long they last. They’ve been sounding scratchy for years.

Excellent video Stuart. I could be wrong but before this crossing had e-bells, I think it had McKenzie and Holland tear drop bells.

Robbie Wales yes it has McKenzie and holland teardrop bells

Does this make two Metro crossings with high-pitched Type 1s at it now? Because, to me, it doesn't sound like these have been adjusted. Though, in some ways, it kinda sounds like a General Signals Type 2 that was pitched up due to how the bells sound, though it's also possible the bells are now sick due to water getting in them (seeing as it appears to have rained recently there at the time of the video).

freebrickproductions These bells have been at this crossing for an extremely long time, and as far as I know they have always made that scratchy sound. I believe one of the previous operators of the suburban network installed these bells.

As I mentioned before, I think it was M>Train that installed them.

That’s a pretty cool crossing, at it uses unadjusted gs type 1 bells. I like the original tone, it’s much better than the adjusted ones.

It's a really nice crossing, if a bit unusual. They sound nice and fuzzy, just how they should be haha

I went past this crossing the other day. Unfortunately, the E-Bell on the Melbourne side of the crossing is almost completely dead and just makes a quiet "static" sound.

Damn, I'll need to check it out soon

I found out from a signal maintainer that the Type 1 E-Bells at this crossing were installed as a trial all the way back in November of 1998 and were the first in the country! I was told that Clarke Street, Northcote and Gaffney Street, Pascoe Vale received Safetran Type 1's as a trial between January and March of 1999 as well. Also, according to the maintainer, Metro and V/Line have become aware of Mike's Railroad Crossing Forum as well as various crossing related KZbin channels and social media groups! So I guess we should be careful what we say lol!

Hey guys, why is the Second light of the crossing broke while it's flashing in 1 LED Light?
@emdB677 жыл бұрын
I must say I'm impressed (and surprised) how many drivers actually waited for the booms to fully open before entering the crossing. Have the police been conducting a blitz in the area perhaps? :)

One of the gateless signals seem to be a replacement for an older one likely knocked down in a traffic accident. Here's the old one: www.vicrailstations.com/Wodonga/Kensington/Kensington4.jpg

TrickyMario7654 how come there is e bells when m train was running the system well that means that e bells have been out for a long time and why does the type 2 e bells on this crossing and the ones on park street moonee ponds make a different sound to the other new type 2 e bells?
@stuarthunt1017 жыл бұрын
So it is. You can't really tell, but it looks like it might've had a Mckenzie & Holland or Westinghouse base

@emdB677 жыл бұрын
I''ve not seen one out before either. Rare to see even ordinary globes out, although I have seen this. The LED not working seems more likely to be a wiring problem than the unit itself.
