Th SS had a very musical tone especially in the upper mig tuning.

All sounded great but the black iron snare sounded especially good. Nice job! And good work with the tuning!

I own two 6.5" deep snares, and I find it can be a bit of a challenge to get them tuned such that there isn't too much ringing or tubbiness, so I tend to prefer shallower snares as a result. That said, I really liked all three Keps. I thought the black iron and brass were quite similar, with the brass being slightly darker and having somewhat beefier rimshots. The stainless had a thinner rimshot sound, as well as being higher pitched, but it was still quite good. The Black Beauty was too ringy for my taste, along with sounding a little thinner than the stainless. While it had a good sound, even if the ringing were more subdued I'd still like it the least. I've played BBs that sounded heavenly too (although they were 5" models), so I'm sure I'd like the BB more at a different (higher) tuning.

What happens with the black iron that seems to be better than the others? Very nice tone.

Hm. Seems like the steel records best from this video. Which felt best to you in the room with your ears? Cheers!

Steel definitely jumped out to me in the room - though the black iron at the medium tuning I loved as well. Steel just had kind of an extra something at both tunings.

Hey, what crash are you using in this video? It sounds great!

That would be a Meinl Byzance 19" Traditional Medium Thin crash. Thanks for watching!

@@ColeParamore lol! I have one of those and use it often. No wonder I thought it sounded great! I am planning to get a Keplinger soon and this video definitely helped. Likely going to get a stainless steel version. Is there a description somewhere that explains what the difference between black iron and stainless is? Is it simply steel and stainless steel? Thanks for any help.

@@stephenplaysthedrums9440 Good question. My understanding has been that yes, the black iron is essentially just thick steel. So steel vs. stainless I think is correct.
