I love this film with beautiful settings and very attractive actors and actresses. I watched black and white movies from the age of 15 in the late 70s, when I lived in Russia and studied Fine art in Art School. Still love them.

The script made a point of calling the black man "boy". This film was made five years before Jesse Owens' stunning performance at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.

McCrea was so popular and good looking, but is acting is less that stellar. And that goes for every movie he’s in. He always seemed to play idealistic, naive, and immature men.

If you want to see American movies deal with the ultimate taboo subject in America - class and wealth disparity - then one must see the movies made between 1931-1936, during the depths of the Great Depression. This one's an example. By the time we got to the late 1930s, we went back to pretending we lived in a meritocracy and all the money was earned.
