It really is amazing they managed to do that within 3 weeks but tbh it should of been done before the game was launched. I just felt like they were rushed to launch this game which would explain the massive issues and poor performance right off the bat. I mean, to be fair it is early access and all and early access games ALWAYS have problems but I feel like the game was just pushed out way too soon. I wouldn't be surprised if it was due to the higher ups just wanting to make money as fast as possible which is why it was released in such a state.

This patch is nuts. I think there's still some more optimisations available as people seem to have similar performance with 3060s to 4090s. The bug squashing is incredible. Wonder if the mods still work..... Also, FPS is one thing but the physics tick rate consistency has improved too.

I think them getting some of the physics calculations reigned in helped massively with general playability. I'd have aero just randomly error out and crash my craft, lots of the physics bugs would start small then hit a million and decimate the craft like it was logarithmic. Bugs spiraling into other bugs. Reign in the source bug, glitchy physics, and you rarely encounter the other ones that occured at high physics

@@LineOfThy "Always" is a large word that should not be used lightly. You know, there was a time when games shipped in a complete state. No "on disk day one DLC" crap either. The convenience of online patches has ended that glorious era and you'll now spend money for half-complete games, that label themselves "early access", so people don't expect much, even though they paid full price. And it does make a difference to people like me, that refuse to play by these silly rules: Specifically, itmeans that publishers are incentivized to nickel-and-dime their customers with bad, overpriced products and in the worst case, you end up with shovelware that is released in a poor state and then never improved, cause the publisher already made its money. Dev gets closed down or rebranded, rinse and repeat with a gaggle of gullible idiots, that can't wait to spend money and fall for this trap over and over. Best case scenario is that you pay full money for half a game and then wait forever for it to be completed. For shits and giggles: Scam Citizen is making more money by the promise of being finished eventually than it would by being released for real. The game has been available for 10+ years and is aiming to release before *2027.* This is the kind of shit that you get when people become willing pay-piggies for incompetent or predatory companies. Early Access is not a get-out-of-jail-free card for shitty business practices and selling a product for full retail price entitles customers to actually receive that which they paid for. You're free to think differently and to hand out your money to a dev that makes something you want and take the risk of it going badly. You're free to do that. But so am I to say: "This is not okay".

Just in case you might want it, you can actually record without loosing frames to it. Instead of using an on-device screen capturer like OBS, you can use an external capture card which goes between your pc and monitor. That way, you can get every single bit of performance out of your computer.

The fact this update came out in the scale and quality it did reassures my feelings that this game will be drastically improved in coming months. I had a massive interstellar ship with lander, probes and a micro jet that made it practically unplayable. Maybe 5 or 10 fps pre patch and 25 after patch. I loaded into a flight after patch and although the first thing that happened was the procedural wing broke, reloading fixed it and I instantly noticed butter smooth frames and far less fps loss from many jets. Drops still happen similar to this video but I will note I have a somewhat beefier computer so most will not have performance like this however overall improvements were significant.

It's great to see it coming along and that the dev team are capable of dishing out a boat load of fixes... But it's important to remember, for those who don't have KSP2 yet, the state with which the publisher allowed the game to be released in & the price tag they're asking for Early Access. KSP2 will have a long way to go before its worth its price tag imho. For those still on the fence, KSP1 with mods is still the full-featured experience if you're looking into giving Kerbal games a try. Don't dump nearly $60 on a Beta if you can help it lol.

I absolutely expected it to run MUCH smoother than KSP1 did after its last patch. I wonder how they expect to improve performance THAT much that colonization and mega structures actually work in the future. Early access is usually not a good idea for noobs. Maybe if this was a first title and there was nothing comparable. Then it make sense to introduce casuals since at that point everyone is a casual with potential to be a dedicated fan. Ksp2 isn’t that right now. Casuals who want to “get a glimpse of the vision” can play modded ksp1. Early access of this kind is more so for hardcore fans who want to experience every last drop from as early a dev build as they can get their hands on.

I was pretty worried about the games future considering, well, everything, but the sheer size of this patch has calmed my worries quite a bit. Nearly 2 GB in size and so many fixes it's almost unreasonable to read through them, this is very promising. The performance is still very much an issue in my eyes, but I'm hopeful the next few patches should lower the system requirements to more reasonable levels. And as a QOL feature I'd move the pause and unpause notification to the corner of the screen, and remove the yellow box around it, it feels a bit too invasive at the moment.

KSB 2 runs still runs like runs like a sack of nuts. Planets still have too much geometry calls. I get still 4 fps or something, when I'm in the sky and look at Kerbin... Yes, my specs are bad for this game (Vega 64, 6950X), but this game use still DX 11 and uses felt 1 core.

Alright. Welp. I said I cared more about the performance on my 1060 6GB than the lack of features so I'm taking the plunge. Let's see how the game runs on all low settings.

Report back when you get a chance, I'm interested to know what kind of gpu and cpu usage you get. Also, the terrain renderer is a big part of the frame chug. So try looking up when launching to see how that impacts your frames.
@ArtForSwans
@ArtForSwans Жыл бұрын
@@rainbowkrampus I didn't get a chance to check usage but on my Ryzen 2600, GTX 1060 6GB, and 3400 MHz DDR4, all lowest settings with environment prop (terrain scatter) on but set to Low, the game runs at around 14-17 during launch (which is ever so slightly better than the 13-15 I was getting before) up to 30-40 FPS in space and back down to around 15 when around the Mun or Minmus. Looking away from the terrain does indeed give me more frames, up to 40 fps, so I think they just need to optimize the terrain system now. However, the VAB is a near constant 60 fps, and certain parts of the UI are now WAY more performant, including the parts manager. So the game is noticeably improving.
@rainbowkrampus
@rainbowkrampus Жыл бұрын
@@ArtForSwans Nice, at least we have some uniformity of behavior across systems. Though people are talking about how they might be scrapping the current terrain renderer entirely. So I suspect that this will continue to be an issue for a good while. Why put resources into fixing something you're just going to replace? Hopefully we get a bit more optimization though.

I'm rather curious as to what bureaucratic quagmire resulted in the initial KSP2 release being what it was prior, compared to after this patch, but in the end I suppose it doesn't matter. Alls well that ends well, though admittedly the journey is far from over. (And, to be frank, I've only ever had one job that was largely free of office drama - and that was because it consisted of a minuscule team of about a dozen individuals, doing relatively simple skilled labor. KSP2 - and even KSP1 - is quite a bit more complicated that that.)

I am really glad to see how much work the devs have put into improving the game! However considering that I’m barely above minimum specs, I think the game is still unplayable for me. Playable framerates for me are minimum 25-30 fps. I will wait patiently for future optimizations before buying again.

Small tipp, cause you said, you can't record without obs. Actually if you use an hdmi-splitter on your graphics output, you could use another pc or laptop with a capture-card to record on a different machine, or you could use an external recorder like atomos or similar and record your graphics output on it. you could also use converters for the signal, if you output via displayport normally, you can use a simple dp to hdmi converter cable. This way you can always use all your ressources for the games and record your videos on obs on another system. ;)

I'm hoping the complete rewrite of the terrain system, and more optimizations in future patches/updates will bring it there, KSP has always been a slow game for me though, even the first one, but that may be because I tend to push it quite a bit :P But yeah the frames increase has certainly been nice, but more would be even nicer.

It's the terrain renderer. If you look up, i.e. you only see your craft and the skybox, frames are much higher. They need to fix the renderer. But my understanding is they might replace it entirely, so I'm not sure fixing what they've got now it's much of a priority for them.

Sadly I believe that the performance now is still unacceptable. From the looks of it the crafts that you attempted to fly where nowhere near outrageously complex. It’s nice to see it move in the right direction. I am still very concerned about stability though (kraken attacks). Some seem to be addressed but overall it feels more like applying bandaids rather than making significant improvements. We’ll see. I’m staying hopeful
