This game could benefit from usable survey markers. Even something as simple as placeable flagpoles could help in planning out routes.

The developers should really play satisfactory and work out some of these mechanics for track laying and usability. Seeing the angle of the snapped to piece of track or bedding to the new one would also help to know where you are going when the transitions between pieces aren't smoothed out. there are a lot of suggestions to make at that point :) hopefully this will get enough funds to become a full product one day.

I haven't played this (yet) but one tip from using other road laying games that don't use splines or surveyor's marks, but depends on laying track by sight; it's easier (smoother transitions) to run from the curve into the straight or switch rather than going from the switch or straight into the curve. Maybe the developer will come up with a way to plan/mark out the intended track - the most valuable employees in a railroad company are the surveyors. It would be a good addition if you could load up the trees you cut down to sell at the lumber mill.

Thanks for showing the track laying/route planning, it's nice to see the different approaches people take. I haven't moved past the Freight House/Lumber Mill, Logging camp areas yet, I'm still fine tuning and earning money for the expansion to the smelter, iron and coal mines.

I'm been playing the game for a while now, this is my second attempt at the game and so far I've only built to Logging Camp and the Sawmill though I'm currently in the process rebuilding my line between the two as my initial planning didn't take into account that the log camp has more than just a log loader.

I’m about in the same spot. I spent a few hours yesterday evening making a 5% slope down the side of the hill and have laid track, but haven’t tested it yet. Hopefully the train can make it back up the hill!

Just an idea! Create wooden stick with adjustable paint colors on the top so you can place them in the ground while scouting and planning your track! Something that I’ve been messing around with when you connect a track to an existing line and you need to throw a switch in there while you’re in the track wing menu click G click on track click on the switch you want to lay out and the switch will appear at the end of the track that you’re laying and then you can leave the switch in line makes it a little easier

If you mean like a push pull operation Ive had horrible results. It's probably a bug they are working on but for some reason any time me and my friends try having a loco unmanned and in tow with cars between them it just results in a nightmare. Between uncoupling itself and throwing other cars off it just hasn't worked out for me personally. But it's not something im crazy worried about because i like the idea of having to run around the train if needed.

Have you been able to get the dirt groundwork to auto-curve? If so, is there a secret? I tried, with no luck. I can get the track to curve, but not the ground. Sneaky thought…. Lay a curved track on the ground, then lay in groundwork above it, using it as a pattern. Stop the road bed just before the end of the track, then delete the track. Rinse and repeat..
