If you are a gamer and love gaming gear, 2024 is a great year for us! Gaming mice have been pushing the weight limits with lighter and lighter mice as well as faster-and-faster DPI polling. It wasn’t long ago that gaming mice capped out at a 1000 Hz polling, but today, there are several options that push the limits to 4 and 8K Hz polling. Initially, I was going to review the Asus ROG Keris II Ace and the Razer Viper V3 Pro as individual reviews, but the more I used each mouse, I realized my community needs a gut check on hyper-fast polling rates. Today, we are going to take a delve into the topic of 4 and 8K polling and does it really make a difference? I think you’ll be surprised by my conclusions.

CORRECTED: This is a corrected version of an earlier video where I mistakenly stated Razer's Viper V3 Pro cable is proprietary. It is not proprietary and Razer's Viper V3 Pro cable is manufactured to the USB-IF standard. Shout out to Razer for pointing this out! 👍

I have gone through about 20 mice in the last year and a half trying to find what is "best". I've come to the conclusion that shape is king above all else. I've used 2k/4k/8k, I dunno, I just don't notice a difference. Is it because I'm 40 years old? Maybe. Right now I have narrowed it down between the wired Deathadder V3 Pro and the Keris II Ace. Time will tell. Thanks for the video. I really appreciate how calm, cool, and collected you are in your content. A nice contrast from others in this hobby.

@refragged 40! Wow, you are like a spring chicken relative to my aging gaming reflexes! 😄 The underlying tech is legit in that higher polling rates really do tax the CPU, but I wholeheartedly agree with you that its almost impossible to tell the diffeces between 2, 4 and 8K polling. I just received my Deathadder V3 Pro and going to give it a try next week to compare it to the Keris II Ace. Definitely becoming a fan of ergonomic gaming mice, for sure. I should have my video out in a couple weeks. Thanks for your kind comments and appreciate you engaging in my content! 👍

I used a SL for quite a while but really liked how the Glorious D fit my hand... I did have to charge it more often but it was ok... however it died after about 6 months. As I had given my SL to one of my sons when his died I just got a SL2 and been super happy. Like you my reflexes aren't what they were playing Quake 2 Rocket Arena anymore so 2k polling is definitely more than enough for my needs! Great video, was very interested to see if there was a difference!

@MarbsMusic The SuperLight2 is a definite classic and the SuperLight series has been my go to mouse for years. After trying the Asus ROG Keris II Ace ergonomic mouse, its hard to go back the the SL2. 2K is plenty fast enough and 8K is completely unneccesary. Always appreciate the engagement!

A few things to add to your review. 1. 4k/8k eating 20% of your CPU - true, you can check this by opening task manager and moving your mouse while on 8k hz and see the CPU spike up. However, if you test it at the same time you will notice that on 1k hz it still eats up to 10-15% CPU instead of 20% so it's not like you throw away 20% of you CPU when running 8k, you "invest" roughly 5-10% more of you CPU into what your system already eats up. Running a 7800x3d and this is what I notice on my end (tested about 7-8 mice from thorn/maya/keris2/viperv3pro/GPX2/GPX1/RXE1PROmax/op18k) 2. Difference between 1k-4k-8k -> playing COD isn't a good way of trying to notice these things as the pacing of the game is too chaotic and fast. In "slower" type games such as CS2/Valorant, there is a clear difference in smoothness, not to mention in situations when you need to spray down your enemy (e.g try to record you spraying on 1/4/8k and watch it in slow motion. The ability of the mouse sending 4000 or 8000 positions per second to the PC/CPU greatly improves the controllability of your spray pattern compared to 1k; ofc it helps you even more so if running 360hz or 540hz.) Otherwise cool vid, just heads up.. your eyes moving when speaking from (your) right to left feels like you're reading off a prompter, not that is a bad thing, it's just a tell.

@iuliani1663 Great feedback and I'll take a look at your recommendations. Like you, I'm running a highend AMD CPU, so we may never see the impact on CPU usage since we've got plenty of headroom. Wonder what the CPU usage would be on an older CPU? I'll try out your recommendations. Appreciate the input and feedback! 👍

@@mynusten I'm not sure about a lower CPU model, and I didn't bother testing on my 13900k before selling it. I think it might be tied to IPCs/Frequency. Also I spotted something odd, the 4k hz setup on all of my mice indeed goes up to 3800-4000hz while the 8k setup goes only up to 2800-3200hz for some reason. I tested 800 dpi all the way to 9600 or so, same result on all mice; not sure if it's a hw limitation or none of 'em can reach 5000-6000 or more hz at all regularly. Oh an yes, I did test this on a solo usb hub, it didn't share power with any other device, plus with the bitsum high performance mode.

@@iuliani1663 I'm going to have to do some research on the best way to test these HyperPolling mice. You raise some very good comments and I wonder if there is software that allows testers to isolate PC usage by hardware device? Interesting on the 8K polling. Were you using a webased app or an app on your desktop? As for USB, I always plug the devices into my I/O panel on the back of my gaming rig. Keep sharing your feedback as I want to get better at testing these mice. Currently testing the Glorious Model D2, but it caps out at 1,000 Hz.

@@mynusten I plug them straight into my mb as well. I used a web based browser, multiple of them. @DaBoxGhost84 the Logitech G Pro X SuperLight2 has a much lower profile where the Viper V3 Pro has that bulge in the back that elevates your hand and wrist. For symetrical mice, I'm still partial to the GPX2, for sure. The interesting part about all these gaming mice is their underlying tech is pretty much rock solid across the board. I have a question. The days before yesterday i got Keris II Ace and it felt great. But today i woke up with pain in my fingers. I spend a lot of time using mice per day, so it is getting worse and worse and i think its cause of its shape. The little finger and the one next to it are hurting cause the curve next to the right button is going outside instead of inside making the mouse broader. Since i use palm grip it gives more pressure to those fingers. The question is .. anyone with palm grip having similar problems? And will i ever be able to adapt to it or no? Im over 40 btw.

@DarkspaceII I hear you on the daily mouse usage. I'm on my computer at least 14 hours per day. Reading your response, I'd recommend visiting an ocupational therapist as you may have medical issues related to your hand that they could address.
