If you want to try different "fair" food, I'd recommend going to Castlefest in August. It's a big fantasy fair on castle grounds with lots of delicious "medieval" food, lovely music and great vibes.

The kaneelstok is supposed to be soft like the zuurstok you had. A Zuurstok is traditionally hard candy, but they can be soft as well. I don't buy kabeelstokken anymore, give me one and it's gone in 2 minutes. I eat it like Bugs Bunny eats a carrot. A lot of people get Nougat from the fair candy stall.

Also at @8:11 Potato tornado: the best you can taste them is in Beverwijk (Big Bazaar a.k.a. Black Market). I like the Garlic Parsley Teriyaki flavor! Crispy inside is easy to archieve (I also make them at home): Cut the potato in spiral movement then put it on a stick and stretch them like the tornado shape. Then put them in hot boil of water en let them in for 2-4 minutes. Then pré fry in medium high temp. vegetable oil then on high heat temp. vegetable oil! Then season the Potato Tornado. Sorry about my bad English, I am from The Netherlands. ☺ You also can buy the famous special tool 😎 In The Netherlands we called: "Aardappel Twister Spiraal Snijder"

The fair close to my home has the BEST nuts ever. It's a stall that sells all sorts of candied and roasted nuts, as well as popcorn. The smell when you walk by is AMAZING and they've won a few awards. I believe the candy coating has a hint of cinnamon too. So good!

They are still a very big thing throughout The Netherlands. Purmerend (where I live) used to have 2 each year, but they reduced them to 1 around 2006 or 2007, but in 2021 or 2022 they went back to 2 a year. And then, in some neighbourhoods in some cities there can be much smaller neighbourhood forms of kermis with a smaller amount of rides and foodstands.

The Ferris Wheel got fresh out of the Mondial factory in Heerenveen, Friesland. Also, the best Oliebollen are sold at the Tilburger fair by Richard Voets. Also, you should Visit the BIG ride manufacturers of the Netherlands: KMG in Neede, VeKoMa in Vlodrop, Limburg (VeKoMa makes rollercoasters for Six Flags and Disney), Lamberink Wheels in Groningen, Mondial Rides in Heerenveen. They sell to big parks and fair showman.

@@Dutch3DMaster Lol Yeah. Italy, Schwitserland and The Netherlands are major players in the Amusement ride industry. Vekoma has build the new Guardians of the Galaxy coaster for Disney's EPCOT for around $500.000.000. which to this date is the most expensive rollercoaster ever build. Build by the Dutch. Also a other Dutch company: Abuco, has produced some of the larger ferris wheels in the world. They did work for London Eye, Dubai Wheel, Singapore wheel, A wheel in New York. So yeah, the Dutch sure know how to build these kind of things I guess.

Thanks for this new video. Being half Spanish (mother from Spain, father from the Netherlands) and having family in and around Barcelona I have been there every year ever since my childhood (50 years ago). The kaneelstok is just ment to bite into, get little chunks and enjoy. Def cinnamon challenge approved. I like it more than the pink zuurstok. Also typical kermis food to me is nogablokken / nougat. And ofc cotton candy and oliebol. I don't typical eat loempia at the fair. That is more something when you go for grocery shopping at the markt.

I think the wine- and dropballen are the typical kermis sweets you need to get. Give it a few licks and put it away in the plastic. Traditional zuurstokken are usually hard, that when you suck at it for a while, you can sharpen it in to a lethal instrument.

Events seem to become more loud these days. 2 weeks ago I was at Heroes Dutch Comic Con (I had an early bird ticket because I wanted to see David Tennant, but he had to cancel due to a change in schedule) and I held out for just a few hours. Everywhere there was so much noise coming from certain stands so next time I'll probably wear ear plugs to dull out the noise. And only if there is a guest of my interest. The fall edition is the same weekend as Vivarium (an aquarium/terrarium fair at Autotron) and I've got my ticket for Vivarium sorted. That event will also be packed with people, but it's quite a lot quieter because there are a lot of animals, mostly fish and shrimp, to be concerned about in terms of well being. When I went there last year, I held out for a whole day.
@Dutch3DMaster
@Dutch3DMaster 6 ай бұрын
I had the same thing with the recent kermis in my city. Normally I would hear the screams from one of the high altitude rides (Booster and those kinds of things) when the cage with the passengers came out above the treeline (I could see the ride hit it's highest point before the trees got higher :P ). But now I could hear the low tones of the music almost every day. In the past, I went to the IBC multiple times in the Amsterdam Rai. And while there is no loud music, there is absolutely no sound dampening material in the ceiling space, which I still think is kind of odd for a broadcast-oriented conference. That event always exhausted me due to all the talking people you basically heard the whole event hall through. Hundreds or maybe thousands at a time...
@TheRealTMar
@TheRealTMar 6 ай бұрын
@@Dutch3DMaster sound should be dampened at every large indoor fair or event. And proper air circulation or air conditioning! At Vivarium that is especially vital since they want to keep the halls at around 25 degrees C because of the tropical animals. A lot of them are not in heated aquariums or terrariums but sold in cups or bags. There are strict regulations for that btw, fish are supposed to be bagged the same morning to reduce the time in that uncomfortable circumstance as much as possible. Unsold fish go back to their tanks at the wholesaler/retailer.

I have no idea why a zuurstok is called that, because it is one of the sweetest things i know. I never liked the cinnamon ones, but I do like the pink ones (which is supposed to be cherry flavor, but it's just a very sweet nondescript fruit flavor) and of course the dropstok. Zuurstokken are about the only reason I still go to a kermis, when I was a kid I used to love the bumper cars, though.

The lumpia doesn't look like anything I've ever had. Vietnamese instead of Indo lumpia? Still jealous you can get them on an easy, regular basis. Greetings from Michigan.

Hold on, loempia comes in different main flavours Indonesian and Vietnamese. You grabbed the Vietnamese, not the most common one: Indonesian, big, big difference. I really dislike the Vietnamese ones, but can't stay away from the Indonesian ones. Oh, and they are rather large, nice for a quick lunch.

By now the Vietnamese is the most common, especially at it is an easy snack and not a whole meal.

Don't think, just ask them what they do after the kermis is gone, they will probably be happy to answer.

It's Stroop wafel (strohp wah-fuhl), not waffel! Waffel is used in "hou je waffel" (shut your gob). 😜😜😜
