Hi, Kermit, thank you for having Gerd and his wife over to Fantasy of Flight and telling us of his history with the Hoffman Constant Speed Propellers and thanks to Gerd for his overhauling your propellers for free. I didn't know about the manual remote adjustment ability of these props. God Bless and stay safe, and I hope to one day see the Weeks Solution take to the air again.

I didn't know you still had your Weeks Solution. Great to see it live. You pioneered the first high performance S2S type muscle biplane for competition that eventually included airshows. Similar to the 260 HP Christen Eagle I called the "Black Eagle" with a 3-blade Hoffmann propeller in 1979. Although your design had much greater performance. You could easily do a video on the Weeks Solution alone. Great history. The Pitts and your Weeks Solution transformed you from a Good pilot to a Great pilot.

Thanks for another great video. It was interesting and enjoyable. The gentleman from Europe you have with you is really great to listen to. Wonderful. Enjoyed hearing the talk on the days of racing aircraft. So interesting. You guys made em sing. Super good video. Looking forward to the next video. Thanks for everything Kermit. Great to see the old aerobatic vids incorporated into this one. Also good lessons about resilience with the reminders about the aftermath of Andrew and the recent effects that the pandemic had on your operations. It's good to see things back up and running and progress being made on aircraft that will continue the legacy you've established.

The Bf-108 was far ahead of its time. It won many international flight contests. In my area a man owned one and I saw it fly a few times. It flies just like a fighter. Just like the Me-109 ! In fact before any Me-109s were restored the 108 was used in many movies as a Me109 the flight characteristics are so similar. Great flying plane still.

Thanks for sharing. I met you once long long ago in Breckenridge Texas. Howard Pardue and friends had invited a number of you guys in for a few days. Must have been 1982 or 83 and I think you were flying the Week's Special. I just know that I watched everyone for hours and especially you doing vertical rolls ... Whatever you were flying sure would climb.

I can feel your heartbreak when you look at what's left of the Week's Solution; I'm sure there must have been times when you wish you could have taken it for spin. Did they catch the a..hole who stole the engine out of it? Anyway, it will be a happy day when she is restored, gleaming in the sun👍😍

This is the second native German speaker who I’ve heard pronouncing Junkers with the hard ‘J’, usually in Germany the letter J is pronounced as a Y, so as written, the name Junkers would be ordinarily be pronounced ‘Yoonkers’. Perhaps I’ve been wrong all these years! Another great video, it’s very satisfying to see how quickly the ‘108 is coming along. MT propellers are excellent too, I flew behind one in an Extra 300 a couple of times!
@NV..V
@NV..V 2 жыл бұрын
Native Germans (and German speakers) when speaking English, will often use the "jay" sound in Junkers (and other applicable words) but only when speaking English. In their native tongue they will use the "Y" pronunciation. A lesson I learned on Embassy duty in the 80s.

@@NV..V, thank you, I had a German girlfriend for a while and I learned a bit of German from her, it seems inconceivable to me that Germans would pronounce Junkers in any way other than ‘yoonkers’. I guess that when Germans pronounce it in the Anglicised way, they’re doing so out of politeness.

I have read that in the past, a solution was used to wash aircraft parts in, before overhaul or renovation. This solution would remove paint, soot and grease from aluminum without damaging the underlying metal. What was the name of this solution? Is it (or similar) available nowadays?

Yep, DNA evidence or prints sitting on some crime Database somewhere. This was a targeted crime, so probably someone in the Aviation industry, and/or someone who wanted Kermit's particular engine. Sounds like a case many people want to take up.

In Germany, people only learn and do what they have learned. Maybe a little bit related things or if things and processes change in the way, then there will be retraining, but as a rule they stay in their position. So if Mr. Muehlbauer only built propellers during his professional life, then he really only made propellers from wood, aluminum or plastic the whole time. He was never on the engines, the aircraft skin or in the cockpit.
