To answer the "do reviews affect box office" question, you have to look at what type of film we're talking about. Some films like Nativity and Let's Be Cops are aimed at families and people who don't pay attention to critics. Other films like The Babadook or Frances Ha are aimed at cinema literate people, who enjoy something less fluffy and conventionally enjoyable, and these people often pay attention to what critics say.

Too true! In fact Dr K has often made the point that a critic's real purpose is not to damn huge awful blockbusters but to shed light on hidden gems.

The first and last clips made me feel extremely sick. It's perfectly possible to do this sort of thing without making everyone vomit. Clunes looks completely embarrassed to be there. Kermode is completely correct in this one. It's simply cringeworthy.

Nativity 3 looks intolerably awful. It looks like the kind of thing POWs would be forced to watch in order to condition them.

I think some of the comments said by the critics went a little far. But what doesn't change is the fact that they thought the film was terrible. And that's where movie critics can come in quite handy. They can encourage you to see good movies while encouraging us to avoid the rubbish of bad ones. And Nativity 3 looks like a terrible film based on the clips provided in this vlog as well as the review. Even though there's a certain amount of amusement seeing Doc Martin getting kicked in the head by a donkey. I wish it had happened to him in one episode of that series.

It's a review proof film because it's a kids film and is the third in a series. Earplugs are pretty cheap when you have to take the kids to see it. I think other films without a built in fan-base are affected by a series of bad reviews.

Here's the problem with Nativity 3 and films like it. I get that it's a kids film, but when there are kids films that are up to the standard of just about everything PIXAR has done, which are not only great films but adults can enjoy them as well, why do they bother making films that are THIS cringeworthy? They could have at least tried to make it enjoyable for adults as well.

Film looks harmless enough, not my cup of tea. If you want to see a good film about a donkey, watch Au Hasard Balthazar.
