It's a tragedy that this will go on to make 100's of millions but a great movie like Edge of Tomorrow that is well written, perfectly paced, great acting and action and is laugh out loud funny at times has tanked. Movies like it will become less and less, and more mind numbingly bad action movies will continue to be the summer blockbusters.

I really tried to like the Transformers films, but ultimately it ends up some useless metallic jumble with big booms and explosions. I was brought up believing epic mech battles were amazing but the Transformers films killed it for me. Thanks, Mike.

Poor Bay, bringing a chainsaw when he needed to use a screwdriver again. *Note: I would have said he'd brought a hammer, but we're past that point that now. *Goes off to watch "The Rock". A film which seems like it was directed by a man clinging on to the last ounce if self awareness. Oh God, why did I say that? He'll remake it now won't he? The fine line of "popcorn fun", obliterated by vulgar excess.

Just a small note; the film DOES open tomorrow. That's the date being advertised (no previews) and that's when it starts showing. It's not like Bad Neighbours that had "previews" on the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th of May, then "opened" on the 9th.

Please can we have a reboot directed by Brad Bird or Neil Blomkamp. One could easily make a good Transformers movie; all you have to do is just use the comics as the main source, and focus on the Transformers, giving them decent characterization (again, easy, given the abundance of tech specs bios and other material). Also, you don't even have to make a TF movie an action movie. In fact you could for example make a small TF movie focused on, say, Nightbeat (the Autobot detective), and make it into a drama/mystery.

"carry on forever" Please Mark don't say that. I blame Spielberg more for these films than Bay, because Spielberg insisted he should direct and went after him. Being a fan of the very old TV show, Bay's Transformer films are like Schumacher's 'Batman and Robin'. Hopefully one day someone will come along and do a 'Batman Begins' because the transformers mythology pre-Bay/ Spielberg deserves it more than most I think.

Whenever folks bash on others for enjoying the cgi destruction porn that is Transformers (and I mean that the positive way; yes, there is a positive way), just remember Kermode liked (not "condoned", LIKED) all High School Musicals and all Twilights. 'Armegeddon' and 'The Rock' on DVD persuaded me never to watch a Michael Bay film again (and I appreciate that 'The Rock' had some good elements). How anyone could watch this kind of stuff and not feel empty to the point of resolving to lead a better life.....I do not know. There's no point to escapism if it just grinds your spirit down.

I agree with Brian. It was not bad at all. I like Bay's style. It's not for everyone - the quick cuts, frenzy explosions, ad film look, model like actresses and his camera angles looking up to the sky but I love all of that. If you like the previous transformers you will like this one. If you do not like the previous ones you will not like it. For all the ppl complaining abt these movies, why do u go to them? If someone did not like the first one, they should not have gone for any of the subsequent ones. Everyone knows exactly what they are going to get when one buys a ticket to see transformers movies. We have had three of these prior to age of extinction. It's making a ton of money so ppl are watching them and then some ppl complain. This movie has a A minus on cinemas score. Critics and general ppl always do not agree. To each his own.

Seriously? The soundtrack for this film was absolutely amazing. It didn't deserve to be in a Transformers movie because it was so well done. Steve Jablonsky should receive just as much credit as the CGI artists, let alone Micheal Bay. His work on this film is WAY too good, he's almost working too hard to make a beautiful soundtrack in a movie where beauty doesn't exist. Best part of the movie for sure.
