P120D/20E120 Crankcase Ventilation Hose Disconnected - Common B58 Issues

Had this code pop up on my m240i with the agency power intake (since discontinued.) Didnt throw a CEL, only a code, so you wouldn’t know if you didn’t check. I ended up reinstalling the intake much tighter the second time and cleared the code and it hasn’t immediately come back yet. Thanks for the video as always, glad it wasn’t just me.

Hey kern, got DME code 160504 engine ventilation system heating, actuation open circuit. Have an aftermarket intake/downpipes/chargepipes. Never had this code after the install of them when I first checked, but checked today and saw it appear. any solutions? not much info about this code online, and all my connections/plugs seem to be intact

is the connector fully seated? that usually comes up if it's unplugged or if the wiring gets damaged.

Hey I just got this code on my 2020 540i. I’ve had a Dinan intake on for about 4 months now and it’s been perfectly fine up until now. What can I do to fix this issue?

I flashed bm3 stage 2+ and immediately got code 160504 and a CEL, checked all the wiring and plugs, plus cleaned the vent hose connector and tested voltage on the connector and got 3.3v on positive and 1.7v on ground. Code was not there before the flash, but now when I flash back to stock, the code remains. Wondering if I should replace the vent hose, maybe the hose heater element has internal wiring faults 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@Hand3r261gos yes I took mine off, it’s a really easy job but the clips that connect the hose to the bottom of the intake are the hardest part to take off, my suggestion is to get a small screwdriver and push in the bottom tab FIRST and then do the top. Should pull out with a bit of force. Also I’m on e50 too and my old hose broke into 3 pieces when trying to take it off lol… it did make it easier though.

@@WiLDBWOY1 yes. I forgot to transfer the old O ring from the stock charge pipe to the VRSF. Once I did and cleared the code, it never came back.

The leak could be in a lot of different places. Even your oil cap being loose could cause that code.

so i been having the 20e120 code for a while now, its been popping on and off. i replaced the hose but still having the code pop up. i also cleaned the MAF sensor. it went away for a day or 2 then came back again then was turning off and on again. i cant seem to figure out the issue for it. i’m assuming its because i forgot to add the downpipe to turbo gasket when installing my downpipe, could that maybe the issue? my car is upgraded downpipe upgraded chargepipe and mhd stage 2

The Ross Racing kit has a silicon plug that seems to loosely seal this pipe. Does it need to be air tight?

it's under vacuum so it will suction shut when you drive

@@kern417 thank you , yes I just found a silicon cap in the Ross kit for capping the top of that oem hose. I think I’ll remove the hose and plug it down at the turbo intake pipe

Could p120d come from an air box that has a hole in it? Or isn’t sealed perfectly? My 230i was a salvage project I just ended up glueing the airbox together but it’s missing a one of those metal clamps but it closes flush. Also we replaced the hose connecting to the air cleaner box so I’m confused as to why we’re getting the code

Yes, but it will still throw a code. It doesn't cause any issues with driveability so the easiest way is to block the code in your tuner if it's possible.

I have had this code twice now. My engine is completely stock and my air box is stock too. I was running MHD stage 1, but tune is completely stock also. Is this hose difficult to replace? I might try that before throwing lots of money at the dealer. (My warranty is shot because they found the tuning code.)

@@kern417 just an update, got the part! Roughy around 61, including tax. However I’m having difficulty removing the old one from the bottom clips that’s on both sides. If I don’t figure it out today do you think it’ll be possible to do a removal video or send me a incite on how to?

Check out my last video and it shows you how to remove those connectors. They are difficult no matter what but you need to squeeze the ribbed areas in order to pull it off You can try using a pick tool around the perimeter to get it off if that doesn't work.

Could this cause a hiccup at idle? My b58 idles fine and every like 2 or 3 minutes the rpm will drop by 100 and come back up to normal.

I had this same code pop up a month or so after installing my intake, looking at the online Forums it seems like this is a common problem with a Aftermarket intake, there isn’t rlly any way you can’t prevent it, just drive less aggressive I would say, sometimes the rattle from the engine can mess with the sensor (may let the computer think there’s a leak somewhere, that’s why this code pops up) switching back on the OEM intake would just take the code away n won’t come back tho, harmful I don’t think so as long as ur hose isn’t legitimately cracked or off you should be good just monitor if you feel any difference in ur car!

Yes Because it goes in place of the pcv hose. Make sure there aren't any leaks at the connections

@@kern417 only iffy connection is the adapter from bms to the oem pcv pipe. I changed the oring to something thicker and hopefully it seals it better than the oem oring

It has 2 clips that need to be pushed in. The easiest way is to remove the whole lower intake pipe, then remove it
