I think that the Toyota did nothing is incorrect…do you have the source? There have been a few interviews with akio toyoda saying that they were involved in r&d and design on the chassis as well as rigorous quality testing on parts. Also If Toyota did nothing it would be illegal for bmw and Toyota to sell in Europe, they have laws that prohibit rebadged cars. So interested in where you got the info, the Supra was built from the bmw parts bin as well as the programming. At the end of the day we are just glad they are still making these cars! I still don’t understand the hate lol we got best of both worlds!

It almost looks as if you’re adding Freon to the turbo? Curious are you using refrigerant as a cooler?

I had just shy of 15k miles on my 2023 M340i when it developed a coolant leak. I took it to the dealership which diagnosed the water pump. The '23 model water pump has a plastic internal seal which failed on my car causing it to lose 2L of coolant in 60 miles. The dealership replaced it under warranty with a revised pump that uses a rubber internal seal.

Honestly it’s a testament to how far of the B-58 has come. I know for a fact that Toyotas engine testing is the most rigorous out of all the manufacturers. And as it Toyota fanboy, I’m totally happy that BMW hit the marks ! The b58 is a super engine and carry’s the Supra name in a honorable way

I am super confused. My understanding is that the xDrive system in the M340i is unable to send more than like 80% of its power to the rear wheels. Cna someone correct me if I am wrong in thinking this? Because I am super confused how there cna be 0nm of torque being sent to the front axle if this was the case.

Nice video! In Germany the 340i costs a bunch more than the 440i mostly due to the fact that Germans put a lot of value into practicality. For that reason I like the 4 series more with an aftermarket bumper. Cheaper and more sporty setup wider etc seems like a good deal to me

I recently returned from a trip from Kansas to Colorado. My R4 worked flawlessly. Depending on the terrain, it picked up cops running radar anywhere from over a mile away to 3 and even up to 5 miles away. It’s the best radar detector I’ve ever owned. I just wish it was 100% true stealth. But other than that it’s awesome. And you just can’t beat it for the price. Escort should be ashamed of their radar detectors in comparison. I’ve purchased my last Escort radar detector. That company is a joke. I bought my R4 at Best Buy for just over $300 on sale a while back. I also use R4 companion and it integrates perfectly with the R4. It’s well worth the $10 for the app on iOS. I have this mounted above my visor with a visor mount i purchased from eBay so it’s also well hidden in my Mazda. Using the R4 with R4 companion and Waze is a trifecta of awesome counter-measures. I can’t say enough good things about the R4. Great job Uniden. I highly recommend this detector.

The only thing I'd say is different about the Supra & z4 is the engine/transmission tuning. Having owned a supra & driven a Z4, the supra drives much more like a sports car & accelerates quicker with quicker shifts. The Z4 is a bit more luxury car feeling. The ONLY thing Toyota might've made or designed is the body panels, but then again, shipping all those panels from Japan to Germany for assembly could be quite expensive. No one's even sure of that. Who new Toyota would produce one of the best bmws ever made?
@ladin425Күн бұрын
we should be thankful that BMW and Toyota brought this car to production. It's truly an affordable sports car with remarkable performance! People would have been begging for a car like this in $45k price range. I'm on the facebook group and one question that pops up now and again is, supra or vette? First, I don't see how they are in the same price range. Second, two completely different cars! I would take supra over the vette any day!
@JeeperZJКүн бұрын
okay, stop.....it does not take "a couple simple mods" to get this platform into the 8s and 7s.....if you wanna get into that range you're looking at a well over 1000whp engine build whether its a factory b58 with internals, or a 3.2l built block, ps3 trans, suspension, beadlocks, drag tires, weight reduction, tuning and track time. If you wanna get into the 10s then yes, pretty easy, not the case when you're talking about 8s and 7s.

It’s a reason gen1 record built max effort 8.9 and gen2 g20s run 9.9 stock motor/turbos. It’s surely not the weight mod, Toyota indeed did tweak with the gen2 internals that’s irrefutable lol and blatantly evident imo.

@@toyor8888 yeah if you think this discussion is comparing gen 1 to gen 2 then you clearly don't understand what you're talking looking at. Nothing in this video is talking about gen 1. @@kern417 my initial comment didn’t insinuate a comparison, literally simply it’s a reason gen2 g20s can attain the gen1 built max effort record stock motor and trans and borderline 4k lbs. Yea that’s a stupid rumour that Toyota fan boys came up with to make themselves feel better. Strip the engine down it’s all bmw parts Toyota didn’t even make the mkiv engine lol

Toyota even said when they designed the shell for the car, they had to design it around the mounting points for the suspension that bmw put in place. If Toyota designed the chassis it would probably have double wishbones in the front so they could have a lower hood and make it look more like the ft-1 concept.

You are correct. The G29/J29 platform was engineered and developed by both Toyota and BMW using the Porsche Cayman and Boxster as their sports car benchmark. Once the development of the platform was completed, Toyota's Gazoo Racing department (led by Chief Engineer Tetsuya Tada) engineered their own chassis for the Supra using BMW hardware and CLAR platform architecture. Tetsuya Tada and Toyota have been involved in the engineering of the Supra since its inception: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWXMf6aAmKyHfKMsi=E8yDP5tYSd_4F7Dy

I used to be an MKV hater. I am not a MKIV or 2JZ fanboy, but I always liked Japanese cars. I still remember talking trash to my friends when the car released that Toyota blew it, especially because no manual transmission was available. Later, I heard the news about manuals being available for 2023, so I test drove an auto trans one after a friend made the suggestion, and I was instantly hooked, and immediately started looking for an MT. I finally got one about a year ago, and I absolutely love it. I am totally OK that it is a BMW underneath, it is a fantastic car in so many ways. I actually always liked BMWs as well, I had an E30 3-series, and before picking up the Supra I looked at E36/46/90 M3s, and F series cars as well. So to me, it's totally acceptable that it's a BMW platform. It's ok people still hate on the car, despite the mountain of evidence that it checks most of the boxes a mass produced sports car should.

It’s a shame the MKV is hated by purists but I’ll enjoy the car to myself. No regrets.
