We have had some emails and comments asking how our heating system is setup so this video will quickly explain how we combined our Kerr Highlander TW 2000 wood boiler to our oil fired hot water furnace and how it’s able to be safely connected to our generator in the event of a power outage.
To heat the garage, house and hot water we burn about 8 cords per year. Our house thermostat is always set to 20c or higher (Jenn loves a warm house), the garage thermostat is set to OFF because the heat coming off the wood boiler alone will keep the garage in excess of 20c as well, sometimes it’s so warm in the garage we have too keep the door open when we are out there! So there is absolutely no shortage of heat in either building. The wood boiler also heats our domestic hot water for showers, washing dishes and laundry.
This heating system saves us THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS YEARLY!!
